@@ToughSpecs yea but the iron motor is pretty badass. It can handle as much power if not more than the aluminum motors stock. It is heavier by 90 lbs but it is also much cheaper if you ever window your block and need to replace it. 07-09 does just fine with the motor that is in it.

@@anthonylaudano9751 a 96-98 cobra can be made fast easily. Upgraded rods and pistons and a nice turbo hello big boy power in a lighter car than this gt500. Those early bheads on those cars love boost theyre really too big too high flowing for an na 4.6 they are gutless cars down low but come alive up top and really come alive with a turbo on it. They dont make alot of good supercharger options for em other than the centrifical ones like they do for the terminators shelbys and coyote cars but with a turbo they can be mean af. Matter of fact for a long time (possibly even still not 100%) the quickest h pattern stick shift car was a 98 cobra and it had a built up version of the original engine in it making like 1500 wheel with a turbo setup and ran 7s. Dont know what you're smoking but that qualifies as fast in my book. Better starting place than the finicky ecu 94-95 cars. If you wanna go pretty quick on a budget theyve been known to take 450 wheel on a stock engine with the right setup you can get into the 10s with one of those at that power level which isnt too shabby either for an old "slow" car. I love gt500s, terminators and coyotes theyre great but i have a soft spot for 96-98 cobras i owned a bolt on 97 for 4 years back in the day. It ran great for the power it was making. Pulled on several bolt on lt1 cars and hung with ls1s...i know that isnt supposed to he possible in a lowly 97 cobra with bolt ons but it happened. Driver is a factor too ecspecially with a manual trans car. Just throwing that out there.
@@michaelharris748 The difference with my Shelby super snakes you don't have to change anything and you can make 900hp just like my 2010 super snake.Also my 850hp 08 gt500 can do the same.96 to 98 cobra motors are junk.I bought a 97 cobra new off the lot and 2000miles later missed one shift and blew the motor. JUNK JUNK.My 87 gt 5.0 took more abuse than that junk 4.6.I don't know what planet you're on but gt500 and definitely super snakes are light years above the first Gen 4.6.The 4.6 didn't become strong until the 03 04 cobra.

My 97 went well over 100k miles and was being shot with 125 shot most of its life by the previous owner and abused hard i dont really think that would qualify as junk. Just as you had a bad experience doesnt mean many others havent had good experiences with those cars. You do have to upgrade the internals but you can get a nice one for 1/3 what a decent terminator costs. Its all in what you want and what you have to spend
The Terminator (2003/2004) Cobra was underrated and had 420hp. The jump wasn't significant but the foundation was there for the 2005-2009 GT500 to be power kings. Salute to John Coletti chief SVT engineer who brought the Mustang into a competitive runner against the camaro and ultimately started the horsepower wars.
07-09 not 05-09...for the gt500s anyways. The cobra had around 420 true hp they dyno 360-380 rwhp while these gt500s dyno 420-450 so there is about 60-70 rwhp difference between them not 110 hp like the factory ratings suggest because the terminator was more underrated. There is a 250 lbs difference between coupes so that offset some of the power gain but the gt500 was still faster stock for stock and mod for mod and with mods the gap widens. These early gt500s are like sleeping giants once modded they gain ALOT of power you can literally gain 150+ rwhp with the stock blower still in place on pump gas that is insane. The gt500 seemed like a disappointment to the average person because the 03-04 cobra was so fast and underrated it made these seem like they were slower than they should be but they really wasn't. If you take into account what both actually dyno and the weight different the performance difference makes sense. Best I ever seen an 03 cobra trap stock was 113 mph in quarter best I ever seen an 07 gt500 trap was 116 both in real good air so while it isn't much quicker it is def faster (some things the terminators were quicker stock for stock they wasn't) stock and like I said you do similar mods to both the gap widens. I love both the 03 cobra and 07 up gt500. Always wanted one of the two and found a killer deal on an 07 gt500 I couldn't pass it up. Out of this world bang for the buck (16 grand, 100k clean title not perfect but real nice car and taken care of) I love the 5.4 always have its such a sick engine sounds wicked. These cars are so underrated. Mine is performance white no stripes sitting on a gunmetal f14 drag pack 17x7/15x10 setup. It's the perfect cross between modern muscle and classic muscle its so raw I love it.
I think I like the 2007-2009 GT500 the best because Carroll Shelby was heavily involved with the production and marketing. After the first gen, you didn't really hear from him. The newer Shelby's are super nice, but too much tech for me. They drive themselves.

The 07-09 GT500s are just so amazing. I feel like I can jump in one and drive across the country with a smile on my face. It's just a simple, raw, bold car.
11:13 gives me goosebumps when he rips it sideways. I want one of these so bad now that i have seen what they can be had for. Found a low milage loaded 09 coupe all the good options (hid headlights and shaker 1000 system with the subs) and solid black leather onlh 32k stock and super clean for 24. I beleive one of thesw will be my next mustang when it comes time to buy in a year and a half. Love em.
Did you ever land one? I picked up my '09 with 22k miles (fully loaded) for 35k back in March. That's about the going rate across the board. They are starting to go up in price. Might wanna jump on it if you haven't yet.

Interesting facts about that 5.4L 4V. The Terminator 4.6L had a fully forged rotatibg assembly, H-Beam Manly rofs from factory. The 5.4L got Forged Crank and Pistons, but the rods are the weak point, most people say not to go past 800whp. The cylinder heads are the same as rhe Ford GT, but it has the camshafts from the 4.6L Terminator Cobra. The Supercharger is an Eaton Roots 2.0L. These engines don't like high rpm, 6400 rpm is the safe limit. Its a very undersquare engine resulting in BIG torque numbers. 90.2mm Bore with a big 105.8mm stroke.
Maksim Koles maybe the mustang for engine reliability. Obviously the evo or sti will be quicker since they’re lighter and awd. Besides, It only took a pulley, tune and exhaust mods (full bolt ons basically) to create 600hp. Stock for stock I would take the mustang Shelby gt500 (same year in the video) . I’m not biased either, always wanted an evo or sti, but if you just wanted more power Shelby. I would have all cars if I can.

My 2008 GT 500 Is awesome ...Purchased it back in 6/2022 and it was the best purchase ever.....Bought it with 5235 original miles...It has a little over 7K at the moment.... @@R_Tower 07-09 also had aluminum heads...block was iron 07-10....outside of the block the 07-12 is essentially the same the 10-12 cars just have a better air intake and tune stock...once you have aftermarket intake and tune on both they both make similar power stock stuff is just more restrictive on the earlier ones leading to bigger gains in the aftermarket. 10 had half ass knock sensors and 11-12 have knock sensors and wideband stock but if youre getting tuned by a good tuner or in particular vmp or lund who both go way back tuning these cars youll be fine w either.
These cars are very fast, but get alot of hate because of the “slow” feeling its has from the extremely long gears from the factory. A good set of 3.73s on these cars make them a completely different car.
I *hate the horsepower war because* It turned many cars from the nature, quality, and experience of driving, into a quantity of driving... (Not because I hate HP) Now obviously not all cars went down that path and many benefits in experience from the HP, for example this Shelby is a fine example, but design philosophies just dont feel genuine anymore...And I'm not some purist old man from the stone ages, I'm a fucking millennial and I still feel this way. Nothing feels true anymore or filled with personality, majority cars feel very generic despite obvious differences. Even cars that we say nowadays filled with personality, are still close enough to a "generalized" feeling. I've driven every supercar from current gen except 488, countless sports cars and older vehicles, you really feel the difference in charm, and the confidence that certain cars for you or the laugh it puts on your face despite being slower or dumber or older. But AGAIN there obviously ARE modern cars that truly have personality, any Porsche GT car for example.
This is why I think the 2007-2009 Shelby is the best car out there right now. The fact Ford and Carrol Shelby got together one last time to come out with a new GT500, a car that ended almost 40 years ago at the time, and brought it back with 500 hp. It was the first Mustang to resemble the old 60's cars for the first time. I just think it makes it personable, and the first true modern Shelby. The car had a 30k dealer mark-up and still sold in a recession.
I think the 2013 model was where it started. Before then if you wanted that power it was 100k for a zr1 or viper ....or you had to magically find a super snake.

The 13-14 absolutely did NOT start the hp wars, they were however a product of the ongoing hp wars that were going on at that time and was started 10 years before with the terminator. Give credit where credit is due. I love the 13 shelby but theyre overrated and way overpriced, an early gt500 is just as good if you plan on modding anyways and be had a significantly cheaper as in half the price if talking about an 07-09 and 10-15 grand less for a later 11-12. Just because the stock hp is higher dont mean its worth double the price (not to me anyways) when an older gt500 can get to and above the same level as a bolt on 13 for WAY less money. It has a better blower stock which is 90% of the reason for the power pump. Yea its a 5.8 not a 5.4 it has slightly higher compression among other changes but tuners have said theyre more on the "ragid edge" compared to an earlier gt500 so in reality the earlier one might be the betteer choice if you wanna be above 700 whp on a stock engine. Both cars are great i just think the 13 is overpriced by comparison. Thats fine with me ill take a nice low mile 09 for half the price and put a few grand in it and be bettee overall than a 13 and save a bunch of money to each their own. But make no mistake the hp war started with the terminator it was ahead of its time

The competition wasnt even around back then to compete in a "horsepower war" the Camaro wasnt back until the 2010 model year and the challenger as an 08. You didn't see competition in the horsepower wars until the ZL1 and the creation of the hellcat. Leave respect where respect is due. The 5.8 started it all not a puny 4.6. Theres a reason they code named the engine trinity, Look into it.
I don’t think the front of these cars aged well. I think the front of the 05-09 GT looks better now even though back in the day I preferred this Shelby front. I think the best looking car for this body style is the 07-09 California Special. Those look great to this day.
To each their own. I feel the exact opposite. I had two '06 GT's at one point and adore my '09 GT500 a million times more. The blocky front ends of the GTs make them look slow. The GT500, with its angular headlights, wide grill, and front splitter, looks fast as hell.
Old comment i know but its very nose heavy ecspecially the early iron block gt500s its heavy at 3900 lbs i would look elsewhere if trying to make a track car if you want something similar price and still special that would be much bettee suited go for a 12-13 boss 302...either that or a newer gt350 if you can afford it its even better both would be much better as a track car imho. Now for a nice day cruiser that you put in car shows and go to meets with and roll race and/or drag race with it then this is the car for you lol. Thats what i want and thats why i am gonna get a gt500. Early one like this they can be had for such good deals and i like that they have less tech and are more raw that is a plus to me some may not like that. All in what you want.

Don’t get my wrong it’s a cool car, with an awesome engine but the rest of the package is pretty basic tech, suspension is archaic, interior is basic, it’s heavy, it’s no modern sports car. She’s good in a straight line and sounds good but the games moved on allot. it’s a little bit of a one trick pony

Im pretty sure it started with dodge and the SRT's that came out..mustang at the time had what, a 300hp mustang and chevy had no camaro..ever since the SRT line up came out, the gt500 came our, Zl1/Z28/ZR1/ new Ford GT came out, viper came back, feel like you got the title wrong in my opinion

11:13 gives me goosebumps when he rips it sideways. I want one of these so bad now that i have seen what they can be had for. Found a low milage loaded 09 coupe all the good options (hid headlights and shaker 1000 system with the subs) and solid black leather onlh 32k stock and super clean for 24. I beleive one of thesw will be my next mustang when it comes time to buy in a year and a half. Love em.
Did you ever land one? I picked up my '09 with 22k miles (fully loaded) for 35k back in March. That's about the going rate across the board. They are starting to go up in price. Might wanna jump on it if you haven't yet.

Roads Untraveled I’ll shout you guys out on my main channel called Driven To Drive, it won’t be much but I wanna help as much as I can
Interesting facts about that 5.4L 4V. The Terminator 4.6L had a fully forged rotatibg assembly, H-Beam Manly rofs from factory. The 5.4L got Forged Crank and Pistons, but the rods are the weak point, most people say not to go past 800whp. The cylinder heads are the same as rhe Ford GT, but it has the camshafts from the 4.6L Terminator Cobra. The Supercharger is an Eaton Roots 2.0L. These engines don't like high rpm, 6400 rpm is the safe limit. Its a very undersquare engine resulting in BIG torque numbers. 90.2mm Bore with a big 105.8mm stroke.
So which would you choose, 600hp evo, sti or this mustang?
Maksim Koles maybe the mustang for engine reliability. Obviously the evo or sti will be quicker since they’re lighter and awd. Besides, It only took a pulley, tune and exhaust mods (full bolt ons basically) to create 600hp. Stock for stock I would take the mustang Shelby gt500 (same year in the video) . I’m not biased either, always wanted an evo or sti, but if you just wanted more power Shelby. I would have all cars if I can.
This car started the modern muscle car wars. I like the 07-09 model the best. The newer ones look like the regular GT with stripes.

My 2008 GT 500 Is awesome ...Purchased it back in 6/2022 and it was the best purchase ever.....Bought it with 5235 original miles...It has a little over 7K at the moment.... If you are looking for a muscle car, This is the car you need to get! I have the same color scheme is this video.. Ford forever!

the Lightning got a pleb standard pickup 5.4 with a m122, the GT got an all aluminum 5.4 four camma jamma
theblackmech 07-09 = iron block / beads. 10 = iron block / alum. heads. 11-14 Alum. block / alum. Head.
@@R_Tower 07-09 also had aluminum heads...block was iron 07-10....outside of the block the 07-12 is essentially the same the 10-12 cars just have a better air intake and tune stock...once you have aftermarket intake and tune on both they both make similar power stock stuff is just more restrictive on the earlier ones leading to bigger gains in the aftermarket. 10 had half ass knock sensors and 11-12 have knock sensors and wideband stock but if youre getting tuned by a good tuner or in particular vmp or lund who both go way back tuning these cars youll be fine w either.

These cars are very fast, but get alot of hate because of the “slow” feeling its has from the extremely long gears from the factory. A good set of 3.73s on these cars make them a completely different car.

I *hate the horsepower war because* It turned many cars from the nature, quality, and experience of driving, into a quantity of driving... (Not because I hate HP) Now obviously not all cars went down that path and many benefits in experience from the HP, for example this Shelby is a fine example, but design philosophies just dont feel genuine anymore...And I'm not some purist old man from the stone ages, I'm a fucking millennial and I still feel this way.
Nothing feels true anymore or filled with personality, majority cars feel very generic despite obvious differences. Even cars that we say nowadays filled with personality, are still close enough to a "generalized" feeling. I've driven every supercar from current gen except 488, countless sports cars and older vehicles, you really feel the difference in charm, and the confidence that certain cars for you or the laugh it puts on your face despite being slower or dumber or older. But AGAIN there obviously ARE modern cars that truly have personality, any Porsche GT car for example.
This is why I think the 2007-2009 Shelby is the best car out there right now. The fact Ford and Carrol Shelby got together one last time to come out with a new GT500, a car that ended almost 40 years ago at the time, and brought it back with 500 hp. It was the first Mustang to resemble the old 60's cars for the first time. I just think it makes it personable, and the first true modern Shelby. The car had a 30k dealer mark-up and still sold in a recession.

I think the 2013 model was where it started. Before then if you wanted that power it was 100k for a zr1 or viper ....or you had to magically find a super snake.

@@Frosty_coyote yea but hes not saying 10 grand in mods a terminator can get close to 500 wheel with a couple grand in mods a far cry from what it took most cars to hit 500 wheel hp back in those days. The 13-14 absolutely did NOT start the hp wars, they were however a product of the ongoing hp wars that were going on at that time and was started 10 years before with the terminator. Give credit where credit is due. I love the 13 shelby but theyre overrated and way overpriced, an early gt500 is just as good if you plan on modding anyways and be had a significantly cheaper as in half the price if talking about an 07-09 and 10-15 grand less for a later 11-12. Just because the stock hp is higher dont mean its worth double the price (not to me anyways) when an older gt500 can get to and above the same level as a bolt on 13 for WAY less money. It has a better blower stock which is 90% of the reason for the power pump. Yea its a 5.8 not a 5.4 it has slightly higher compression among other changes but tuners have said theyre more on the "ragid edge" compared to an earlier gt500 so in reality the earlier one might be the betteer choice if you wanna be above 700 whp on a stock engine. Both cars are great i just think the 13 is overpriced by comparison. Thats fine with me ill take a nice low mile 09 for half the price and put a few grand in it and be bettee overall than a 13 and save a bunch of money to each their own.
But make no mistake the hp war started with the terminator it was ahead of its time

The competition wasnt even around back then to compete in a "horsepower war" the Camaro wasnt back until the 2010 model year and the challenger as an 08. You didn't see competition in the horsepower wars until the ZL1 and the creation of the hellcat. Leave respect where respect is due. The 5.8 started it all not a puny 4.6. Theres a reason they code named the engine trinity, Look into it.

I don’t think the front of these cars aged well. I think the front of the 05-09 GT looks better now even though back in the day I preferred this Shelby front. I think the best looking car for this body style is the 07-09 California Special. Those look great to this day.
To each their own. I feel the exact opposite. I had two '06 GT's at one point and adore my '09 GT500 a million times more. The blocky front ends of the GTs make them look slow. The GT500, with its angular headlights, wide grill, and front splitter, looks fast as hell.
I have one in red with 1200 miles on it.

Old comment i know but its very nose heavy ecspecially the early iron block gt500s its heavy at 3900 lbs i would look elsewhere if trying to make a track car if you want something similar price and still special that would be much bettee suited go for a 12-13 boss 302...either that or a newer gt350 if you can afford it its even better both would be much better as a track car imho. Now for a nice day cruiser that you put in car shows and go to meets with and roll race and/or drag race with it then this is the car for you lol. Thats what i want and thats why i am gonna get a gt500. Early one like this they can be had for such good deals and i like that they have less tech and are more raw that is a plus to me some may not like that. All in what you want.

Don’t get my wrong it’s a cool car, with an awesome engine but the rest of the package is pretty basic tech, suspension is archaic, interior is basic, it’s heavy, it’s no modern sports car. She’s good in a straight line and sounds good but the games moved on allot. it’s a little bit of a one trick pony
