    Thanks for the video! This whack off brings me back to the start of my chainsaw addiction. The first chainsaw I bought was a toss up between the 359 and 361. I am glad I chose the 361, it’s been a great saw but in hind sight I should have bought a 372xp or 365 special. Oh well I have those saws now anyway…

    Look forward to the 60cc comparisons. Perhaps the Makita 6100 is just another strato saw already running ported numbers. Yeah its a pain to get the cat out of the can but it might round out the field. High reving and claimed power.

    Interesting results. I didn’t expect that 361 to do that good. I tried a 362 once and it didn’t feel like it was anything more than a heavy, exhaust modded 261.

    You could run the stihl longer bar and chain on the husqvarna 592xp with an adapter against the husky longer barn and chain .058 chain in a different piece of wood. Then calculate the difference of cut speed in percentage to adjust the stihl cut times to get a more fair comparison.

    If the oem's decide to use a catalytic muffler to meet emissions, (i hate cats in 2t mufflers) i wish they'd use the large, round free flowing honeycomb style that echo used in their strimmers in the early 2000's! Those didn't seem to retain nearly as much heat.
    My CS-590 also seems slightly more finicky to tune with the timing advanced.

    "The best" of any product means deferent things to every person. To you it appears it's speed only. In the chainsaw world, I know more wood cutters than chainsaw enthusiast and all they really are concerned about is reliability and weight. As long as it has enough power to cut the wood they generally cut, starts every time and they can use it for hours without their back killing them, they are happy. Any saw brand owner I've observed this.
    As to the difference in chain guage between these two saws, it definitely will make a difference. Why do you think Stihl has made the move to 050 guage chain with their new 04 light bars? Because they have found, supposedly, a 20% increase in cut speed over the 063. I haven't tested it as I don't own any saws with 063 but I know professional tree guys that are also saw enthusiast that say its noticeably faster than 063.

    • @novicelumberjack
      @novicelumberjack  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not quite right. I like torque, but with increased torque comes faster cut speeds. If speed was most important to me, I'd always be running my 365 Xtra Special race saw, but that saw overheats and is not suited to working. What you are seeing is the best version of what a saw can actually be and still run flawlessly for everyday use. Speed cuts is just a way to measure the improvements. That's all. If I were to modify a saw past it's point of reliability, that would be useless. And I have never met a single person that wouldn't prefer their saw to have more power while still maintaining the same, and in some cases, better reliability. Anything with a catalytic muffler falls into the category of having more reliability when modified than they do in stock form. Any saw you have...let's say a Stihl MS361...A person can be perfectly content with it, as it gets the job done. But if was the same saw, with more power...wouldn't you like it better?

    • @MrJeepfreak1972
      @MrJeepfreak1972 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was referring to actual cut speed not all out rpm.
      Of course most would go "wow"! that saw has more power than mine and thats where it ends for them. We saw enthusiast are a tiny fraction of the saw world. The rest want them to start, run and cut. At least in the area I live in.

    • @MrJeepfreak1972
      @MrJeepfreak1972 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was this person I'm referring to for most of my life. I had a reliable Echo saw that I eventually muffler modded and it was the only saw I had for many years and I was perfectly content until I was exposed to ported work saws by accident. Being the type of personality I am, I was and still am all over this hobby. I feel the need to modify everything else so why not saws too. Lol

    • @novicelumberjack
      @novicelumberjack  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on the two quads in question. The motor in my 250 was all stock, pipe only. My 400ex was built. So power-wise, it was quite close. In a long endurance race, the 400ex would come out on top because less rider fatigue. It is known.

      So I put it back together. Opened intake & exhaust, muffler mod. Lower Transfer blending/ opening. Advanced timing about 2-4 degrees. First run & tune with new chain , hits 15k, cuts around 10200k. It's nice 10lb saw that can pull a 20" bar in hard dry ash
