My grandpa Leo passed away last night at the very blessed age of 104 years...he loved Hank Williams and I'd always play his music when I'd visit. God be with you Grandpa ❤️🙏 I love you and will think of you 😘 till we meet again ❤
Elizabeth pelland I'm so sorry for your loss. 104 is amazing ❤ . Sending hugs and prayers from my family to yours. My Gramps passed at 88 . This was our song we listened together.
I'm Mexican American. I didn't grow up listening to old country music. But the first time I heard this song, I felt the grief and pain that has no borders or boundaries.
America has a rich cultural. The beauty of our country is that we can share it if we all buy in. My father was born in Texas and the Mexican and German influences in the music he grew up in follow me today.
@@jamessmith080 I am. I just love listening to older music no matter what it is about. I used to relate to this song but I'm good now. And I am a good country music lover. Love the style of country music
Elvis stated this is the saddest and loneliest song he had ever heard. If you know the words and LISTEN. And, If you have a good and deep heart, it should hit you the same way. May the good Lord be blessing you right now Hank. And, Thank You Jesus for Hank WIlliams Sr...
Loneliness is part of the human condition that we all struggle with to some degree. This song conveys that emotion as beautifully and truly as possible.
@@shirleys765 Thanks. Also, the studio musicians did a beautiful job on this one. Hank was prolific in the five years he was on the country music stage writing about 150. songs. He was born with spina bifida and knew sadness.
Hey Big Guy, Would you tell me anything about your country's conflict? I'm 62 year's old and I can't make head's nor tails out of it especially with our country's talking head's bought and paid for by the ones we dare not talk about.... My uncle Willie was KIA in Germany in 1945 shortly before WWII ended, he was 21 year's old.... And over the year's I've read that US General's serving in that war lamented that we/America may have been on the wrong side of that war.... I have concluded that most war's are some rich man's trick as they play both side's and collect the spoils.... Evil, satanic individuals with bloodlines traceable to the "falling ones".... Nephilim I understand.... And just my humble opinion and having little education in regards to history and most other subject matter.... And I apoligise as I know I'm light-years out of context here.... I saw Hank Williams Jr. In concert a couple time's in the eighties, he put on great shows albeit in one show he was quiet "juiced up" as was the rest of us... Funny I may never forget him telling the audience and I quote he said "folk's you know I spent the first nine month's of my life trying to get out of the womb" and folk's I want you to know that since I was about 15 "I've spent the rest of my life trying to get back in there".... He lamented all the silly-ass Hank Williams imitators out there -his words- and said "tonight you'll know the Real Hank Williams Jr. or something close to that.... I think my friend's and I would vote HWJ for president if given the chance, he'd probably take Vlad and some more world leaders fishing out on some big lake and end all the goophy war's via sheer comeraderie, trust and solidarity.... Peace young Brother....❤❤❤
My beautiful Mother was a drummer she did Hank,CCR, Patsy Cline and others but Hank was her favorite. She raised 6 children Had a spotless home, was a wonderful cook and lived to be 83. Every Hank song reminds us of Mom but this song is the one that is felt so deep in the heart . Shortly after she passed this song, no kidding came on the radio. My jaw hit the floor... NO WAY I haven't heard it for decades. I havent stopped crying Im both sad and happy because I know Mom requested this song so I would know she's still here. We miss you Mom you go Honky Tonkin until we see you again. I'm still carrying my jaw around..... Thanks Hank for what you gave to Mom. You left us too soon...... Love you Mom
Ironically, drums were not allowed in country music in Hank Williams day. The guitarist would loosen the low "E" string and pluck it slowly to make it sound like a bass drum.
My Dad loved Hank Williams. A good memory from my childhood is watching the movie about Hank’s Life with my Dad. My Dad was an alcoholic, just like Hank. I’m 70 years old now, but this song still brings a tear to my eye. In a good way.
Im from South Africa and i grew up with Hank Williams music since i was 6 years old .Im 56 yrs young now and still cant get enough of Hank Williams music .One day we will meet and i will tell Hank Williams myself what a LEGEND he is .
this is a man that wrote most of his songs by himself, and made a lot of them well know. a legend never dies, just like its sounds like he is singing straight to you and me.
I was at this time 1949 courting the girl I later married after 7 years, those beautiful innocent days, we listened to music, danced with families and friends, still remember those younger days, now I wish she was still with me. RIP. Darling.
i’m 24 going back in time appreciating music reading comments of everyone who was young back then. reading their memories and cherishing their stories. this comment really just hit me and made me feel so sad. prayers for you and god rest your beautiful angel ❤️
DuckTalesWooHoo1987 I am very fond of it myself. Hanks songs are simple yet so elegant and he had to be an old soul to have such world weary blues as a man in his 20s.
@@mattbastubee5255 Yeah to think that he only lived 29 years is ridiculous when you look at how much he contributed to the shaping of an entire genre. Not only that but how influential he has been across multiple genres. Everyone from jazz to rock to blues to country all love him and cover his music to this day. He influenced geniuses like Ray Charles even.
My granddaddy used to sing this song to me when I was about four or five years old. One of my first and few many memories I shared with him until he was called home in ‘06. I listen to this song because it makes me feel closer to him.
The Hillbilly Shakespeare could melt the coldest heart with his lyrical brilliance. The genius of being a master song writer is having the ability to tug at the heart strings..nobody did it better than Hank Williams..
My husband just passed away 5/20/22, my heart is in pieces. This is how I feel without him, liver disease sucks the life out of the rest of the organs. I love you babe and I miss you so much already.
My husband was a professional musician he played guitar. He died last month. He loved this song so much he would play and sing it for me. I believe he thought the last verse was one of the most beautiful ever written. I never thought it would be my destiny to sit alone and cry but that's my fate. For now I keeping looking for that falling star.
Hello David, I'm getting a bit stronger every day. I still have some that I can't believe he's gone. I'm trying to be positive but it's hard. They're having a celebration for Robert in December at a club that still hosts live bands. They've gotten the most popular radio DJ to host it. There are going to be 4 bands that Robert was in. Each one will be doing the music that they wrote and recorded. They are trying to get as many of the original members as possible to perform. In between each set they'll be showing videos of other projects he was involved in. He was with Mitch Ryder for 19 years while still pursuing his own music. He was considered one of the best lead guitarists to come out of Detroit. As I now have all of the memorabilia and photos, I've been going through 50 years of his life. I get sad but I realize he had an incredible life. More importantly he had fun. I'm glad I got to be with such an amazing man for 27 years. He was not only talented, but gifted. He played with Chuck Berry when he was 17. He went on to tour the world. He loved sharing his music with everyone, he taught guitar for many years. One of his students has gone on to reach the level of stardom that most musicians dream of. I'll be ok, thanks for asking.
@@marvintownsend9174 Thank You for asking. I'm going through hundreds of photos and memorabilia from a 50 year career. He didn't throw anything away but didn't file everything. I found dozens of videos and recordings. He was a far bigger " star " than I realized. We hooked up in the last half of his life. As I look through the items I realize how humble he was but he knew he was blessed with a gift. When Mitch Ryder would open for a huge band many of the musicians would steal a glance at the opening band. Mitch can still sing his butt off. He always had a talented backing band but Robert stood out. Inevitably he would be approached by the headliner's band and became friends with most. He would jam with many. I could list them but it would take too long. A couple you probably know are SRV, Fleetwood Mac, Steve Earle, Doyle Bramhall, Suzi Quatro, Kid Rock, Don Was, and on and on. I don't know why I'm telling you this. I guess it's because he didn't brag about it. I wish I could talk to him about some of his experiences. As fun as that all sounds it's not what I miss. I miss the man who was my best friend. I had the first birthday without him last month. In 2 days I'm facing the first Thanksgiving alone. I know Christmas will be rough as well. My life goes on for some reason. Maybe it's to share his memories with the people who attend the celebration of his life next month. I have to keep pushing ahead and organize the items I will share with his fans and friends. I just need to stop thinking about things like asking him if we need butter at the market. I'm half now and it's hard.
I was born just up the road from where Hank Williams was born in South Alabama. Hank Williams still has a big influence here. Interstate 65 that runs through Butler county was designated as the Hank Williams Lost Highway by the state of Alabama sometime back. I recently met a gentleman and his wife from Great Britain that were passing through here not too long ago heading up to Montgomery to visit Hank Williams grave. He told me that he grew up hearing Hank Williams music and his dad and his Grandfather were huge Hank Williams fans. Strange how a man that died at the age of 29, right at 70 years ago, still has such a huge fan base, with music that people can relate to, that was written mostly by himself. Hank left this world way too early. But, he left a mark that will NEVER be forgotten or go away.
Carl....We moved to Chapman in 1967 and lived there until 1975...Daddy work for UC and we lived close to the mill. Will never forget Hank's cousin, a forklift driver at the mill coming up to the house to play Mr. William's songs for dad and his friends while they might have had a few toddies....Thanks for your post
I’m 16 years old and this song hits harder than anything I’ve ever heard before. I can really relate to the lyrics. I’ve found a new passion in Hank Williams.
That's a tough question. Because there are so many dozens and dozens of great country artists. Some are just a little more humorous, some a little bit more rock some a little bit more romantic etc Why not try maybe some Johnny Cash, (great traditional country), Creedence Clearwater Revival and Leonard Skinner, (a slight bit more rock). When you seek their music look for there "greatest hits". That way you will hear the best they have done. Enjoy my friend
My grandfather passed away today...he made me listen to all of Hank Williams Jr. ..Sr...all the time and I hated it but I am glad that he left me with a memory that I will never forget :-(
Vivid, abstract, poetic lyrics and images swirling within a rural, southern funeral dirge. As if Van Gogh had picked up a pencil and guitar instead of a brush. This is the blues on another level. I've never heard anything that comes close to this American masterpiece.
So beautifully stated, Mr. Brown. I sing at country festivals around my hometown (some videos are here ), and love to do Hank songs. This one is next on my list.
its conciseness of words filled w/ such density is the sign of a poet. absolutely nothing wasted & allows the listener to feel in blanks. I think frost when I hear this, but i get where you're going w/ van gogh... it is strong, but imo some american artist have reached the same type of heights. several of dylans & cash's best (who both were strongly influenced by hank) reach the same areas. ive often thought hendrix in wind cries mary also gets close to this. van morrison. or the doors, crystal ship..... one thing id assume we'd agree on, i hope more young people dig into hanks stuff. hes a great influence to listen to if one is trying to create quality.
I love Hank Williams. I'm an Englishwoman living in UK 🇬🇧 Midlands. My dad used to play Hank's records from late 50's so grew up listening to this great country singer poet. To have a better song Hank himself would have to come down from heaven and play a guitar made by angles. And even then people would still argue over such was better
Please take a listen to Al Greens cover of this incredible song, and speaking of heartbreak songs, "how can you mend a broken heart " also by Al Green live is something special.

Every musician ive heard talk of hank has such high regard and often their favorite no matter what genre of music they play. Recently heard bob weir of the grateful dead say hank was one his favs then he quoted some of these lyrics
Brother, I'm a Blond/Blue American country boy. But I grew up with and served in the military with many Mexican Americans. They were my Brothers. But we are not talking about race or countries or cultures. We are talking about the HEART of a human being. And you must have a great heart to hear what Hank Williams has relayed here. May the good Lord God Bless you and your family.
JohnnyRebKy-----The demons that killed Hank Williams were the same problems that gave him such " passion , soul , feeling , sadness , " . Some other country singers such as George Jones and Hank Snow carried a lot of pain as well , but were fortunate to be healthier . There were other country singers such as Lefty Frizzle who were self destructive . The bluegrass singers Carter Stanley and Keith Whitley followed a similar path . The white blues singer/ guitar player / harmonica player , Alan " Blind Eye " Wilson of the blues band , Canned Heat , fit in a similar category .
Bill Eddy Hank was going to quit . Like other singers in the future they were worth more money after death than they ever were alive. I’ve never totally bought the explanation of his death and apparently Hank Jr doesn’t either. It was reported he was badly bruised as if he had been beaten. We will never know but I have serious questions about it. If he was going to quit that meant a lot of money lost for many people. Money is a root of all evil...next to Audrey
Listening to this and thinking of my dad who died 7 weeks ago from covid 19. Feeling alone is this world where people don't seem to understand. Thinking of my dad's steel guitar and wishing I could learn to play it.
You're not alone. You can learn to play the steele and I would highly reccomend it. My dad plays it as well and I intend to do the same thing, in order to preserve that beautiful sound.
Loneliness is an experience that separates me from reality...... there is no comfort.....nothing..... unbearable........soaked in a misunderstood misery....... hope is reserved for others and beyond my capacity to fathom.....but then suddenly I can breathe for a moment
Just watched the episode about Hank Williams that Ken Burns did in his Country Music documentary series and the way he told his story was just amazing. Thank you Ken Burns!!!
Just watched that episode last night, so good, as is the whole series. Found myself playing a few Hank songs out on the deck tonight in memory to Hank.
As a kid My Father and I would Spend the Summer in Alabama ,My Grandfather loved Hank Williams sometimes we would run into racism because we were Black, but My Grandfather was known in the town so when they would find out that we were his family they would leave us alone . I loved the South and learned to love Hank Williams 🤗🤗🤗
@@prudentialsecurity9300thank you for looking past the few dickheads we have down here. Most of us love you no matter what color you are. We’re all brothers and sisters, we’re all in this together. And nothing brings us closer than good music, and ofc your overwhelmingly positive world view. The only way to fight racism is with love.
Hank was not just a great singer. He was a great songwriter. Some of the things that flowed from his hand to paper were truly heart wrenching and ached of life's pains. Hank was a master at putting pain and heartbreak into a song and the fact that he suffered through both helped his cause in making such great music. The fact he could pour all that emotion into a less than 3 minute song is just amazing.
@James Logan A Teardrop on a Rose is probably my favorite. I really love the songs 6 More Miles to the Graveyard, The Funeral,The Log Train,Alone and Forsaken, I love his big songs I really do but these songs that not many people know or even got radio play really show Hanks angst and grit and in many ways his real artistry. I am sure people will mention many more and without doubt they will be right on but you dig for his nuggets and that to me is where you'll find the real Hank Williams.
@James Logan I am from Branford,Ct. I love music. I listen to it about 13 to 15 hours a day. I own about 2,000 cds. I must admit there are types of jazz that do put me to sleep but I do like most music. Today's music is not something I am enamored with maybe because I was born in 66 or maybe I listened to the greatest decade of music which was the 70s. Although if I am to be honest 65 to 75 might be the best decade. Anyhoo I do love music and I listen to it all day especially during the day as there is garbage on tv so I listen to music and I really do enjoy watching reactors as well. Especially Elizabeth Zharoff,Doug Helvering,Janet Tabaka, Julia Nilon,Beth Roars, Lolli Wren and there are others that my brain can't think of at the moment. But in the end sometimes it is just best to lay back and put on Pink Floyd and let Dave Gilmour take your soul to heaven.
@James Logan If its on the phone then I think I do which I do not use due to my eyes. My doctor won't let me use it for anything even though I love playing games and sometimes the occasional Firefly episode or whatever Comcast has. I just had my right eye fixed and on February 1st they will then fix my left eye so fun times still ahead for this Irish cowboy. I am sadly stuck using a desktop which is fine because I have a sweet new massive monitor but soon I'll be relegated to CDs for awhile. So much fun ahead for me. Happy Happy Joy Joy.
Here in the year 2020 and still nobody has even reached 1% of this man’s talent. Greatest singer and songwriter across all music genres; There will never be another Hank.
@@FondaLynn Great stuff, we lived in Southern NJ . As a kid, my dad would play. Hank Williams, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Ole Blue Eyes, Dean, and the Big Bands!!!! As I got older. I would always say, mom, what the heck, Pop liked them all!
@LEE ZOLO...Right there with you , I understand. Ain't much but would like for you to know... from a cowboy to another. You will be alright, in time. Live for him live for yourself and forgive him. Don't ask why he did what he did. You'll just be like a dog chasing his tail in a circle. Right here , people care stranger or cowboy. Hope you don't go though it again like I did more then twice. Ride straight ahead...
As a kid born in the early sixties ( 1961 ) I grew up listening to this and the old school country, I have flash backs to my childhood every time I hear these songs, better times. I have these on the original vinyl albums and wouldn't sell them for any amount. Gold !
That's cool. Born in '57. When I was little we always went to grandparents on Saturday night for supper(wasn't called dinner back then). After supper grandad turned old B&W tv on. We watched Porter Wagoner(Dolly was a pup), Buck Owens and THE GRAND OLE OPRY. Great back in the day days.
Thanks to Ken Burns documentary “Country Music” I learned all about Hank Williams and heard this song for the first time in my entire life. I woke up this morning with this beautiful song in my head and started to cry. My dear cat just died and all the birds she used to watch outside my windows are making me so sad. And I see here it was recorded on my birthday, makes it even more special.
Isn't it funny how we just wake up with a song in our head that we've never heard of haven't heard of thought about in ages? This morning I woke with the song" Catfish John in my head. So of coure, I had to Google and listen. Then I run on to you, who had a similar experience 4 days ago. I think Jesus is trying to tell us something. I was done home just after dark about an hour ago. And the moon was doing some very strange things. Then I hear this song, talking about the moon just went behind a cloud....eyes to the sky and may God watch over you.
I was listening to this song every night at 5 years old with my too 2 sisters because my brother we loved so much went to Vietnam. And we missed him so much. My Dad and Mama introduced me to Mr Hank Williams.
@Harry Jackson He didn't steal this song frome Tee Tot, but what he did do was steal his style and combine it with the style of other various country singers. There's only one or two songs he really stole and this is not one of them
I've never understood why people like to listen to sad songs when they drink, but damned if I ain't drunk & enjoying this song. I love the way his voice matches the guitar. Its beautiful in its simplicity. Just perfect.
The 3 thousand plus people who gave this song a thumbs down cannot have a heart or soul. This is easily, the very best song ever written and performed!
As a kid in Boulder Western Australia, I used to listen to his music over a radio station called 6KG.He was and still is my favourite country singer.Country blues really. He like Elvis can be referred to just by one name. There is only one Hank, the rest are only related to him.Riding off his coat tails.
Honestly hank 3 though doesnt try to ride the coat tails the way Jr does. 3 seems to just do his own thing and enjoys making hos own music for the sake of genuinely liking to make and play music he just happens to be called hank. And 3 could have really milked his granddads name if he wanted considering how similar his voice sounds to his granddad
The melodies of Hank Williams are spectacular. You can really feel the pain of heartache in his voice. These tones are not made up, you actually got to feel that emotion to sing like that!
This man could not only write a sad song but the saddest song ever written, when you can do that then your going to hit a nerve in every body on earth wether they want to admit it or not, R.I.P. Mr. Hank Williams the 1st number 1.
Robert a Cayo sr it's hard to pick between him and George Jones for me both amazing country artist they will never be any one else able to fill either of there shoes
My husband had a beautiful voice. This was one of my favorite songs. He learned to play it and sing it and I must say it was prettier than when Hank Williams did it.
Hank was the epitome of what country music is the first one of the absolute best and this song is the epitome of loneliness, heartbreak and sorrow! RIP HANK WILLIAMS SR.
My mama daddy was separated all their life but they still loved each other and this is one of their songs and I'm 72 years old and this came across my mind right now thank you for having this so long here and thank you for being the Entertainer you are thank you very much
I grew up on rock n roll in the 60s, and never had much taste for contemporary country music, until I started hearing the old guard stuff like Hank... even as a old rocker from way back, I can appreciate the pure and simple beauty of this, such a stark and spare arrangement, but the result is a poetic and raw and gorgeous piece of music. Thanks for making this gem available.
Wow, you sound just like me. I grew up in the 60’s myself. Some of the best music….ever. I started enjoying this old twangy country music about 15 years ago! My dad’s side of the family always played country music when I would go over to visit. I never understood then, but I do now!
I couldn't have stated those feelings/thoughts any better. It's as if you read my mind. My dad used to listen to this stuff and I'd smugly tell him how bad it was. I wish he was here today so I could tell him how wrong I was. Now after nearly two decades of listening there's no other music I would rather listen to than country and/or Americana. I still dig my hard rock ala Zeppelin, Deep Purple etc but now that I'm old I need the soothing effects of music like this so much more than I need to be stimulated to action.
Yeah old country has that effect on people Hank was the greatest. Have you ever checked out Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys? They had a style that was ahead of anyone else at the time.
I grew up in the big city and mostly listened to pop and rock growing up, but I fondly remember enjoying a few country songs...and this one most of all. It struck a deep chord in me 60 years ago that resonates to this very day.
Glad I watched the PBS Special "Country Music" Cause I recognized a lot of the stars before they were introduced on the screen. Having listened and read about so many of the artists, since I was a kid, in the 60's.
Im sorry brother. This song draws all who have suffered through shit, but im happy in the end no matter what. You have delt with the toughest shit, keep on fighting

Beautiful sincere song. He was a voice for those who didn’t sing. He had a hard life, but made lots of people happy. Here’s to the great Hank Williams. Hello from Ireland.
he is the only man i can think of that can truly be accredited as the creator of an entire genre. Not a sub genre. THE country music genre is his. and we are all lessor imitations of the original conduit of God's music. Country was born in him, and part of it died with him.
This song dedicated to my beloved dog who just died prematurely. She was independent and loved the woods. She only came out at night and was white, so I named her Ghost. I fed her for four years and try to keep her, but she loved her independence so she would scale the fence. I love you Ghost....RIP.
RIP Ghost, she will wait for you. And one day, many decades from hence, you will see her. And you will both be the most independent souls there ever could be, together.

Ironically, drums were not allowed in country music in Hank Williams day. The guitarist would loosen the low "E" string and pluck it slowly to make it sound like a bass drum.

Hello Susan

So sorry for your lost! How are you feeling right now
Hello David, I'm getting a bit stronger every day.

JohnnyRebKy ...A whole lot more beautiful, heartfelt melodies!
souls like his never get that much time...one of the sad mysteries of life.

I’m 68 and just getting into Mr. Williams music. Just beautiful and soulful songs sung by a man with feeling. I had no idea that he was this great.
Hank was not just a great singer. He was a great songwriter. Some of the things
that flowed from his hand to paper were truly heart wrenching and ached of life's
pains. Hank was a master at putting pain and heartbreak into a song and the fact
that he suffered through both helped his cause in making such great music. The fact
he could pour all that emotion into a less than 3 minute song is just amazing.
@James Logan A Teardrop on a Rose is probably my favorite. I really love the songs 6 More Miles to the Graveyard,
The Funeral,The Log Train,Alone and Forsaken, I love his big songs I really do but these songs that not many people
know or even got radio play really show Hanks angst and grit and in many ways his real artistry. I am sure people will
mention many more and without doubt they will be right on but you dig for his nuggets and that to me is where you'll
find the real Hank Williams.
@James Logan I am from Branford,Ct. I love music. I listen to it about 13 to 15 hours a day. I own about
2,000 cds. I must admit there are types of jazz that do put me to sleep but I do like most music. Today's
music is not something I am enamored with maybe because I was born in 66 or maybe I listened to the
greatest decade of music which was the 70s. Although if I am to be honest 65 to 75 might be the best decade.
Anyhoo I do love music and I listen to it all day especially during the day as there is garbage on tv so I listen to
music and I really do enjoy watching reactors as well. Especially Elizabeth Zharoff,Doug Helvering,Janet Tabaka,
Julia Nilon,Beth Roars, Lolli Wren and there are others that my brain can't think of at the moment. But in the end
sometimes it is just best to lay back and put on Pink Floyd and let Dave Gilmour take your soul to heaven.
@James Logan If its on the phone then I think I do which I do not use due to my eyes. My doctor won't let
me use it for anything even though I love playing games and sometimes the occasional Firefly episode or
whatever Comcast has. I just had my right eye fixed and on February 1st they will then fix my left eye so fun
times still ahead for this Irish cowboy. I am sadly stuck using a desktop which is fine because I have a sweet
new massive monitor but soon I'll be relegated to CDs for awhile. So much fun ahead for me. Happy Happy

Don't ask why he did what he did. You'll just be like a dog chasing his tail in a circle. Right here , people care stranger or cowboy. Hope you don't go though it again like I did more then twice. Ride straight ahead...
Spooky bro was just listening to this and got a thumbs up....
I’m truly sorry for your loss. I’m sure that your best friend was a good guy.
Laura & Lewis Lockwood & he had a heart of gold. Thank you for your kind words. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about him.
I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. My brother in law did the same. Heartbreaking..gentle hugs my friend
He ,is was. great
Julie Cleveland Sincerest condolences on the loss of your cat.
You can just feel Hanks oft-broken heart in the words of his songs. He could sure sing what a lot of folks felt in those situations.
Sorry about the loss of your cat, pets are so dear to us.
It’s authentic - it’s beautiful - it’s American to the bone! Who today can even come close. He was an American genius.
Luke Bryan lol
The Hilbilly Shakespear son...
"It's American to the bone."
I don't think I've ever agreed with a statement more than this one.
JUST RAW GOD GIVEN TALENT WITHOUT THE
ELECTRONIC TRACKS AND FAKE STUFF
His son is pretty good too now:)
This song is so timeless, it still chokes me up many decades later.
In my opipnon...the greatest country song ever written...lyrics are amazing and have so many layers of meaning....incredible.
back when the nights were truly lonely, and wonderful
I used to sing this song when I was a kid out in the hayfields by myself ( along with some of his other hits)--such good memories.
I was listening to this song every night at 5 years old with my too 2 sisters because my brother we loved so much went to Vietnam. And we missed him so much. My Dad and Mama introduced me to Mr
Hank Williams.
Elvis said this is the saddest song he heard in his life
He never lived to hear anything by Radiohead though!!
@@Kianmur 💯💯😂😂😂
Guess he’s never heard of a little band called Bread.
Thanks! I would say that george jones' "he stopped loving her today," has got to be in the top ten saddest songs. what do you think?
I was born in1953, loved Elvis! My Parents were wonderful people, they loved Elvis and I grew up listening to this music! I loved it!
God we miss you Hank...Singing up in Heaven now...and my Mother has front row seating..
You will never be replaced...
Uhhju
I mean let’s face it this IS the best country song to ever face the earth.
It's certainly one of my favorites.
It's my favorite song of all time and the rest of the songs just have to compete for a distant second.
Hank was something else
Certainly the saddest!
@Harry Jackson He didn't steal this song frome Tee Tot, but what he did do was steal his style and combine it with the style of other various country singers. There's only one or two songs he really stole and this is not one of them
"The silence of a fallen star lights up a purple sky"... probably my favorite lyric of all time!
I've never understood why people like to listen to sad songs when they drink, but damned if I ain't drunk & enjoying this song. I love the way his voice matches the guitar. Its beautiful in its simplicity. Just perfect.
Yea cant go wrong with a nice wiskey and some hank williams.
Did your name come from con-air?
Cuz
Absolutely 💯 %!
The lyrics are poetic beauty. "The silence of a falling star, lights up a purple sky ... "
So sad birds are silent and suicidal.
❤
Hank could relate to poor people, no man will ever fill his shoes in country music.
His grandson, Hank III
George Jones 😉
And now This fricking world Is now full of Rich Leftist damn "musicians"

Hank Williams is the greatest singer/songwriter of all time. Can never be duplicated.
This is my song, since my wife died in 2021. Miss her terribly. Always will.
Saddest song I have ever had the privilege of listening to. Thank you Hank. People need to hear this.
No Country artist dead or alive can touch Hank
You either like Ol Hank or you're wrong.
Willie Nelson can
I come here when I’m at my lowest. Thanks Hank. You are my medicine sometimes
Hello Shonna, how are you doing today.?
I had a friend who was homeless most of his life, he could sing this song with his guitar and sounded so good
The 3 thousand plus people who gave this song a thumbs down cannot have a heart or soul. This is easily, the very best song ever written and performed!
How are you doing dear?
I totally agree,a most beautiful song and definitely the best song ever written
They should have their ears amputated.
No doubt about it! He was special!!!
Another Great Job on a beautiful old hymn. Great rendition! God's Blessings on all who had to do with its production. Their families as well!
This man could not only write a sad song but the saddest song ever written, when you can do that then your going to hit a nerve in every body on earth wether they want to admit it or not, R.I.P. Mr. Hank Williams the 1st number 1.
Almost 70 years old and still one of the greatest songs of all times.

Mom, I miss you. I will always think of you when I hear this. I hope you are in peace with Dad.
😢 oh goodness I understand I miss my parents too even at my age . Mom and dad are always the best
My husband had a beautiful voice. This was one of my favorite songs. He learned to play it and sing it and I must say it was prettier than when Hank Williams did it.
My mom and I watched the Hank Williams Biography in the 70's and this is my favorite song. What a great songwriter and so so troubled. RIP HW.
His such an amazing singer
How are you Jeanette?
He was in a lot of pain.
Hello 👋 Jeanette,
How are you doing hope your having a wonderful holidays over there with you and your family
Hank was the epitome of what country music is the first one of the absolute best and this song is the epitome of loneliness, heartbreak and sorrow! RIP HANK WILLIAMS SR.
What a beautiful voice good memories I love this song. How are you Abbie ?
Hahaha. People will always remember you for something. How your day been?
Hi 👋
Hello 👋 Abbie,
How are you doing hope your having a wonderful holidays over there with you and your family
The best country music is made by dimming the lights, strumming the guitar, and making believe Hank Williams never died.
My mama daddy was separated all their life but they still loved each other and this is one of their songs and I'm 72 years old and this came across my mind right now thank you for having this so long here and thank you for being the Entertainer you are thank you very much
I've heard this song a hundred times. But I never listened to the lyrics until now. This is poetry.
I've know this song for years and I'm only 17 and I swear by these words...my kids will grow up on this
Hello how are you doing today?
I grew up in the big city and mostly listened to pop and rock growing up, but I fondly remember enjoying a few country songs...and this one most of all. It struck a deep chord in me 60 years ago that resonates to this very day.
Cant believe it was recorded in 1949 and its 2019. It still rings true.
Real country, real music. Old time radio hits.
Glad I watched the PBS Special "Country Music" Cause I recognized a lot of the stars before they were introduced on the screen. Having listened and read about so many of the artists, since I was a kid, in the 60's.
I am 14 and i grew up listening to old country and rock n roll...but this man...he created them both.
Lost my son in 2003, my wife in 2015 and my dog 2017, this is my song!
Im sorry brother. This song draws all who have suffered through shit, but im happy in the end no matter what. You have delt with the toughest shit, keep on fighting

You're in my thoughts and prayers brother. I like to sing this song on karaoke. It reminds me of my late father. When I sing it, it feels like he's right there with me.
I am 66 and my parents loved this song! Mom played the guitar and sang this song! Oh, I love when I grew up! God Bless and be with you!

This is such a beautiful and heart-wrenching song and I love singing it in performance. It takes all my strength not to cry.
I’ve been listening to this song for my entire life. I believe it’s the best country song ever recorded.
Hello beautiful lady
How are you doing dear?
Beautiful sincere song. He was a voice for those who didn’t sing. He had a hard life, but made lots of people happy. Here’s to the great Hank Williams. Hello from Ireland.
Hank Sr. IMO had much in common with Van Morrison and Shane MacGowan....

The true king of country music.
Hey how are you doing..?
he is the only man i can think of that can truly be accredited as the creator of an entire genre.
@@akshaykumarjha9136 Thanks for the kind thoughts. They say time heals when someone you love dies. But not always the case. She died 2 months ago, but to me it feels as if she died yesterday......
@@sananto6896 I know your pain, it will never go away, just become bearable. You will go on with your life but every now and then the emotions will come back pouring like it happened right now. Believe it is better to feel hurt than to feel like you forgot her. What comes into this world must also leave and that is the one true constant of life. Keep her in your memories, that's the best you can do for a loved one.
My condolences. She'll be waiting for you at the bridge, to which you'll both cross together.
@@woody8577 ...thank you....I had pets before but not really close to them. I had no clue that people and animals can become so close. Now I care as much for animals as for people. Or maybe care more for animals. It is amazing how Ghost changed my life.
In 19and68 I went off Vietnam. I left my girl behind and we made a vow we would dance to this this song when I came home.
But she left me for a friend of ours...So I still wait for my dance to bring me home...
Thank you for your service
I thank you too
This gave me chills.
bob, he was no friend of yours because friends don't do that to friends and shame on your girlfriend she was a selfish bitch. But anyway thant you so much for your military service. Semper fi.
This song gives you chills can make a tear drop fall from your eye, you can really feel those lyrics. No one was more real and honest than Hank, love and respect him forever for all he did.
My buddy, Al, used to break into this one on the players bus on trips to away football games, almost 60 years ago . Coach used to yell to keep it down, but not before Al sang a verse. RIP old pard.
