Third base is an eternal black hole for the Mets. Of the 189 people who have played at least 1 game at third for them, 183 did it for less than 250 games. That leaves a grand total of 6 who manned the hot corner for more than a couple of seasons' worth: Robin Ventura (436 games in 3 years), Edgardo Alfonzo (515, 6), Hubie Brooks (516, 5), Wayne Garrett (711, 8), Howard Johnson (835, 8), and of course the Captain (1,586, 14). My prediction's still going strong of Wright getting barely 5% his first year, but either making it his 10th year or first time on a Veteran's committee ballot. As for background music, I actually go onto Bandcamp, search the city where the team I’m covering is based, and have a listening session in order to curate the soundtrack. I am dying laughing at the way he went on and on and on to video presumably sent to a child about their favorite player, what a perfect use of the cameo money
Honestly, he didn’t have the career like Wright or Jones did, but you could make an interesting case into the Brewers trying to replace Prince Fielder, still happening to this day arguably. Made very interesting moves throughout with some interesting names. 1B has been a BLACK HOLE since he left.
I was looking into a new Mets jersey and I couldn’t help but buy another David Wright jersey (to be fair my first jersey in years). With that being said, I was looking for current rostered Met jerseys, but none of them really represent what it is to be a good franchise met to me. I think the closest to me is Alonso, but he may gone this FA. I couldn’t see myself ever getting a Lindor jersey after that stunt he pullled booing back at fans. Degrom left a few season ago too…. There really hasn’t been any player who was been able to be the next Wright for me. MAYBE Alonso…
Also, as a Boston fan, I can empathize with you David Wright fans, because little did we know that a dirty slide would basically end Dustin Pedroa's career too. Pedroia's last game was extremely uneventful, and in fact, most of us didn't even watch it because it was a regular weekday game in April. Wright's supposed to get his team induction this year, though I think, right? Pedroia gets his induction this year for Boston too. Hopefully both get a Cooperstown plaque one day, too, but we're all going to have to wait a while for that to happen.
Yeah the parallels between them can get uncanny. Both experienced early success with their teams, made long term committments before experiencing freak injuries that shortened their careers. You are right that Pedey didn't ever get a truly climactic send off, and I'd argue his injury felt a lot more preventable (I discovered that Wright was predisposed to Spinal Stenosis). Never forgiving Manny Machado for what he did.
@@OccasionalNASCARRaces idk they're both pretty borderline. If they were players just 20 years ago, I'd say no way because of longevity. But the way they push players these days, careers are getting shorter and shorter. We'll never see another 300 game winner, probably never even another 250 game winner. We're probably going to see the last couple 500 HR hitters this generation, and MIggy may have been the last 3,000 hit player of our lifetimes. Other than saves, strikeouts, and managerial wins, most records are probably safe at this point. Thus, we should consider the era these guys played in, where they were pushed to more intense limits and in Pedroia's case, a flat-out dirty play from players that are getting exceedingly large in size.
Expect for Wright the Mets have always had troubles finding a third base men. Hell it got so bad that the Mets traded Nolan Ryan away for a has been third base men

Good
Love you, Zach
Vientos is looking like a replacement if nothing else, hopefully he can keep developing into a successor
Red Sox fan, loved Pedey, but neither him nor Wright are Hall of Famers
I’d say they’ve found it in Mark Vientos
Expect for Wright the Mets have always had troubles finding a third base men. Hell it got so bad that the Mets traded Nolan Ryan away for a has been third base men
Crazy that the Mets had Justin Turner as the answer but let him walk. Great video.
Tbf he needed that trip to the Dodgers hitting lab in order to become the Justin Turner we know and love.
Reptilia into ode to the Mets is chefs kiss 👌
