Tig Welding is a slow process BUT....if there's one kind of Welding that can do it all and I'm talking ANY KIND OF MATERIAL ON THE FACE OF PLANET EARTH TIG WELDING " WILL DO IT, GUARANTEE " !!
This is absolutely brilliant. Love this content. Been welding properly for around 3 years now and do a lot of automotive and stainless exhaust TIG and I've always come back to your content for pointers as it has been absolutely invaluable info. Definitely like this long format video as well . Big thumbs up!!
I’m always humbled and taken back to; “school” by you JODY! Extremely thankful for what you do for this community. 38 years ago when I was under the hood daily, it was all at my fingertips. Now retired and well into my 60’s the knowledge is somewhere in my head, but thankfully with your tutorials, it bring it back to my hands. Not as good as I once was…😉 Grateful to You, JODY! ⭐️⭐️🙏⭐️⭐️
Really nice review of lots of basic topics. I took a community college welding course and have done some welding but it's been a while and this is a great reminder of many things. I'll fire up the torch and try your recommended ideas for review. I've bought a few things from your store in the past with great results, too. Thank you so much.
Fantastic video.. Simple, Straight to the point.. and informative.. Just bought my 1st tig welder... nothing special.. Just a 225A AC DC machine, (Im ready for if i ever have to weld alloy in the future too)... a pack of 10 grey 1.6mm tungsten.. some 1.6mm ER70S filler rods, and a couple of disposable bottles of Pure Argon).... My friend does have a big refillable bottle that is nearly empty.. He says he will give me the bottle and a regulator, once he is done with it... So win win...
my tungsten grinder is a cheap harbor freight bench grinder (30$) with a 100 grit diamond coated steel disc (10$ on Amazon) mounted on the outside of one of the grinding wheels.
That's a great idea. Probably wouldn't be too hard to build a jig for the correct angles either. Everyone thinks they're gonna learn to tig when they get started but what they actually learn is grinding tungstens.
For a beginner, what welder would be better ? I’m looking at Everlast 210ext and prime welds 225. I’m mainly gonna be trying to weld thin riveted Jon boats (with time and practice). I just wanna get the best unit for that purpose thanks !
Getting frustrated with blow-through on my 19-gauge body panels. I have a cheap Amazon TIG welder without pedal amperage control or pulse (only a on/off switch at the torch), using 1/16" tungsten, 1/16" filler rod, gas at 15CFM (more than I should need) running only 15 amps (much less than I should be using - about 40) #6 cup, 3/8" stickout, nice tight seam on the panel, using a 1/8" copper backer, but I can't seem to avoid blowing a hole through on one side of the seam or the other before I have a chance to apply filler . Higher amperage only makes the problem worse. The only thing that seems to work (but not always) is if I start the arc well away from the seam , quickly draw it into the seam, then do a brisk rootpass motion over the seam. Eventually a puddle develops dead center on the seam, after which I can either stop or continue to rootpass forward along the seam. But penetration isn't compete.. If I try a rootpass at an amperage closer to the recommend 40A , the rootpass motion will produce immediate blow-through. What am I doing wrong? What's the secret to preventing blow-through on such thin steel? I'd love to see a video on preventing blow-though on body-panel TIG welds, especially if I have inexpensive equipment.
I know I need to practice a lot when your "extreme examples" looks like my normal attempts. lol Sometimes poverty is a good motivator. I can't afford to pay a welder to do every little thing on my project car. I appreciate these videos.
I thought I was a beginner, but I’m whatever one is before that. … I was watching a guy using a tig welder elsewhere and they said that the tig welder fuses the pieces without the welding rod (or that metal stick piece you keep touching on the weld as you work), so how does that additional element work with/for this welding process? Assuming I didn’t incorrectly repeat/interpret the other guy.
Hay everybody. I’ve never welded before, but I’d like learn for personal use only. What would you recommend for a good all around, economical machine, that i wouldn’t have to upgrade soon. Thank you.
I hope others weigh in here, but in my opinion, the primeweld tig225 is the best option. weldmongerstore.com/collections/tig-welding-machines/products/primeweld-tig225x-ac-dc-tig-welder-with-pulse
You might be trying to do too wide of a range, but heat control is all about practice. Thin metal is a lot less forgiving than thick metal, so you might think about doing passes on thin metal without filler for practice to really dial in the heat. You could set up an overlapping outside corner joint with 18ga for a fusion pass also. There's a lot of easy to see feedback in that setup.
Not sure if you give tips in comments ? A friend is looking for hard-facing in a rock crusher , using a buz-box , stick , the hard facing he is using is not lasting ? Thanks again
I dont have any experience hard facing rock crushers. but he can get information at welding forums like welding web or my forum at forum.weldingtipsandtricks.com/
It always looks so easy till you do everything he said and still can't weld. I'm personally better with aluminum then steel. But man I keep practicing over and over and over again. Sometimes it drives me insane.
Just do as he says, keep changing from steel to aluminum back and forth . After a bit you change your ways just from the sound change and automatically the manner you react . :)
A suggestion, I see you welding quite fast. Every tutorial TIG welding, the welder is going quite fast. As a beginner, if we could start off very slowly, to learn, speeding up would come naturally. Words from an absolute beginner....
Invaluable information shared freely. Jody is a national treasure.
I've been welding since 1980. It's always humbling to learn how to make the job easier. Thank You my friend.
9 years in the game and I still come back to your channel! Great work Jodi you are a legend
I started welding in 2017, learned from a Skills USA Instructor, and I still find myself here.
Knowing is not enough
Ive been welding for a medium sized shop for 20 years mig and stick. Recently bought my own tig machine and thank god for Jody lol. Thanks man.

The jazzy 10 is my go-to for carbon steel.. purchased from weldmonger of course.
Yep, ditto .
It's sad to say but I learned a lot more from Jody than I did in welding school
I've met people that said their class was just watching his videos going over it then welding all day

#1 Common Mistake:
Not watching all of Jody’s videos. The best free welding content on YT!
Always good to see these over again Jody . I can't even say how much I've learned over the years from you . Thanks as always Jody .

Great close-ups shots and tutorials
Great content as usual!
Hello my dear teacher.
Very nice to see you 😊
Dear teacher could you please make a video dedicated to 7018 rod porosity ?

Thank you for the tips! Great content!
All ways great information, Thank You! Have you ever reviewed the CK Welding gas saver set up? Wondering your thoughts, Merry Christmas!
Great info, thank you. The angled torch at 3.55 mins , do you have a link for that please.
Great Job Jody, thanks for sharing with us. Stay safe, Fred.
Amazing instructional videos on the welding trade! 😎👍

Do you have to switch out the tungsten when switching back and forth?
Another great video!
TIG-porn. Absolutely remarkable welding including closing off the ends circling back. Incredible!

My Biggest Problem With Tig Welding is learning to control heat with the foot pedal or a finger switch I hold it down or lift up to much any tips

How fast does it go away?
I have to say big tanks for this video
Thanks Jody
Great video
Beautiful welding 👍👍👍
What angle should the tungsten be
depends on application but generally a 30 deg is a versatile angle www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/tungsten-grind-angles.html
Wish me luck I just started tig and man is it pissing me off, but I'm determined cuz it's beautiful and shiny and I wanna become good at it 😭
Oxides take more heat than the parent material
All well and good if one owns an AC/DC welder
Parabéns pelo cometário

I have never understood breaking your tungsten. Just cut it. You're going to sharpen it anyway.
@JFirn86Q totally agree! Jody has help me in welding school and at the job.
