Ihave the same memories as you-l lost my dear wife after 60 years of marriage- l had this song sung by JIM REEVES at her funeral the words still bring a tear to my eyes whenever l hear them
candd87 Oh yes Jim Reeves had by far the best record of I can't stop loving you and it was his last song recorded in 1964.Thankl you Jim for recording this wonderful song.
I goofed and hit the wrong hand. I agree this song is great - my husband has died, and this is my story - I will live the rest of my life in sweet memories of a life with a wonderful mate. I can't stop loving him.
@Meg Johnson - Women are not known to give up their age too quickly, so being 960+ years old...you don't care anymore. Are you the great, great, great granddaughter of Methuselah?
@7danalee Danalee, you've got it so right, you're Uncle was/is one of the greats. Anyone who likes REAL country music, the best of country music, would have to include Don. He has such a great tonal quality, I don't know why he wasn't even bigger than he was.
I LOOOOOVE this song. I cover this in my shows and always bring the house down. Almost ever time I play this song, the crowd starts singing the chorus with me. God bless Don Gibson, you are missed.
Amazing. I'm not a big country fan, and I grew up on the Ray Charles version, but this is Gibson's song and he sang it so purely and with such emotion that it felt like going back to North Carolina. One mark of a great song is that people can do it different ways, and all touch your heart. I think Etta James (RIP) said all good torch songs have a touch of country. That's certainly true in this case.
One of the greatest artists ever. Don sure could sing a ballad. Love songs were just right up his alley I feel. This classic says so much and is one of the most popular songs ever written and sung. Thank you for posting. We love, love, Don Gibson. Thank you for posting this winner. - Paula
great romantic song.... great composition... the performance by Ray Charles is well-known all over the world... an evergreen... mooi... beautiful... bellissimo... magnifique... schön... baie mooi.... Don Gibson is a great composer!!!!! Respect
@7danalee I could not agree more, this man saved country mucic as rockabilly and rock and roll were taken hold. and when i say country music, i mean this!!!!! my grandfather was a fan, my dad was a fan and so am I. thanks for posting.
I really agree that Don Gibson is underrated! Even if he only wrote this one song he would still be great. Great lyrics. Don Gibson wrote this song and recorded it in 1957. Ray Charles convered it in 1962 and created one of the greatest pop recordings ever.
PAUL ANKA'S VERSION WITH ROMANTIC VERSES ("A LOVE DECLARATION") IS ALSO BEAUTIFULLY SUNG. DON GIBSON COMPOSED THIS RAY CHARLES'S MOST FAMOUS AND BEAUTIFUL SONG - I LIKE IT A LOT NO MATTER WHO SINGS IT! :)
Back in 1965 we took a tour through Nashville and the guide showed us the motel where Don stayed when he wrote these two songs. Wonder if that was true?
Mr. Weedpatch- that is an Ibanez Bob Wier "Tree Of Life" guitar, which Marvin still had when I played with him and Hap Robinson (steel player on "He Stopped Loving Her Today") in 1991-1992 here in Charleston, SC. Marvin gave me the best education in how to properly play country piano anyone could ask for- from a GUITARIST!!!
way way better than ray, sorry, the first versions always the best....... it made me cry wen i was 13, and iam 65 now, and it still has me in tears....... no other artist/genius has ever done that. thank you don.
all you that call your hiphop country listen to this, itsreal loving fight music, this nc boy was great,if you didnt know how to cry, well come listen to don.
I'm not sure of the actual number... but I know you're probably close. It is truly legendary! Very proud of him. He was a wonderful man, and I loved him very much!
Man I thought this was originally Ray Charles song. This guy does a very good job but Ray made the song one of if not the greatest vocal performances ever
For sure! Ray Charles was a big fan of Don Gibson, who wrote this song. Ray loved country music, but I liked how he did this song and the other country covers in his own unique r&b style. Ray never intended those 2 country western tributes to be straight up country albums, but many traditional country fans started to appreciate Ray. With a racially divided north and south, Ray brought everyone together through music.
Don Gibson was one hell of a song writter and one great country soel singer.....and Marvin could play the shit out of that guitar....if anyone know's what kind of guitar Marvin's playing I'd sure like to know.....
You are correct, just a little later on, enough to say a different place and a different time. Hank had the same influence as Jimmie Rogers.....No way to measure Hank's contribution to the music we hear today....He was awesome.....
IMO Don Gibson was the most under rated country artist of all time. His music will absolutely live FOREVER!!
He was the greatest and the best ever period
He’s not underrated. He’s very highly rated, as well he should be.
I can't stop loving you, sweet dreams both written by Don Gibson
Ihave the same memories as you-l lost my dear wife after 60 years of marriage- l had this song sung by JIM REEVES at her funeral the words still bring a tear to my eyes whenever l hear them

My husband bought this LP for my 23rd birthday in 1060. Still love him lots
@Meg Johnson

greatest a singer a song ever knew!

I think I love all of Don's songs. Thanks for sharing. : )
I LOOOOOVE this song. I cover this in my shows and always bring the house down. Almost ever time I play this song, the crowd starts singing the chorus with me. God bless Don Gibson, you are missed.
Oh, this is so beautiful! Thanks for sharing it. Don Gibson was such an incredible and soulful singer, and the guitar player in this is wonderful.
One of the favorites of us Athabaskan and Eskimo peoples in Alaska
Amazing. I'm not a big country fan, and I grew up on the Ray Charles version, but this is Gibson's song and he sang it so purely and with such emotion that it felt like going back to North Carolina.

@7danalee I could not agree more, this man saved country mucic as rockabilly and rock and roll were taken hold. and when i say country music, i mean this!!!!! my grandfather was a fan, my dad was a fan and so am I. thanks for posting.

TV selling country songs
Wow you can see the native mix in don gibson,, there are a lot of actors and singers who have native mix, like elvis and johnny depp.
Don Gibson sang all of the song, check out Ray Charles, his backing group did most of the work. Country wins!!!!
All the rock and roll comes from country, most will argue that but they haven’t listened to the music
Don was the man, soo goooood, thanks for the share, I enjoyed it immensely!
Hank Williams Don Gibson two off country greatest song writers
So True
Both tortured, interesting characters.
brilliant singer
It was written by my Uncle on the same day he wrote Oh, Lonesome Me. Both written on the same piece of paper.
Back in 1965 we took a tour through Nashville and the guide showed us the motel where Don stayed when he wrote these two songs. Wonder if that was true?
I thought he wrote them in his trailer outside of town?!
Mr. Weedpatch- that is an Ibanez Bob Wier "Tree Of Life" guitar, which Marvin still had when I played with him and Hap Robinson (steel player on "He Stopped Loving Her Today") in 1991-1992 here in Charleston, SC. Kris Kristoferson Roger Millerr Don Gibson must be 3 of the best writers of country music ever
As singer songwriters go Marty Robbins is also up there with Don Gibson Roger Miller and Kris Kristofferson as well
Fantasztikus produkció, csodálatos a dal, nagyon tetszett.
Köszönettel Budapestről Klára Szépvölgyi
I'm not sure of the actual number... but I know you're probably close. It is truly legendary! Very proud of him. He was a wonderful man, and I loved him very much!
Don Was First, He also wrote the song
@waln492 Ray Charles is among about a hundred or more who have recorded this song. Jean Shepard had a great version. Don Gibson wrote this song.
nice vocal for country songs. What has happen to the present days song and music?
Someday my love...
Man I thought this was originally Ray Charles song. This guy does a very good job but Ray made the song one of if not the greatest vocal performances ever

No one. Not Conway Twirtty, not Ray Charles. Nobody sings this song like Don Gibson.
Don Gibson was one hell of a song writter and one great country soel singer.....and Marvin could play the shit out of that guitar....if anyone know's what kind of guitar Marvin's playing I'd sure like to know.....
2:12 - 2:39 is sublime.
@7danalee +
Well said i agree..
I can't.
C'était la face B de "Oh Lonesome Me", écrite et enregistrée en Décembre 1957 par Don Gibson avec Chet Atkins, produite pour RCA Victor à Nashville
His speaking voice sounds so different to his singing.
Dont know if anyone else has sang this song . lol
One of the first songs I remember when I was a child, but Elvis' version trumps them all. He took this song and literally made it his own!!!!!
7danalee, do you remember how many different artists recorded this? Seems as though I heard over 700.
The drummer in this video, is Luce, from Kent, UK. Tough bastard to get a pint out of!!!! hahahahahahahahaha
It's tough to out do an original no matter how it's diced!!!
Tremendous performance - so much better than 1960s version. Bobby just kills it on guitar - 2nd name?
Don''t you mean Marvin Lanier on guitar?
Did he write any songs for George Morgan that maybe Little Roy Wiggins was playing the steel guitar?
is it originl song by uncle Don Gibson. who was first real original song ?.
Ok banget
You are correct, just a little later on, enough to say a different place and a different time. Hank had the same influence as Jimmie Rogers.....No way to measure Hank's contribution to the music we hear today....He was awesome.....
@waln492 Ray Charles?
PEGGY FROM RANLO??????/ AND CHURCH
I believe ole Don was a little Tipsy here, just saying
MAYBE THE WHOLE BAND TOO HEY,,,,
Anybody know what kind of guitar that Marvin is playing?
yes it's custom made guitar
Yes my father had all his guitars made special.
@waln492 Ray Charles
@blueslady77 Elvis is my favourite singer! He is amazing! But what is wrong with this song?
J
Great songwriter. I do prefer Solomon Burkes version to all others though.
May have wrote this great song but he also crucifies it .
