Hey Matt. This is very much an E-GMP platform issue that I’ve been covering for over a year now. Much of it had to do with the telematics pinging the cars too much (sometimes thousands of times per day) which wakes up the modem every time. It also has to do with the state of charge the car is left at. Try not to leave the car below 20-30 SOC. The platform was also originally developed using AGM batteries for the 12V system but to save money, they started using lead acid for production which as we know, doesn’t like to be discharged to a low level
One would think that Kia would have figured this out with previous models on the EGMP Platform. This is old news.(2022). Shame on you Kia. Why is Kia carrying over the same crap to new models. Learn from your mistakes. Thats why Tesla is 10 years ahead in technology! You should not have to turn things off to stop this drain. If the car cant work with all the features the engineers designed into the car , then why have them and charge the customer? So much for R/D and testing to see if it works well. So much for trying to become a market leader in EV Technology. Come on BYD, when are you coming to the USA?
@@rhuynhYou can replace your lead acid battery with an AGM battery, which is what the e-GMP cars were originally designed to have. Hyundai/Kia just decided to save money in production and use cheap lead acid batteries. I wouldn’t recommend using a lithium battery as the platform wasn’t developed for it. The ioniq guy has a recent video on changing his battery and his ioniq 5 and he goes over why lithium isn’t a good idea for the e-GMP cars.
I had this issue on my EV9, Jump started it, then run Utility mode for a couple of hours. 12V battery is now fully charged and car is starting on its own. I will now run utility mode once a week to keep 12V battery in good shape.
I'm glad someone acknowledged the issue. I didn't make out of the dealership. After test drive, EV 9 died while they were washing it. 2 weeks still at dealer, 1st they seem to think it something related to key fob, 2nd andriod auto, 3rd rear camera sensor. 2 weeks till this day, car is still at dealer. Disappointing.
We made it almost a month before the 12v died today. Only one of the 3 we had set up was Phone As Key. Got rid of that today. Either way, recommend everyone pick up a 12v jumper kit. Just in case.
Thanks for this video. I’m glad I saw it. I have an EV nine and it has never died. But I also have never set up the things that you talked about so I’m glad that I didn’t and I’m glad I saw your video before I set them up.
I have a 2020 kia Soul EV and the 12volt battery died at two years. I replaced it with an aftermarket battery cheaper than the dealer prorated price. I see a couple of reasons, first and foremost is that Hyundai-Kia has no clue with software. second the charging voltage is often 15+ volts so the battery is cooking every time it charges. third, everything is an Easter egg it is videos like this that help us, not the dealer or the manual. Thank you.
Too bad. You shouldn’t have to turn anything off in order to save battery life. It should work the way it’s meant to be used - period. Hopefully they fix this.
I have all these on my ev9 gt and use them except the locked charger, my 12v light is on a lot but I'm happy to see it on. Compared to my EV6 GT I rarely see it on but I don't have issues with that battery. I'll be upgrading to an Ohmmu LiFePO4 for the ev9 anyways to avoid all these issues others are having.
Phone as key and finger print for driver profit is actually very convenience. it's sad that you have to disable those future to prevent a issue that should never happen at the first place.
Thanks, I will be referencing this video when I get my EV9, hopefully a software update will fix these issues. Out of curiosity is the 12V battery located in the trunk?
I have a 23 Kona EV. I see a yellow light on the hood light up on a regular basis which means the main battery is charging the 12V. In almost a year never had an 12V issue - so weird that EGMP is having issues.
Software update???? LMAO. Don’t hold your breath. Ioniq 5 was supposed to be THEE first Hyundai/KIA with OTAs. Two years later we’re still doing updates via USB keys.
Had similar issues on Kia Niro. There is was the trunk sensor mostly. Now always have a chargable 12V starter onboard. Seems i will keep it once I get the EV9 end of this month...
I own an Ioniq 6 essentially its the same car. I had a problem with my 12V dying as well (after owning it for 3 months). I like your video but I think the problem is Hyundai is selling these cars with bad batteries. I ended up replacing mine myself because Hyundai told me there was nothing wrong with it after 2 visits. I bought an AGM for $300. I seen one post where Tesla used to sell Flooded batteries (which what our cars comes with) but they had the same issues and they since switched to an AGM. It's been 3 months with the new battery and I haven't had any problems
I was thinking of replacing the battery with an AGM when I get my EV9 (in Europe). People have been warning me not to do it. They claim an AGM battery charges differently from the standard battery it comes with and will cause problems. Seems swapping out the battery for an AGM version is they way to go though?
I think the settings have nothing to do with the 12v battery. I don't have a problem with the battery and I don't know of anyone who has a problem with the battery. In Europe, EV9s are not sold with an indicator light. Unfortunately, I don't have the option to turn off the charging connector lock. EV9 does not offer this feature. Please let me know if you know how to activate the function. I use V2L a lot and the ability to turn off the charging connector lock would be great.
Just wait! I have an Ohmu battery in my 2022 Kia EV6. It helps but it is not the answer. I have been fighting the Kia Dealership for a year to try and fix this 12v phantom drain issue to no avail. The dealership is out of ideas with software updates, keyfobs, telematics, etc. they say my iccu is not an issue etc. They are out of ideas and so is Kia Corporate. Im dumping the car this year. Cant take it anymore, its unreliable . Im going back to Tesla, say what you will, but I have had better reliability better trained techs, and easier charging.
You need a 24 volt lithium ion battery. KIA did the math and they will do nothing to fix it. Modern cars are efficient but simultaneously power hungry. We are using an 80 year old 12 volt power architecture designed for purely mechanical cars. It’s absurd you have to resort to “fixes” in a 80K car.
Also replace the standard 12v batteries with lithium ion batteries which are longer lasting and can handle the technology load of these modern EV's i had a model s and i Also had problems with my 12v system and this remedied the problem

Great info thank you!!

Is there a way to upgrade your 12v from lead acid to something else like lithium. Same as what some did in earlier Teslas?

Don’t understand why this hasn’t been fixed yet after 2 yrs. It’s inexcusable.

Thanks for this video! I have a dead battery in my EV9 at the moment... Nice to see that you're listening to the Suzuki violin recordings. 🎻

Hey Matt, thanks for the effort but none of these affect the 12 V battery it’s something else on specific vehicles and Kia is aware on those concerns
the dash board light is north america only !!!
Good to know

12V located in the frunk

Will wait for the next year model with Nacs
I've got all those set up and have never had an issue. They are parts of the car and should be able to be turned on.
Had similar issues on Kia Niro.

My Genesis GV70 Electrified died the day I got the Recall notice about the issue.
Had my EV9 for one Month and it happened to me this morning.
Keep a NOCO charger in the car at all times.
Oddly, I’ve no option for Do Not Lock. Just always and While charging. It’s a euro RHD.
Indeed
Your main traction battery will only charge the 12 v when it is above 20%

I got a ohmmu 12 v in my ev6 gt and its a year old no problems

@@haroldmichael3492 they just put in a recall for the ICCU...we started getting the dead 12v on our 2022 EV6 GT line recently
Welcome to Ioniq 5 life. It’s the overactive Hyundai BlueLink pings.
This shouldn't be happening, Hyundai/Kia should fix this asap, should have been fixed over a year ago. If this happened to me I would be pissed.
We shouldn't even be doing Jumpstarts on our vehicles....
So... in short. Don't use any of the extra features included with your $80k car. Come on KIA/Hyundai, you gotta stop letting customers down like this.
My response exactly.

Just buy a trickle charger
😂😂gotta turn half of the damn convenience features to cross fingers and hope car starts 55k car smh😂😂
Hey, don’t lie, you’re a tesla fan. I have one and everything is fine.
Hey. This is a real problem. One I know before I pulled the trigger on mine.
Hey. This is a real problem. One I know before I pulled the trigger on mine.
Hey. This is a real problem. One I know before I pulled the trigger on mine.
Tesla does everything better than all other OEM but I do think the EV9 is a fantastic SUV
Tesla has a lot of problems, I don’t see that it’s better
Worst car ever.
