    I picked up a 2008 Gt500 a few months ago, only 7,500 miles on it with the usual mods, CAI, pulley, TB exhaust and lowered on 20” rims.
    I like the S197 styles as they are close to what the originals were, cheap cars with a bunch of power and other good parts added. Very raw and less complicated than the newer models.

  • @midnight347

    I agree 100% on these being better bang for the buck. I mean the 13-14 is cool but there is no way it's worth twice as much or even more than that more than a nice 07-09. I kinda prefer the 07-09 looks wise and it has a more old school less refined feel. Its like the perfect cross between old school muscle and modern muscle. I picked up my 07 for 16 grand last year 108k pretty clean tasteful mods. Has bolt on 4.10 gear, mgw, twin disc, lowered on 20 inch rovos on unknown springs tuned 550 rwhp. I put a 17 inch f14 drag pack on looks great on performance white (stripe delete) in gunmetal. I thought about a trinity but I am just gonna put couple more grand with it and go gen3r. The bang for the buck on this car is out of this world. I've noticed the average price on them have gone up across the board since I was looking couple years back.

      Yah I agree with this body style. I have a 07 427 edition convertable supersnake and iam not really a convertable guy but it looks awesome.Shelby American only built 44 convertable with the 427 package and it is 1 of 7 car's in torch red.

      I also am very lucky to have a 08 GT500 that I bought from David and Bob Tasca and signed by the Tasca family along with Carroll shelby signature. But normally I don't buy car's that have mods on them but Tasca had his dealership put just about Ford Racing mod that was available. So crazy history with my 500.Then also back in 2016 I bought my 10 900hp grabber blue supersnake. I figured I have the convertable supersnake so I wanted a coupe.Then lastly for my shelbys in my collection i wanted a shelby that I could drive everyday so I bought a 07 white shelby GT and i love the car and it's a mid 13 second car so it's a lot of fun and does handle a lot better than what I thought. So anyway tell me about your car.

      E ones with higher miles make me nervous

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @jonosterman2878 no man it's at 128k now and it has a gen3r been at this level since 122k and it was at 550 for years prior to that. The stock clutch and Balancer is the only issue w the 07. I switched to a 2013 lower damper theyre the same 08-14 only the 07 had the huge heavy balancer the 07 is damn near 22 lbs while the 08-14 one is just under 10 lbs. Huge difference. I also did the kinetic crank saver stud at the same time. It's pushing 740/733 to the tire on drag radials through 4.10 gears at like 19 psi. These things are stout and best of all if you window the block God forbid the iron blocks are easy to find and far far cheaper than aluminum. these cars are solid.

    The 07-09 GT500 is the best bang for the buck Mustang you can get. The stock, low mile examples will 100% be collectors. Plus, Mr. Shelby had a lot to do with this car. He was a huge part of Ford and what it is today. I've had some 2020 and 2021 Mustangs but they just don't have the feeling these do.

      This is true but due to the alt being near the manifolds on these and terminators that compounds the issue imo. I went with a nations on my 07 it changes it to a large Denso style vs the factory 6g which is junk. My car holds high 13 to low 14 volts all the time even when it's warm it's a 270 Amp alternator.

    I'm biased. Biased beyond biased but 07 09 gt500 are the ones that mean something, that brought it all back, have the old school vibe still. Don't get me wrong the 10 and up look "more aggressive" and i love them, but they lack that Mojo.
    The new ones are awesome AF and i seriously considered one untill i saw what dealers were asking. They have a very import vibe which is mean , a serious high reving engine what is mouth watering but have IMO no soul, and don't doing quite as good as the previous s197 variants.

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree I liked the straight like bruiser old school muscle car type look and feel of the 07-14 cars. The long stroke mod motors they had were very torque oriented compared to the modern coyote based stuff and they had alot more torque down low and thus more of an old school big block type of feel. That fits the gt500 given the original cars were big block cars. I don't think they should have made the new one into a track car made it more muscle car like the gt500 was supposed to be. Gt350 is for the curves.

    The 2007,2008 and a few 2009 had a bad design fly wheel that would warp with heat . They would all do it and Ford would put a 2010 flywheel and clutch in . $4K job when yours finally needs replacement. Not covered anymore by ford. I’m surprised you aren’t aware of that fact. It’s a major problem with those early Shelby GT 500. They all eventually mess up your drivetrain and fall once the heat does it job.

I am looking at getting my first GT 500.....and I have a chance to get a low mileage (12k) 2007 convertible....with modifications whatsoever..... which is the way I intend to keep it (The only mods I would want to do would be functional ones to fix engineering / design flaws) but I plan to keep bone stock, I will never race it or run it hard...keep it as a driveable collectible to enjoy.... Having said this, is there anything I should be afraid of? Is there anything that I should immediately replace from an engineering / design standpoint? Is the heat exchanger and cooling system sufficient for the way I plan t own and drive? Thanks so much for your time :-)

    The crank is an issue in ALL years regardless of balancer.
    Ford didn’t design the cutout and bolt fitment properly on the snouts.
    Also these shifters do not fix any grind issues.
    Grinds are synchro related. Has nothing to do with the shifter.
    The shifter does not help lockout issues either. I drank that coolaid as well and the MGW caused me more problems than the stock shifter did.
    Shifter will just make it feel tighter, it doesn’t fix any actual issues.

      Or just upgrade to a better alternator that can handle spinning little more. The 6g style itself is the issue. The nations and some others switch it to a large Denso style and seems to eliminate the issues.

    It is not a cobra! It is a shelby gt500. They were going to call it svt cobra but last minute changed it to shelby gt500 and got Carroll on board with using his name etc just before release. It is essentially a newer cobra but it is NOT called a cobra. That's a pet peeve lol.

    FALSE. Absolutely do not put oil separator. Oil doesn’t cause detonation. Lubricates roots supercharger. Change oil and filter every 3000 miles.

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is false the supercharger has its own oil it doesn't rely on oil from the engine. A catch can is a good idea.

    • @PMPerformance
      @PMPerformance 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you own one of these? If you ever actually drive it hard, you will see quickly that it will push oil out the pcv valves.
      Oil separators are a great idea unless you like oil going back into your intake stream.
