- Thank you to anyone who watches my videos and participates in collecting in any capacity. I truly hope you enjoy the wonderful hobby and make some friends along the way!
For a wide range of coins, banknotes and other collectables, come on down to www.ThompsonsCoins.com
This is such a wonderful video.
Thanks so much for watching!
I agree! I’m going to my monthly coin shop meeting tonight. I’ve made great friends in that small in-person community and the internet community alike.
What a great idea for a coin shop to hold regular meetings! I bet there's a tonne of great information being shared at them! 😄 I hope all is well over in the US T!
Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge with us. I’ve been collecting for about 25 years, and one of the things I love about this hobby is, no matter how long you’ve been at it, there’s always something new to learn 😊. Hopefully see you at the Melbourne ANDA money fair in February
I absolutely agree! Thanks for watching Arthur, hopefully I'll see you there! It's shaping up to be a biiiig event! 😊🥳👍
Well said Matt.
Couldn't agree more 😊
Thanks for the support Ray!
Great video Matt, and so true! I have a couple of great friends I've made through collecting, and the online communities around this hobby are so friendly and welcoming - which for someone outside Melbourne is great - I know for me, and for others, to get to any kind of numismatic event would generally take well over an hour (for something in central Melbourne, closer to three) - so it's great to have a hobby I can enjoy solo, but also connecting with a great community!
Thanks for watching Quentin, that's great to hear! I'm always pleased to hear that people are able to enjoy the hobby regardless of their location 😄
@@ThompsonsCoins Definitely! And viedeos like these are also great to keep people in touch and like we are a part of things too - eg this might have been a conversation we had in the shop if I was close enough to come in :)
Hi Matt,🙋🏻♂️. I don’t know how I missed this one, but just watched and enjoyed 🙆♂️.
Playing with and looking through my stack makes me happy, remembering how I got a certain piece, the meaning behind it etc. it’s so rewarding, and thanks to you, you have helped me on my journey 🙏.
Thanks so much for watching Jamie I'm glad you caught up with this one! ☺☺ I look forward to continuing the exciting journey with you this year too!
You are spot on mate love it keep up the great work 👍
Thanks so much for the kind words Brett!
I totally agree! As someone who isn’t very extroverted i love chatting with all sorts of people about hobbies we share especially coin collecting heck id even go to a coin shop just for a wonderful chat! ❤
Coin shops are definitely one of the most interesting places to spend some time and make great friends!
Absolutely spot-on mate. What I really like is the flexibility between keeping to myself and interacting with the coin community. The balance suits me as a person very nicely.
Thanks for watching Justin! That's great to hear and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the hobby! 🥳
I can totally relate to everything you said Matt, you hit the nail right on the head with your comments, I have met some really great people along the way, thanks for your enthusiasm, entertaining and informative videos over the past year, wishing you and you family a happy Christmas and prosperous New Year. Cheers Peter J 😂👋🎅🎄🤶✌👍
Thanks for watching Peter! I hope you and your family have a great Christmas too!
Hi Matt, your enthusiasm is contagious lol Me being relatively new to numismatics I have to say you are my tree, my strength! I always look forward to your vlogs. Merry Christmas to you and your family Matt and may it be a very good one. Cheers
Thanks for the kind words Alan!! I hope you have a great Christmas too 🎉☺️
Great as always… I really have no physical coin friends and people have no idea what I do…but do have people like you, whom I have never met in person but are friends over coins. Mutual love of something is always a force multiplier!
Thanks for watching! It's fascinating that you've got so many connections through your channel, I'm sure one of these days I'll make it over to the US for a coin show and we'll finally meet in person!! 🥳
That would be really cool!@@ThompsonsCoins
I love collecting but my greatest fear is coins will become like stamps with the introduction of digital currency
Hi Craig! I wouldn't be too concerned about that but rest assured that even if coin collecting declines in popularity, I'll still be here having a blast 🤗
@@ThompsonsCoins same here my friend
👍👍👍😊 cheers Matthew Merry Christmas 🎄 too you and family.
Same to you Michael! Thanks for all the support over the year mate!
Hi Matt, I get excited when I find a 1994 50 cent piece with the date wider apart. Some people would say SO WHAT. Thanks for your Enthusiasm.
Haha you're absolutely right!!! It's the little things that can really make your day in this hobby and I hope you continue to have a good time collecting!
Happy new year 🥳
True story Thommo , kindred collectors rule ❤
Thanks for providing knowledgeable information via your channel 👍👍, Matt. Have a great Xmas holiday 🎉
Thanks for watching!! I hope you have a great Christmas too!
Your first coin collecting friend should be your local coin shop ... mine knows what I like and set things aside for me ... I also get a bit better deals ... the last time he even sold me a few 2$ coins from his own collection
A good relationship with your dealer is indeed invaluable!!! That's great to hear 😊
Would be cool to hear an interview with a coin collector that has been collecting for like 50-70 years , to hear about the changes .
I've had some great conversations with long time collectors and that's a great idea! I'll see what I can organise 😊🥳
Thanks Matt for another great video. I used to watch videos and never comment, though I do now when I enjoy them as I now see it as an opportunity mainly to provide support, encouragement and to say thank you, with the hope it helps inspire you to make many more into the future. I hope this is the case. All the best to you and your family, have a great Christmas 🎄 🍻
Thanks so much Jim it really does encourage me to keep making videos and it's very much appreciated!! I hope you have a great Christmas too ☺️
Matt, it’s nice to see someone (relatively) young that is so passionate about these things. I really enjoy your videos and I enjoy checking out your shop to see what’s new. I got into stamps as a kid. Back then you didn’t have much money but you had lots of spare time and stamp collecting was fairly cheap and quite fun and educational. All the kids did it. Now stamps seem to be pretty much dead, which is a real shame. Coins and banknotes seem to be going the same way and I can see the time when cash is no more. I like coins and banknotes because they are real and functional. Things we use every day. I prefer “real” coins, circulating ones, and their special varieties. And I miss the 1c and 2c coins. And the paper banknotes. The fresh ones had a particular smell. And they were classic designs. I think collecting is how I express my love for my country. And reminisce. Take care everyone 😎🙂
Thanks for the kind words! I have a very small but interesting stamp collection and agree that it's quite sad to have seen such a sharp decline in its popularity! Hopefully we've still got plenty of collectors for coins and banknotes though! ☺️
I collect so much stuff yep coins for sure also guitars, bourbon and fancy goldfish. Some call it hoarding but I try to stick to investment grade stuff. Gunna be a nightmare for wife and kids when I kick it. Keep it up Matt your vids continue to get better. I try to get involved in heaps of online shows and mod in a few,
On a side not I finally played my first gig (just a wedding) which went well I've always wanted to but lacked confidence, I get where your coming from with music. Merry Xmas mate.
If I had the space I'd love to collect guitars! I had a sweet Olympic white tele which I regret selling to this day!
Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad to hear you played your first gig I hope it's the first of many!! 🥳
Personally, I stack Silver, but I do seem to collect friends who are into numismatic coins. Shout out to "David Morgan" if you end up watching this vid. (not the famous David Morgan, the other one). : ) I still do not understand the mindset of the average collector. I had a friend in my youth who planted the thought of "why would you" into my mind. He was into tea spoon collecting. (I can not type that without smiling). "Why would ya"? I have learnt over the year's, "To each his own".
I think as long as you're enjoying yourself and it's not negatively impacting anyone you're absolutely right!
I've seen some amazing spoon collections too but must confess, they didn't really do anything for me 🤣
I have been collecting all the special $1.00 and 50 cent coins most are probably only worth face value. Is there any where I can take them to get an honest valuation that you would recommend
If you do a google search for a coin shop in your local area they should be able to assist but the vast majority of coins that come from circulation are worth their face value or fairly close to it ☺️
I’d hate to be a Debbie Downer but I had a great passion for coin collecting. The RAM and scalpers ruined that for me.
Collect what you can. Buy what you can afford. There’s plenty of inexpensive stuff out there. Go back to stamps - never been cheaper! 😂
The ancient coin market is affected by the same people, still nice to collect a tetradrachm though.
@@Gumardee_coins_and_banknotes it’s one coin I’ve always wanted BUT I’m lead to believe there are a lot of fakes out there and I don’t know how to tell the difference. I’ll probably stick with what I know.
@@peecee1384 I did have stamps. Didn’t have acid free books and foxing got to them. Never again.
@@sticustom Collect Aussie 5 cent coins. Or US cents. Cheap
Well said, matt. You definately seem to have a gift for promulgating your enthusiasm in numismatics to all who watch your various broadcadts. Keep them coming.
Thanks so much for watching Mark! ☺️
*definitely
will the next 2 dollar coin be 24ct gold?
I used to love and enjoy coin collecting. BUT, since the death of Elizabeth II the greed has come out in people and has ruined the hobby
How? I don’t understand. Do you keep missing out on new issues?
Seriously? its been a huge issue for well over a year now
@@peecee1384
@@Nrshepherd1979 Yes. Seriously. You didn’t say what the problem is. You think it’s bad if the value of your coin collection increases? Or is it because you keep missing out on new issues? Other than that, we live in a free world. People are free to buy and free to sell. Do you think Harvey Norman sells you a TV at cost price? They buy it cheap and sell to you high. That’s not greed it’s capitalism.
