Omg this video just saved my life, I've been suffering for the past year with all these symptoms, and the Drs from where I am aren't very familiar with CHS so I've literally been at the brink of suicide on how bad the symptoms are, this is me literally down to everything she said. Now I know and thank God. This is one of the most debilitating illnesses ever, it's pure hell. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

    CHS is no joke.
I started smoking weed with 16 every day, I am 31 now.
When I was 17 I had the first episode of CHS. It started with one week of extreme stomach pain and not beeing able to drink or eat. Only hot showers helped, so I was sitting in the shower for hours every day, even in hospital, as they weren't able to find the problem and couldn't do something for me, except giving opiods as painkillers, which only helped for a few hours until the pain came back.
At that point I didn't consider the weed smoking as the problem. Usually it helped me with "normal" stomach pain from eating to much and such things, and the doctors had no idea that CHS even existed back then.
But things got worse from year to year as I continued smoking weed.
The episodes of CHS got longer and longer and appeared more often. From only 1 week in a year at the beginning, when I was 17, up to 2 weeks this year (age 31). This year I had to go the hospital 3 times already and they finally diagnosed me with CHS.
Now I almost stopped smoking weed for about 2 month already and I hope I don't have an episode of CHS again in the future. But it's really hard for me to stay clean, as I loved smoking weed and all my friends still smoke.
Over all the years I smoked weed and suffered from CHS I noticed some things which could have something to do with it:
    1. Out of all people I know I always had the dryest mouth, throat and lips after consuming weed.
    2. I have always been the first one falling asleep from the weed we smoked, while others are able to stay awake, even though they smoked the same amount.
    3. The episodes of CHS mostly appeared in or after weeks of very high dosages of thc (over 1gram of weed up to 3 grams of strong strains per day).
    4. Most of the time my body showed warning signs before the episodes started: getting dizzy while smoking weed and acid reflux before and after smoking weed.
My advice if you suffer from a strong episode of CHS pain:
    1. Hot showers/ hot water will help, but only as long as you stay in it. As soon as you go out the shower the pain and nausea comes back. Watch out not burn yourself with the hot water, as hotter water helps more, but you sometimes can't feel the pain of burnings anymore, because the stomach pain from chs is so strong.
Try capsaicin cream in addition or instead of hot water, as it helps for a longer period of time and you can't burn yourself with it.
    2. If you aren't able to drink for more than 24 to 36 hours, go to an hospital or at least an doctor that can give you intravenous infusion as soon as possible! Your body needs water. I once refused to go for more than 48 hours until my parents forced me, which was good, as the doctors diagnosed me with kidney failure from not drinking for over 48 hours😓
    3. Tell the doctors the truth about your cannabis consume (even if you are scared to let them know because of the cannabis laws in your country or your parents etc.) and let them know it could be CHS you are suffering from. many doctors still don't know CHS exists!
    4. Stop smoking weed completely or at least stop smoking it more than one or two days in a month, and don't smoke too much. I can tell you, from my own experience, it will most likely come back, if you smoke too much.

I believe my partner has CHS. She's been having episodes of extreme vomiting for nearly 3 years. She's hasn't been open to discussing her cannabis use with her doctors, as she's afraid of being treated like a drug addict in the hospital. Typically after she's gone through an episode she's open to discussing CHS with me as a potential cause, but after some time of abstinence, she relapses.
She's at the hospital now. This is her second episode this month, and 5th this May. I really don't know how to help her.

    • @Blvckbirdz
      @Blvckbirdz ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@SuperJeremy1982 First of all your emotional support is very important.
The pain from CHS can be very strong, and being alone or only with strangers at the hospital with this pain at least for me is very depressing, which makes it even more worse. So visit her as often as possible, hold her hand or something like this, if she is in strong pain. This always helped me a lot.
Second: convince her to tell the doctors about it: Yes, some of them may not be very sympathetic and understanding, but at least they can give you the right medication, as common painkillers for stomach pain usually won't work. It's "just" cannabis, nothing uncommon, doctors have to deal with it everyday . Where I a from, it's illegal to own cannabis, but I still told the doctors. You just have to.
Usually benzodiazipin or opioids are the onlything to quickly relieve the pain.
In addition she needs infusion to stay hydrated.
Try to buy capsaicin ointment, put it very thin on the stomach, and maybe shoulders and back, but not too much, as it burns and feels very hot, like chili.
As soon as she can she has to start drinking small amounts of water again, sip by sip, and wait for the reaction. If this works for at least 24 hours start the same with soup, maybe without anything in it at first and then with some vegetables inside. Try to avoid food with much fat, much sugar or acids. After another 24 hours without vomiting try some food like mashed potatoes and other soft boiled dishes. Continue that and slowly work your way up back to your common dishes. All in all try to eat healthy food in general, fast food, sugar, acid and fat is bad for people with a sensitive stomach.
If she feels better again, she needs to stop consuming cannabis, thats the only way to stop CHS. It's hard, but she has to. You can consume after a while, but only one day a month or something like that. Last time I suffered from CHS, I only smoked for one week after beeing clean for a month and immediately ended up in the hospital. It's really not worth it.
Again, she probably needs emotional support to stop smoking.
If all of this doesn't help, she may have another disease and should be checked again by the doctors.
I hope everything is understandable, as I am from germany and english is only my second language.
I wish both of you the best, try your best to convince her and follow the rules I mentioned, and I am sure she will be fine in a few days.

I abstained for a seven month and fourteen month period. The doctor do-littles still tried to claim that my, by then, very severe episodes were caused by cannabis use in a previous YEAR! If you’re born into some populations they will never help you, no matter how many hoops you jump through.

Bad thing about medical/recreational marijuana.. how long have you had cvs.. mine started as a young child.. many years undiagnosed.. then got diagnosed with CVS at 12.. I’m 39 now and marijuana does help my nausea!! Just “helps” tho.. when I say helps I mean when it wears off I’m back just as sick.. hate y’all have to go threw them saying it’s the weed.. to even get help for CVS at the Mayo Clinic you can’t have any thc in your system.. they won’t even see you for CVS if you do! It’s crazy..

I had chs, and I did not know I had it. I smoked weed for 30 years every day. My chs came about 3 years ago. The first thing that happened was I was smoking a spliff, and halfway through smoking the spliff, I had very bad nausea, stomach pains and stomach cramps and I then vomited, i didn't understand why i vomited so I continued to smoke. 3 months before this happened. My marriage broke down, and I was missing my children so much I could not cope, so I was already in a bad state of depression and not sleeping or eating much. I continue to smoke after this first bout of vomiting. After this first bout of vomiting, i could not eat food, and my insomnia kicked in very badly. Maybe I'm just eating two spoons of my dinner per day, and maybe 2 too 3 hours of sleep a night. I continue to smoke weed. I worked through this whole period doing manual labour, and somehow, my body was still functioning, and I felt strong even with lack of sleep and hardly eating food. I was functioning on Coca-Cola, Lucozade, and spliffs. Basically, I was ill for 6 months and continued to smoke without knowing the reason for my sickness. 6 months later, I hit a brick wall, and my body started to shut down. I went from 17 and a half stone down to 12 stone in 6 months. My symptoms were stomach cramps, stomach pain, vomiting from time to time, gastro problems. hypnic jerks when i was trying to sleep,. I also had tinnitus in the ears. once I did fall to sleep, then I woke up with tremors. Other symptom such as Muscle spasms. Muscle stiffness. Muscle pain. Muscle twitching, Bone pain. Muscle spasms in my back . Found it hard to walk. Numbness down my legs. Vomiting, nausea.Waking up with numbness in my arms and hands. Also Anxiety. muscle spasms in my throat, throat tightening every time I lie down to try to sleep. Constipation, Haemorrhoids. I could not urinate properly. The muscle spasms in my throat when I tried to lie down were causing my throat to close. All this time, i was going to the doctor's and getting nothing back from the doctors with regards to why I was getting all these symptoms. The doctor was offering me muscle relaxant tablets, but I could not take them because they made a lot of my symptoms worse. the doctor was telling me to sleep sitting up due to my throat closing when lying down. They sent me for every check-up you could imagine and found nothing about the causes of my sickness. They did find I had developed a hiatus hernia. As more time went past, the muscle spasms in my throat got so bad that I could not smoke because my throat started to close when standing or sitting. This obviously stopped me from smoking. It's not that I wanted to stop smoking. I was forced to because I could not breathe when smoking my throat would close up. From that day, I stopped smoking. My anxiety and depression were so bad from missing my kids and all the symptoms from the chs, and I was still not diagnosed. I felt like I was dying. My nervous system was in a very bad way. I was researching everywhere and came across CHS. I then took this to the doctor, and they diagnosed me with CHS. I continue to work through this whole period. Looking back, I do not know how I got through. But I think the continuous moving of the body was helping me somehow. I started to eat a little better, and slowly, slowly, I started to put my weight back on. After 1 year of me sleeping sitting up, I was finally able to lie down without my throat going into spasms so I could lay down. I started to sleep a little better slowly slowly. It's been 2 and a 1/2 years since stopping smoking. After 1 year, I was still in a very bad way, with many symptoms still remaining. After about a year and a half, they found a 7 mm polyp, which they cut out of my stomach. Through this whole period of me being sick with chs, i had found that having hot baths with Epsom salts was helping me a great deal. Putting warm olive oil all over my muscles was also helping. Drinking bone broth also helped a lot. After 2 years, my haemorrhoids started to calm down. I was able to go to the toilet better. Both urinating and pooing. It's been 2 and 1/2 years, and I still have tinnitus in the ears and spasms in my back and back pain, but it's nothing like the spasms and back pain I had before. I'm still suffering a little bit with insomnia. And when I wake from sleep, my arms and hands still go numb and still have tremors. Also the umbness down the outside of my right leg And tips of my toes are still numb, mainly my knee and thigh. The biggest help I have found in my healing period was through cranial therapy. When I start to feel quite good, sometimes I would try to drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes. Drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes seems to bring back some symptoms. I tried to drink sometimes to test my body. But then I realised I could not drink. Same with smoking cigarettes. Some symptoms start to come back. I have come to the realisation that I can not drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes. And obviously cannot smoke cannabis for the rest of my life. Even standing next to someone who is smoking a spliff affects me. I was always a very fit and strong individual and felt invincible. But this whole experience has humbled me. Please look after yourself and your health mentally and physically. The one good thing I can see about CHS is that if you stop smoking weed and live a healthy life, it can go away. As I said, I still have some symptoms. But I feel like if I look after myself hopefully I pray to God that all my symptoms will eventually go away. it is possible that there is damage done that can not be repaired from but I am very thankful and go forward with a positive mindframe. It is very good to see that there is information out there for people to find. It did not occur to me to go on TH-cam and type in chs back then. But even the videos on TH-cam here do not talk about half my symptoms. I obviously took chs to the Brim. And maybe I'm very lucky. But it is very good to see there is information out there, and people are learning more and more every day about CHS. If you feel you have CHS the beginner of CHS or you feel you have had it for a while, please stop smoking now. Go and seek help. As I said, the best thing that I found helped me was cranial therapy and God. God bless you all out there, peace.

The debate will probably always be up in the air. I started smoking at 20 for maybe 6 months then went through very stressful times and had my first episode. I'm sorry but as a 43 yr old white male and military vet who first used Cannabis at age 13 and who's used it most my life especially after my spinal cord injury in '00 I call total horseshit on "CHS" I've learned alot over the years with Cannabis and once I got old enough to use it as medication and not smoke to just get high like every 20 yr old I began to educate myself on all the great benefits and healing properties of the plant. I wish people realized and talked more about the fact that they are buying dirty legal Cannabis from dispensaries everywhere and being fooled buy fake inflated THC % to help sell a branda products and ALOT of the labs testing products are being paid off to lie, and dispensaries themselves are doing it as well folks. I've worked in the industry for decades now, rhe first few in the black or grey market and then finally legally yrs ago Best advice is grow your own so know exactly what's going into your body. This entire CHS thing is simply another way BIG PHARMA makes $$ of you all and it's deplorable imo. Notice know mention of the actual "cure?" Because its a fake made up thing to scare people. Not saying some aren't possibly getting sick from bad products however and even allergies/allergic reaction from what they ingested however. So many variables.

This is just false and you're spreading misinformation. CHS is absolutely a very real condition, just got to r/CHSinfo and read post after post about it. For people with CHS, abstaining definitely reduces symptoms. Complete abstinence is the only way to stop CHS once it sets in.
It only affects a small portion of heavy users, but it's absolutely real. If you actually listened to the presentation, you'd know that continuous cannabis use is thought to dysregulate the endocannabinoid system's anti vomiting neural pathways. The treatment for CHS is to just stop smoking weed. What $$$ is big pharma making by telling people to stop smoking weed when they do too much? It's not like big pharma is making anti CHS medicine now are they? Get your head out of your ass, maybe take a t break, you'll think clearer.

I do agree that it probably has something to do with the garbage that cannabis companies are putting in their pot, but CHS is definitely not horseshit.

I had chs and I did not know I had it. I was smoking weed for 30 years. My chs came about 3 years ago. The first thing that happened was I was smoking a spliff, and halfway through smoking the spliff, I had very bad stomach pains and stomach cramps and I vomited and didn't understand why, so I continued to smoke. 3 months before this happened. I split from my wife and children, so I was already in a bad state of depression, not sleeping, and not eating too much. I continue to smoke after this first bout of vomiting. After this first bout of vomiting, i could not eat food, and my insomnia kicked in very badly. Maybe I'm just eating two spoons of my dinner per day, and maybe 2 to 3 hours of sleep a night. But I continue to smoke. I worked through this whole period doing manual labour, and somehow my body was still functioning, and I felt strong even with lack of sleep and hardly eating food. I was functioning on Coca-Cola, Lucozade, and spliffs. Basically I was ill for 6 months and continue to smoke without knowing the reason for my sickness. 6 months later, I hit a brick wall, and my body started to shut down. I went from 17 and a half stone down to 12 stone in 6 months. I started getting stomach cramps, stomach pain, vomiting from time to time gastro problems, hypnic jokes when trying to sleep. Tinnitus in the ears. Body shaking once I did fall to sleep when I woke up with tremors. Muscle spasms. Muscle stiffness. Muscle pain. Bone pain. Muscle spasms in my back . Found it hard to walk. Numbness down my legs. Vomiting and nausea.Waking up with numbness in my arms and hands. Muscle spasms in my throat every time I lie down to try to sleep. Constipation. Haemorrhoids, I could not urinate properly. The Muscle spasms in my throat when I try to lie down, causing my throat to close, and i could not breathe when I lie down. All this time, i was going to the doctor's and getting nothing back from the doctors. But muscle relaxant tablets which I could not take. And sent me for every check-up you could imagine and found nothing. They did find I had developed a hiatus hernia,. I was told by the dr to sleep sitting up due to the muscle spasms in my throat when I try to lie down to sleep. So I had to sleep sitting up. Has more time went past, the muscle spasms in my throat got so bad that I could not smoke because my throat started to close when standing or sitting. This obviously stopped me from smoking. My anxiety and depression were so bad from missing my kids and all the symptoms from the chs and I was still not diagnosed. I felt like I was dying. My nervous system was in a very bad way. I done researching everywhere and came across CHS. I then took this to the doctor, and they diagnosed me with CHS. I continue to work through this whole period. Looking back, I do not know how I got through. But I think the continuous moving of the body was helping me somehow. I started to eat a little better and slowly slowly I started to put my weight back on. After 1 year when I was able to lie down without my throat going into spasms I started to sleep a little better slowly slowly. It's been 2 and a 1/2 years since stopping smoking. After 1 year, I was still in a very bad way, with many symptoms still remaining. Through this whole period, having hot baths with Epsom salts was helping me a great deal. Putting warm olive oil all over my muscles was also helping. Drinking bone broth also helped a lot. After 2 years, my haemorrhoids started to calm down. I was able to go to the toilet better. Both urinating and pooing. It's been 2 and 1/2 years, and I'm still have tinnitus in the ears and spasms in my back and back pain, but it's nothing like the spasms and back pain I had before. I'm still suffering a little bit with insomnia. And when I wake from sleep, my arms and hands still go numb and numbness down the outside of my right leg. The biggest help I have found in my healing period was through cranial therapy. When I start to feel quite good, sometime I would try to drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes. The one good thing I can see about CHS is that if you stop smoking weed and live a healthy life it can go away. As I said I still have some symptoms. But I feel like if I look after myself hopefully I pray to God that all my symptoms will eventually go away. it is possible that there is damage done that cannot be repaired from but I am very thankful and go forward with a positive mindframe. It is very good to see that there is information out there for people to find. It did not occur to me to go on TH-cam and type in chs back then. But even the videos on TH-cam here do not talk about half my symptoms. I obviously took chs to the Brim. And maybe I'm very lucky. But it is very good to see there is information out there and people are learning more and more everyday about CHS. If you feel you have CHS the beginner of CHS or you feel you have had it for a while please stop smoking now. Go and seek help. As I said the best thing that I found helped me was cranial therapy and God. God bless you all out there, peace 🙏

CHS has been around long before legalization became a thing! It is becoming more prévalant lately so believe you are onto something about the supposed medical marinuana from dispensaires. They are over fertilizing to make a profit and god knows what else!

I have found CHS has damaged my vagus nerve. This is some information I found on the internet about the vagus nerve. A damaged vagus nerve can cause a range of symptoms because the nerve affects many areas of the body:
Digestive issues: Acid reflux, bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or feeling full after eating little
Voice changes: Hoarseness, wheezing, or loss of voice
Heart and blood pressure changes: Changes in heart rate or blood pressure, or low blood pressure
Swallowing and gag reflex: Difficulty swallowing or loss of gag reflex
Dizziness and fainting: Dizziness or fainting
damage to the vagus nerve can affect sleep patterns:
    Low vagal tone
Low vagal tone can lead to sleep disturbances, fatigue, and other physiological symptoms of depression.
    Vagus nerve stimulation
Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) can be an effective treatment for insomnia. VNS can help maintain a balance in the autonomic nervous system, which is important for sleep and wakefulness. However, VNS can also cause sleep-disordered breathing and worsen sleep apnea.
    Icing the vagus nerve
Icing the vagus nerve can help with sleep, and is generally safe. However, you should be careful not to get frostbite, so you can cover the ice pack with a cloth and only leave it on for up to 20 minutes.
Mood changes: Depression, anxiety, or chronic mood issues
damage to the vagus nerve can affect the bowels:
    Gastroparesis
When the vagus nerve is damaged, food may not move from the stomach to the intestines. This can be caused by diabetes, viral infections, abdominal surgery, or scleroderma.
    Poor digestion
When the vagus nerve isn't working properly, the stomach may not produce enough acid to digest food. This can lead to bloating, cramping, diarrhea, constipation, or gastro-esophageal reflux.
    Digestive conditions
Poor vagal nerve function can be linked to digestive conditions such as:
    Heartburn, acid reflux, or GERD
IBS, including chronic constipation and diarrhea
Inflammatory bowel disease, such as ulcerative colitis
    SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth)
damage to the vagus nerve can cause unexplained weight loss.
There are several ways to strengthen or stimulate the vagus nerve, including:
    Breathing
Deep, slow, diaphragmatic breathing can activate the vagus nerve. You can try belly breathing, where your stomach expands as you inhale.
    Cold therapy
Applying cold compresses to your face or neck, or taking a cold shower, can stimulate the vagus nerve.
    Massage
Massaging the back of your ears and the front side of your ear can stimulate the vagus nerve. You can also try carotid sinus massage, which involves lightly massaging the carotid artery in your neck.
    Exercise
Endurance activities like jogging, cycling, and swimming can stimulate the vagus nerve.
    Diet
Eating a whole-foods diet, and taking probiotics or omega-3 fatty acids, can support the vagus nerve.
    Meditation
Meditation can improve vagal tone. You can try apps like Calm App, Insight Timer, or Heartmath.
    Singing and humming
Singing and humming can increase vagal tone.
    Positive social connections
Spending time with people who make you laugh and smile can have a positive benefit on vagal tone.
ther symptoms: Unexplained weight loss, brain zaps, or impending doom
