He should have been in both places a lot sooner than he was a lot of people with a lot less talent than he had got in sooner than he did which was just not right
This song just ripped my heart out, threw it down, stomped it into the ground, poured gasoline on it and lit it on fire. 😭 It's a beautiful, outstanding song, though. 😄
One of the great songwriters and a very fine singer. This song has been immortal...recorded by such stars as Ray Charles and many more. These Jordanaires, who also backed up Elvis in the early years, are great too. Hal David helped write a great one for Don, recorded in 61, called Sea of Heartbreak. It was a monster hit when we were youngsters. I still love it to day!
Unbelievably, this classic song by Don only made it to the #7 spot in the Billboard Country charts in 1958. All I can say is that there must have been a hell of a lot of good records out at that time because to my way of thinking, this has #1 written all over it.
tarquin45, just seen this one mate, In 1958 I was 19yrs, there was so much great music for those times. Buddy holly etc. I'm still playing now and feel a bit sorry for the latecomers who listen to (What I think is) Crappy music you can find me on youtube, and maybe "Whatever happened to Saturday night" Gib Williamson,,,, Thanks
Worked with him once at a little school near Springfield Mo. There was a storm that night and all the musicians let go of their electric instruments when a lighting bolt struck something nearby and the lights flickered. I was singing and had a hold of a metal mike stand. I turned loose of it, but we were doing Amazing Grace and we never missed a beat. fun memories
The first song I heard from Don Gibson was sea of heartbreak and have been a big fan ever since .The Ray Charles I can stop loving you is by far the best . Every song Ray sang had that magic quality .Ray was a genius.
If by out of fashion you mean Don isn't grabbing his johnson and hollering about his bitches and his bling...well...sir...I will just stick to out of fashion. Same goes for the stupid talentless garbage coming out of Nashville these days. And BTW..a whole lot will agree with me..not that it matters.
Isn't that T. Tommy Cutrer that introduced the song? He has a GREAT bass voice, himself. Loved him when I was a little girl and knew him so much. That was in the early to mid-50s, btw.
AWESOME! There will never be another chorus the likes of The Jordanaires. So grateful to see this clip. Nice that T.Tommy asked the group to come forward for this performance. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing! :D
True country and western music, as it was once called. I like the way Gibson sings his song. He toys with the melody a bit and his phrasing is fantastic. Normally, I like the Jordonaires, but could have done without their solo. I can still appreciate Ray's version, but the two can't be compared - apples and oranges.
I just love it! And because of Don Gibson WHO wrote this song, thanks Don (IF you can read youtube comments). Wonderful country song it is! Pity that I cannot see the video (because of this app?).
I think Don is playing a Gibson "L-5" . The beautiful guitar fills in the backround played by Gene Sloan are played on a super 400 ,which is like an L-5, but with a cutaway and electronics. This is at a time when music, guitars ,and amplifiers were at the top of their game.
@@jimmybusk Don Gibson is playing a Super 400, not an L-5. btw, never heard of Gene Slone. I was looking to catch a glimpse of Grady Martin, but it wasn't Grady. I was wondering who was playing all those guitar fills. Thanks.

Some folks want to believe that this song is Arthurs, but until I see it in black and white...written on a napkin with beer stains on it...Don Gibson wrote the song!
never forget he wrote this great song along with a lot more hits. Terribly underrated!!!!!
I've just now discovered that!!
He's in the "Songwriters Hall Of Fame " and "Country Music Hall Of Fame".
He should have been in both places a lot sooner than he was a lot of people with a lot less talent than he had got in sooner than he did which was just not right

Yea! You wax eloquent with the English language.
Absolutely, nailed it!
There's zero doubt that music was far, far superior back then.
Baron Evola, nice to see you here. I appreciate the presence of your kind here.
Nostalgia is a seductive liar.
@@TheSaltydog07 Today's music sucks and has been in a downward spiral since the 60s. Hardly an arguable point.

After Elvis started using the Jordanaires, every star wanted them. They been on every major hit record for years.
Don was brilliant at songwriting and a great country singer.❤️❤️❤️❤️
This was truly a great song. But was not written by Don.
this was my wifes and my song from the start in 1961. we have been married for 59 years now. still going
True country music, oh bring it back.
One of the all time great performances
Yep.
my wife and my favprite song. this has been our song for going on 59 years. always snuggle when we dance to it
The Jordanaires are icing on the cake. ❤❤❤
One of my Daddy's favorite songs. God rest his Soul. One of mine now too.
How the hell do you down vote the guy that wrote the song? He is not using a bunch of studio mixer crap, pure singing clear and raw.
Some people would repaint the Sistine Chapel ceiling with a roller.

Well, this was the B-side to "Oh, Lonesome Me", which went to #1.Tough for B-sides to reach #1
All music back then was good in like now sadley

Don is a legend.
57-60 there was a lot of good music
I grew up listening to his great hit songs. Don Gibson is a piece of the American Pie. A true pillar in his fans life..
Don Gibson I always though under promoted in the US, but in Australia we played his music a squillion time.
This special song with its many 'memories' will live on FOREVER!!!

RAY CHARLES ha sido el mejor intérprete de la historia. Su versión de este tema, junto a THE RAELETTS, es la número UNO de todas las que se han hecho
