I've just finished comparing Charge 4 with Flip 5 myself. Here is my observarion ragarding their sound quality. I don't agree sound signature of these two is the same. Flip 5 is brigher. It can play higher frequencies then Charge 4, maybe a little bit too emphasized, but that's just when I'm directly in front of the Flip 5. Charge 4 has a stronger bass band (IMO too much for indoor use) and a bit too much of lower mids. Both speakers sound best at up to about 50% of loudness. At the same percieved loudness (while Flip 5 is at 50% or lower) I prefere Flip 5, because it has better heights and adequate bass. Charge 4 is too boomy for my taste, I like rather flat neutral sound. I did not try the speakers outside, but having more bass will for sure be useful to fill larger space. For easy listening indoors or from close distance, I choose Flip 5. It has more balanced sound and is easier to carrry due to its smaller size and less weight. Charge 4 can get louder, but it does not make me enjoy the music more. I prefere sound quality over loudness and the Flip 5 (at its best 50% or lower loudness) is loud enough for easy listening or a background music while chatting. For party and dancing even Charge 4 is weak, anyway. One remark at the end. Sometimes there is some combination of sounds in a music, that Flip 5 can't play clearly and a digital distortion is audible. Luckily it's rather rare and usually it's there only for a moment, so it's not a deal breaker and I'm very happy with my Flip 5. Charge 4 makes that distrotion too, but it's not audible so much, because it's present mostly in the high frequency band, where the Charge 4 is weaker.
IMO, you just posted the key to all of this. If you want an outdoor speaker, go with the Charge 4. If you want to use this as an indoor speaker with a laptop, go with the Flip 5. I think the much needed gains in the mids and bass is clearly there over the flip 4. The flip 4 was lacking badly in mids and bass. They did a great job with the flip 5 and I use mine with my laptop.
Agree, totally agree. I compare both of it in the store today, charge 4 yes louder and bassier but other than that. It sounds muddy and squeeky. Flip 5 sounds so nice almost like my Sony XB30. Portability also better. Second reason I get the flip 5 is I already got a JBL Xtreme, it will definitely beat the charge 4 in bass and not as muddy because of the tweeters. Flip 5 beats my Xtreme for portability, self listening quality, and enjoyable in a small room. Why do I need two boomy speakers if the reason for me to get another speaker than my Xtreme is for self and casual listening. JBL flip 5 really packs a lot and means a lot for people already got a big speaker like Xtreme because you dont need a charge 4 if you already got a better choice.
The flip 5 definetly sounds better than the Charge 4, although the Charge 4 is bigger and has more bass. The Flip 5 sounds a lot more natural and precise, while the Charge 4 is just louder and delivers a very muddy sound.
Charge 4 has three advantages the reviewer didnt mention. Phone Charging, Battery Life AND connectivity beyond Bluetooth. The Charge 4 has an aux input so you can connect to your phone, walkman, tv etc. If im at beach or tailgating I can connect to my phone using the aux input instead of bluetooth - saving phone battery.
why did they make such a comparison that two of them are very different types like flip 5 tiny but the other is so ridiculous I think flip is a more useful speaker that gives both small and good sound. What do you expect from a small speaker? realize the cabins are not the same okay ????

Maxsound plus is killer the jbl sound about the detail and clarity... The Flip 5 is little muddy i think when playing a follow me track. The maxsound is far more clearer and no compression in this channel. Yeah, the stereo processing too..
Don't buy the cheaper CS serial FLIP 5's per JBL people. That model uses a plastic driver and has noticeably less output in the treble and bass but they do float. Serious, if you can find a TL serial, they are the top-of-the-line flip 5 available right now per JBL.
Flip 5 sounds better... The Charge 4 is missing some upper treble that makes it sounds clearer and also .. The Flip 5 is almost as loud as the Charge 4... hmm
People rage about that mono speaker too much and 50% of them have never heard real stereo speakers how they sound and how the sound stage is made. It's pretty impossible to have any sort of stereo separation on such small speaker like Charge 4 or Flip 5 when they are just centimeters away from the center. If people really need to have "stereo" sound on small Bluetooth speaker then use some app to create duophonic stereo (faux stereo) effect.
Don’t forget to look at the Sony XB33. It has a slightly less neutral sound signature with more emphasis on bass and treble. The Charge 4 (which I own) is focused on mids, so vocals are much louder than everything else. I personally don’t like booming music, especially their vocals. So just keep that in mind.
This is simple. Buy both. The reason why is it all depends on where you want to use one of these speakers. If you want one for inside a bedroom while watching a movie on your laptop, get the Flip 5. It's perfect for that and I love mine. The Flip 5 has a lot better mid range and bass than the previous flip 4. If you want to take this speaker outside or you want to have a party where you want a speaker super loud, get the Charge 4. Trust me, you will find that each of these speakers serve a purpose.
I got a Charge 4 for inside, and take my Flip 5 around. The Charge has a fuller, more balanced sound with a deeper bass, which is very enjoyble when listening to music at a low volume indoors.

Great comparison, thanks! At max volume, the charge is a bit better, but just about all, it sounds sometimes like form the shoe box, on 60% volume sound to me form the flip more natural. Max output I would only use outdoors, indoor you go death.:-)
I LOVE my C4! Had it for 7months and it just keeps sounding better and deeper/clearer as the new single driver breaks in and becomes more flexible from use. I read a email from a JBL tech the big driver doesn't distort at high vol, but can take up to 2 months to reach its max clarity/performance from reasonable listening volume use.

Not much discernible difference over the recording. Loss of true sound as it travels from JBL to mic to youtube through wire to ears. But the charge 4 is an obvious winner in THIS VIDEO. Bigger Battery, louder, better bass. however for the price of a Charge 4 I can get 2 Flip5s and widen the scope with Constructive interference (distance and angle formula found online) $110 vs $240 CAD but I’ll still spend the money.
Just spent a week listening to the Flip 5 (GG version) and Charge 4 around my house at low to moderate volumes. The Flip 5 sounds better to me. Better bass, overall fuller sound. Charge 4 is kind of hollow sounding.

As a die hard JBL fanboy for 3yrs now, the dang Anker Motion Plus is light years better than most JBL'S. Apparently with the easy-to-use EQ app depending on what volume and Clarity you're going for you can set it to beat the Extreme 2 with the latest firmware upgrade, it's louder and CLEARER w little bass loss. The Extreme 2 has slightly larger drivers, well not as loud and clear sound slightly deeper than the new Motion Plus. But I'd rather spend $200 on two 30 watt Motion Plus, and pocket the $50 left over. Sad, but it's a bad little speaker to go toe to toe w the X2.

One of my main reasons why I bought the charge 4 is battery life, I work a lot of hours, so I was looking for something that last a long time and the charge 4 last me 2 days with only one charge, wile flip 5 and other speakers need to be charge 2 times a day
Not a really full review on both video but maybe I can help a little more... I have both.... If you are looking for more clarity in your music or podcast than get the flip 5 Party Boost... Note that the party boost has twice the range of the charge 4 past 80 yards. So if you're looking for better clarity and you are thinking of multiple paired up speakers than get the flip 5 (Party Boost) at 12hrs battery time especially if there are a lot of walls between speakers. Now the Charge 4 is older but way louder and has more bass but loses a little clarity; you can hear it as it switches back and forth on this video. Charge 4 has a longer battery life of 20 hrs and has a USB port so you can charge your phone or other devices as well as a aux port for those that can't pair or don't have blue tooth capabilities.. The range is still really decent at about 45 yards especially at a home with friends and stuff but just can't pair it with party boost which sucks! So if you have a speaker just for your room or chilling in your backyard get the charge 4 but if you're planning on a party in your home and outside then pair them up with party boost speakers all around .... just tell your friends to bring theirs if they have one.. and both are 3ft water proof and dust proof.. hope this helps..

For me, this one is definitely better than the previous, yes it is mono not stereo, but I think sound quality is more important, just like the Onyx Studio 5/ 6 and Phantom Reactor, they are doing mono but everyone is okey with it.

As a die hard JBL fanboy for 3yrs now, the dang Anker Motion Plus is light years better than most JBL'S. Apparently with the easy-to-use EQ app depending on what volume and Clarity you're going for you can set it to beat the Extreme 2 with the latest firmware upgrade, it's louder and CLEARER w little bass loss.
The Extreme 2 has slightly larger drivers, well not as loud and clear sound slightly deeper than the new Motion Plus.
But I'd rather spend $200 on two 30 watt Motion Plus, and pocket the $50 left over. Sad, but it's a bad little speaker to go toe to toe w the X2.
@@sethnicholls7861 Tested my Motion Plus against my cousins UE3, the UE3 had a better bottom end but clarity Motion was all over it like a rash!
The Motions EQ tailors the unit much better than the UE3s EQ!
So as far as I'm concerned for half the money Motion wins hands down 😉
One of my main reasons why I bought the charge 4 is battery life, I work a lot of hours, so I was looking for something that last a long time and the charge 4 last me 2 days with only one charge, wile flip 5 and other speakers need to be charge 2 times a day
And flip 4 you have to charge 4 times in day
Not a really full review on both video but maybe I can help a little more... I have both.... If you are looking for more clarity in your music or podcast than get the flip 5 Party Boost... Note that the party boost has twice the range of the charge 4 past 80 yards. So if you're looking for better clarity and you are thinking of multiple paired up speakers than get the flip 5 (Party Boost) at 12hrs battery time especially if there are a lot of walls between speakers. Now the Charge 4 is older but way louder and has more bass but loses a little clarity; you can hear it as it switches back and forth on this video. Charge 4 has a longer battery life of 20 hrs and has a USB port so you can charge your phone or other devices as well as a aux port for those that can't pair or don't have blue tooth capabilities.. The range is still really decent at about 45 yards especially at a home with friends and stuff but just can't pair it with party boost which sucks! So if you have a speaker just for your room or chilling in your backyard get the charge 4 but if you're planning on a party in your home and outside then pair them up with party boost speakers all around .... just tell your friends to bring theirs if they have one.. and both are 3ft water proof and dust proof.. hope this helps..
great review! i got most all of the jbl speakers! i like my flip 5 because its small compared to my charge and extreme speakers. plus it will jam about a loud as my charge 4.. enough said..
For me, this one is definitely better than the previous, yes it is mono not stereo, but I think sound quality is more important, just like the Onyx Studio 5/ 6 and Phantom Reactor, they are doing mono but everyone is okey with it.
Onyx has deep and punchier bass..it sounds clean thn Charge 4 though not as loud as jbl but over all bass & sound quality is on par at onyx

Sure the charge 4 sounds better but I'd rather the flip5 get 2 and the new pairing software allows unlimited connecting of speakers
But seems unfair cause DUH the charge 4 is bigger speakers and the passive radiators DUH it sounds better
