Picked up a Land a few months back. High MSRP but got a great lease deal. 3 rows, lots of power, luxury that punches way above its weight, quirky enough to be unique but normal enough to be secure. Maybe in the future there will be other options, but right now I you're looking for an EV with this kind of space, this is the only real choice. I understand that there are three types of people right now... wildly pro-EV, extremely anti-EV, and everyone else. If you're in the first two camps, nothing is going to convince you that you're wrong. For all the other people, I would suggest you logically consider facts rather than taking advice from people with an agenda. People who hate on EVs for one reason or another right now tend to be shouting the loudest, and the reality is that a lot of so called "complaints" don't have much effect on real-world every day life.
As of October 28, 2024, State Farm Insurance removed all EV chargers from its Bloomington, Illinois headquarters due to fire risk. If an insurance company chooses not to deal with thermal runaways, how long before Idiot EV owners lose their insurance coverage?
I also got the Kia EV 9 land on a great lease deal. Otherwise would have been too expensive. I traded in my Tesla model y for the larger space. In mid January Kia should get access to Tesla network
This is my likely next vehicle after my Mach-E lease runs out. I occasionally need to shlep 5 adults, but otherwise want something comfortable and quick to change lanes and convenient. My wife wants something waftier than our Mach-E (non-Magneride); more like the Pacifica Hybrid my son has taken over. Not sure if I'd go for Land or GT-Line trim; I *don't* want the power second row, though. Thanks, Tom.
Regular gas 3 row crossovers can top out mid 60K, so add electric powertrain to that and the price is pretty spot on - Kia or not. Great review as always!
I do have an issue with EV pricing: Pick any vehicle that is available as a Plug-in Hybrid as well as an EV... the Hybrid is always cheaper... WHY?! I struggle to understand how you can add engine, cooling system, fuel tank, transmission, exhaust, catalytic converter, to the systems already there for electic power, and sell it at a lower price. The fully-electric vehicle only needs larger battery, and possibly upgraded motor and charging system, yet we pay more. Don't misunderstand me; our vehicles are all fully electric, and include a Kia which we love! (Niro EV, don't need anything bigger, or the EV9 would be my choice.)
@@DrivenCarReviews : I understand... I am still suspicious. Almost all parts of an EV are simple, and don't require the precision of an ICE engine / trans. Are manufacturers milking the situation? In truth, they probably need to in today's financial climate.
Tom love your reviews. You are so professional and the video quality is amazing. I’ll drive a Tesla Model S and I love love love the Kia EV9. Might even replace my 189,000 mile S with this vehicle soon. I was so impressed and I’ve driven almost every other electric vehicle. Did a review on my channel too. I even recommended to a lot of people who need EV advice.
My neighbor walked by and was clearly smitten by the vehicle (this was back a few months ago). I was driving past her house yesterday and she was unloading groceries from her new EV9 with temp plates. She was gushing about it. People seem to love them.
EV9's in my area are discounted $12-16K off the MSRP, taking off a bit of the high price. The EV9 Land in this video is $58K in our market in Okla. Harder to sell these here since gas is only $2.50/gal.
True on all points. Sometimes I go into the "leasing" and "haggle hard" messaging but I'm trying to keep these videos short. And it's not just about money, for some people EVs can be better vehicles.
@@DrivenCarReviews Totally understand the need to keep the videos shorter. I found a Tesla Model Y was ideal for my driving, especially with a 240v outlet in my garage.
I hate these tall imposing hoods on family vehicles. They aren't necessary (especially for an EV) and are strictly cosmetic. They are much more dangerous to pedestrians, especially children.
@DrivenCarReviews I guess it depends on what you're comparing to. It's not as tall as a Tahoe but it has a very tall, squared off front end compared to, say, the average 5 year old child. Vehicles in America are getting way too big and it's extra insulting when there's not even remotely any technical reason why they need to be this way. It's purely a style statement and is very dangerous.
Going back as far as Ralph Nader (remember him), studies have shown that a smooth design is the most significant factor. Hood ornaments and protruding (1960's) fender fronts are bad. High-clearance fronts that channel the pedestrian under the vehicle... also bad. Similarly, low fronts that knock out the legs of the pedestrian, and launch them head-first into the windscreen results in higher risk of head injury. I don't think this design poses a greater risk than the millions of pickups, bull-bars and all, that clog the roads already.
So, everytime you test a car, are you going to Costco, buying a rolling pallet cart full of TP, then immediately going to the return line and getting a refund?
Just a thought: the price of these 3 rows I think is a real problem for families having 3 kids. 50-80k to be able to take the fam is a lot when a 35k Camry hybrid can take 2 kids. This is very nice, but for me I want a range of 300-350 miles. And for this money I'd have the ID Buzz :). But it's a nice car and well presented, as always.
The Buzz doesn't meet that range standard, is the issue (alongside the price). For range + 3 full rows the options are EV9 and R1S, that's it. If a gimped 3rd row is fine, add Model X.
@@davids1816 : Sorry about that!... I am a simpleton, and that was my simpleton's way of graphically saying I thought you were not comparing apples with apples. 😜
ID.Buzz is going to be WAY more expensive. Anecdotally, VW dealers are charging 10-15K over MSRP due to short supply. My neighbor got $10K off the sticker of her EV9.
This is a great Costco/School trip/Ikea car, for people with 2+ kids. I wouldn't roadtrip - no spare and EV charging is hit or miss. An AWD with 300 plus miles makes sense at 48k, not more
Road tripping charging will be solved this year by adopting NACS. As for price, $48k gets you an AWD Telluride, thinking you'll get the BEV equivalent the same price is madness. Anyway, in some places you can get a lease deal with the federal rebate that's very competitive.
74K vs 48K with a 7.5K Tax rebate for a Tesla model Y, which is smaller. Add to that, the model Y is at least 1 mile per kWh more efficient and the Tesla charging network, being 20-40% cheaper than Electrify America. I don’t even see how you can say that this is a great deal. Storage space is a definite advantage for the EV9, however I don’t see the advantages here!
You are not alone! In fairness, for the last sixty years I have soaked up everything I could read or watch on cars that I would never own... you need a reason to dream, and to buy the Lottery ticket! 😜
yea! it is a great vehicle, EV's the future and this one does it all, do yourself a favor and drive an EV to find out about EV's yourself... however since it is an "EV" so of course politically and for other(?) reason's it's not for everyone, for those folks glad there's still plenty of ICE vehicles to choose from. ps even if you don't have a home charger (apt etc) it's still fine
The title says wind not land. I think the wind is the sweet spot. It has almost everything I want and I prefer the matte plastic around the wheel wells, it has a bench seat for the second row and it costs a lot less. I suggest that during the next pandemic when you go to Costco to panic buy toilet paper, you leave the kids at home to maximize cargo. I watched a video by an owner of an EV nine and he said the location of the start button is great once you get used to it.
Keep in mind, with any EV, if you hit something in the road and it damages the undercarriage battery, it is not a warranty claim. You'll either have to file an insurance claim on the $60k Hyundai/Kia battery, which will likely total out the vehicle, or fork over the cash yourself if you want to keep the vehicle. People are already finding that out the hard way.
Yup. That's what insurance is for. And careful of space debris raining down on your house. Happens all the time. But once again, that's what insurance is for.
Out the door prices are way less. $61590 near me for new Land trims, the Wind is still nice and even less. Light long ranges are $49k to start at dealers near me in MN.
Amazing how many $74,000+ gas pickup trucks our local Ford, Dodge and Chevy dealers have on their lots. Apparently plenty of people can afford $74,000.
No memory seats for LIGHT and WIND. You’ll have to go up to a LAND. Which is Tesla Model X and Rivian R1S territory. Kia’s tech and drive comes no where close to either one.
