      Hi greg . Ive just begun painting and have recently purchased a graco ultra 395 sprayer. Ive bought with the intention to spray all skirting and architrave. Have you any advice for me i dont have any experience spraying. If for instance i needed to undercoat all skirting doors and architrave with oil based undercoat would you have to clean sprayer completely with turps before using the top coat? I know this is basic stuff for you but any help would be really appreciated

Prep the areas after the undercoat, gap,sand,dust,spray a second coat next day. Wash ur gun out properly between coats or leave ends in water. Finish off with water based or oil based gloss, expect some runs,dont panic,let them dry,sand,recoat.
      I would use a 210 or 211 tip for trimwork.

    I'm amazed!!! I have to use water based paint as I have cats so it's a problem . Also here in U.K. we have very dull weather. Just started to paint the doors with roller and finishing with a damp brush. Light is aweful despite using a lamp which casts shadows then one of the cats decided to investigate. Have given up as the last door was aweful mainly due to light probs but water based isn't easy. will you do a video on water based paint on the same door style?

    • @ThePa1nterhowto
      @ThePa1nterhowto  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi thanks for commenting, painting doors with water based paint is the same method as above, brush the inserts and then roll the flats. I am laughing imagining your cats covered in paint while you are doing it.
      In damp weather there is a chance that a quick dry oil based paint can be used and drys much quicker than water based, you would need to speak to someone at the paint store to see what they have.

    Good job. I always used a mini roller with mohair or velvet nap. But your 9" is a lot faster. The wood texture probably hides if there is any orange peel. How does that big roller work on a smooth flat door. Do you have to tip it out or does the roller finish level out ok?

    • @ThePa1nterhowto

      I think today's products have become more adapt for the amateur and an amateur finish that comes with it. Nothing beats the oil-based paints, I know myself if I thin the oil-based paint down there will be lots more fumes. I personally can't smell the fumes as I've been around it much too long. Perhaps have a fan on in the houses to push the fumes out the window is all I can suggest. You would not be happy with water-based gloss enamel after you used oil-based, just for sheen, self levelling, hardness etc

      Yes they are the smooth coat brushes.
      Penetrol as far as I know does not increase the yellowing of enamels, when I was using Berger Gold Label enamels, yellowing was happening quickly but it seems since I am now using Dulux Professional Gloss and no penetrol, yellowing is not as noticeable ,so I just put it down to a better quality gloss not the penetrol.
