High School Football. Friday Night Lights. The pep rallies, the homecoming games, the bitter rivalries between opposing schools. The sweet taste of victory and the pungent smell of defeat. High School football has become an essential part of American culture. Since its formation in the late 1800s, football participation has grown tremendously. Over one million high school students participate in football across the country each year. According to Bleacher Report, there are over 16,000 high school football teams. Each team is led on offense by their quarterback. The backbone of the team. The leader on and off the field. They are essential to the team's success and without the position, football would be a very different sport. Over my lifetime, I have seen many high school quarterbacks go on to have successful college and even NFL careers. Kyler Murray, whom some regard as the greatest high school quarterback ever, finished with a 43 and 0 record, 3 state championships and 186 total touchdowns. He went on to win the Heisman for Oklahoma in 2018 and was selected by the Arizona Cardinals with the number overall draft pick in 2019. Other quarterbacks, such as Ben Roethlisberger, didn’t see their first start until their senior year. Roethlisberger ended up with very few offers and decided to attend the university of Miami, Ohio. He created a name for the MAC team in 2003 as they finished the season with a 13 and 1 record, ranking 10th in the AP poll. He went on to have a highly successful NFL career passing for over 56,000 yards and 382 total touchdowns along with two Super Bowl victories with the Steelers. One high school quarterback took a path no one had ever seen before. He took what it meant to be great, and turned it on its head to become a legend. With over three national championship victories, 12,800 total yards, 178 total touchdowns and a 45 and O record as a starter at Bishop Gorman, Tate Martell is (pause) the GREATEST High School quarterback of all time!

Before y’all start arguing, please actually watch the video. Tate played at a private school with great recruits. But they also played one of the most difficult schedules for a high school team ever and he was able to demolish teams with his arms and his legs. For all y’all arguing that Murray played against better talent, Martell beat St. Thomas Aquinas, St Johns Bosco and Cedar Hill, one of the best teams in the state of Texas. Y’all really should actually watch the video before stating your opinion. Yes I understand why some people would think Kyler is the best high school quarterback but what Tate did was very impressive and you can not argue against that.

Am I the only person who watched QB1 and thought “this dude won’t do anything in college”? Just his demeanor really gave me a bad vibe and the fact that he’s on the smaller side and seemed very immature made me kind of write him off from the start
Yea he is immature I never liked him, Jake Fromm though, I always liked very humble.

What a baller! Kid has skills no question. Loads of talent. Maybe he can develop that ATHLETE skill set and get to the NFL. He could make a living being a slot like a Wes Welker or Julian Edelman. Though QBs are always QBs at heart.
I loved the video and your arguments are really strong to me. To be the best you have to beat the best and that’s what he did. And people that say he is a bust remember that the rest of his career cannot change the fact that he was GREAT in High School which is the point of this video.
I remember Martell coming out of high school claiming he was the #1 Dual Threat QB. This was the same year that Tua Tagovailoa (the actual #1 Dual Threat QB) came out and signed with Bama. Just to clarify...

I don't know who these other QB's beat in high school, but for Martell and his team to come south and beat the teams they beat, makes an extremely strong case for Martell.
Tate’s high schools career was amazing to watch I feel he should of chose a less powerhouse college and maybe he would of had a better college career but can’t go back in time

I never understood why these players going to colleges never go to the smaller schools. They would have a better chance of starting and would probably be able to play alot sooner. Tate Martel is a good example of this. If he went to a smaller school they would probably design their offense around him.
I was at all the Gorman games and yes Tate was the best ever. Undefeated and 3 natties qualify you without a doubt as the baddest qb in hs history.

I mean, yeah, their schedule was hard, but I mean listen to the schools that his teammates went to, lol. He has D1 players all around him... then, his highlights, his passes were 8 yds, then the players broke them into long plays. His attitude and entitlement were his downfalls... whenever competition came, he either lost, or transferred.

Just finished researching Kyler Murray's high school career. Don't think this argument will ever be settled, but I've got to give Murray the edge because of where he played. Martell beat some good teams, once. Murray beat teams just as good, but did it his entire career.
Yea the more I think of it, I should probably make a video on kyler as well just so people can compare and decide for themselves.
@@szcollective That would be great. The Cedar Hill team that Martell's team beat is a big school but not a perennial powerhouse like Midland Lee. Also, I would bet that if Martell's team played St. Thomas Aquinas 10 times they would lose 9 of them.
@@jerrybroxson1174 Midland Lee is not the powerhouse they use to be. Last time they won a state championship was 1999. Cedar Hill won a state title back in 2013. There are a bunch of great teams with D1 players in the DFW METROPLEX and Murray beat a lot of them.

I just re-watched QB-1 on Netflix. Agreed that Tate has the talent and athleticism...and ego. I have a problem with his mindset. His mindset is that of Manziel and not a Manning or Brady or Kobe. I predict that he will not be successful at the highest level. With all that talent, he’s BARELY been successful at the college level. He’ll finish out his “showcase” at Miami, get drafted by a ‘QB wood chipper’ pro team in the early rounds and languish. Judging from those ‘mick’ classes he was taking at BG, I punt he’ll be prepared to do much else. I’m not sold on him, at all.

@@coldassnow8028 Yes, that is true. Allen continues to schedule teams that they can beat. Even when Kyler was playing for Allen they declined playing Bishop Gorman. They declined playing Gorman for 3 years. The Gorman coach still calls them out on that.
Cedar Hill is pretty good on a regular basis but I wouldn't consider them one of the Texas powerhouses...
They were that year. They were ranked 12 in the country. Also, that game was supposed to be against Allen. Your Cupcake killing Allen refused and Cedar Hill manned up and accepted. Sanchez even said they wanted to play the State Champions from the big 3 states. Allen was the only one that refused.
Also Cedar Hill's only losses were to the top teams in the country. DeSoto beat them twice and the second time was in the Championship game.
Tate martell played on a prep team that recruits. I think guys like murray vince young who played on local teams and elevated there team are better. We leaving out guys like andrew luck trevor Lawrence justin fields johnny manziel etc.

I heard he is going to transfer again out of U of Miami - his second school after Ohio State U. .... I also checked his high school stats where he threw for 7,510 yards w/ 41 TDs and rushed for 1,257 yards w/ 21 TDS in his 45 games at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, NV ... not the toughest football state by any stretch of the imagination ... Best QB ever? How about the most hyped QB ever by SZHighlights and SZHolights only cuz no one has ever made that claim but you and only you. You were getting all defensive about another QB from the greatest football state in the USA ... which is Texas. Just as a comparison, let alone the level of competition, Kyler Murray started in 43 games - 2 games less than Tate, at Allen High and also never lost once. In those 43 games, he threw for 10, 386 yards w/ 117 TDs and rushed for 4,139 yards w/ 69 TDs ... and what he did at the collegiate level is the stuff of legend ... so who was this best ever QB of all time Tate Martell again? ... He must be your cousin or something!

In all fairness not all HS QB's past or present have a rich mommy and daddy as this kid did to move them out of state to an already established national HS football program to play with the caliber athletes and schedule they have. Also, how does his 7 loss season in San Diego factor into him being the greatest, or does that season not count?

Kyler Murray, Ryan Perriloux, Terrelle Pryor, Tebow, Deshaun Watson, Garrett Gilbert, Jimmy Clausen, Matt Barkley (called his own plays) just to name a few. Tate didn't even finish first in stats in Nevada, much less Nationally. Tough kid, but skill-set never came close to some of the greats in HS.
He could try to become the next “Swiss Army Knife!” aka Taysom Hill🤔. He’s not as big as Taysom? But he definitely has the motor and will to win!
