I learned this when I was about 50. After I fell and got a sweet concussion it was all good after that. I figured it can't get any worse. The furthest I rode was about 10 miles on it. Great workout!
Got one of these like 8 years ago or so and had to learn by trial and error. I was only twisting the tail to speed up without relation to the nose lol. Just ordered a new one after giving my old one away to a family friend and cant wait to try it out
I had one about 10 or 12 years ago, rode it all the time while the kids rode their bikes, now I got one at a thrift store for $15 and got the smaller one for my 8 year old, he learned very quickly and now it’s literally all he wants to do, even inside and now I have to do some drywall repairs but at least he’s not staring at a screen all day.
I remember my cousins and siblings would play ripstick soccer. Was so much fun because the board is so maneuverable and you could get some cheeky kicks by flicking out the tail as you pass the ball.
I just found two of these on the side of the road. And it's way more comfortable than I could imagine. I didn't know I missed out on over a decade of this thing
Yeah I thought so as well until I practiced now I can get decent speed. I've only been practicing for a day and I've also gotten pretty aggravated with it but stick to it you'll get better.
Here's how to stop without looking like a noob. 1. Bend your knees and reach for the torsion bar in the middle. 2. Step off with your front foot and use that same foot to lift your body off the Ripstick while you pull the Ripstik forward off the ground by grabbing the torsion bar. 3. Move the Ripstik to your side and walk like a boss.
Bought one in 2024 and I'm 30. No regrets. 😅 Also, first time I'm watching a how-to for it, and found out I was teaching myself wrong! (Mounting it backward cause it's easier for me, starting from a stop rather than a propulsion, no friend or wall helping me balance, etc. 😂). Gotta love that my natural instinct is to make it harder for myself!
Honestly this didn't catch on as well as it shouldve. Maybe the bright design and toy like feel. But its so relaxing, smooth and fun to use. Im on it for hours a day after work. Its such a great low impact exercise for your legs too.
The street I live on is on a hill and I’d bomb it with no helmet or pads or without knowing if there was gonna be a car at the intersection at the bottom. Rode that damn thing until the back wheel was so worn down to the bearing. Loved it so much.
I’ve been riding a ripstik since 2010. I advise not taking it down a steep hill. I learned that the hard way a couple years ago and I used a car to balance.
@2looney29 I'd definitely go with the Classic. I have the Classic, the RipSter, and a friend of mine has the G. The Classic I use if I'm coasting around town or bombing some decent hills, (when I miss snowboarding enough haha) and the RipSter I'll use if I'm in the mood to just carry it/coast with it a little bit just to get somewhere close or to have a little fun, and I'd say the G is mostly for attempting skateboard tricks. Whatever you want to do, I'd start with the Classic.
😂😂 I bought one from Walmart but haven't tried it yet. I thought it adjusts but I found out it doesn't. Welp, guess I'll have some Bruises & busted Knee Caps tomorrow. 😂
This is good but some riders will need to mirror it, preferring to put their right foot in front. Nearly everyone has an innate preference but some aren't sure which foot likes to be in front and which foot pushes off. If you're struggling, try both ways.
My brother got a ripstik a few years ago and never used it since 2 years, so I pulled it out and find it hard to do the twist motion, should I get a new one?
Some people think that using your front foot to move is weird it is just easier to me and others and if that's hard to you just simply use your left foot mostly
I already have a waveboard which is basically the same thing but cheaper.I really want. Ripstik air badly but it's just really expensive here in the Philippines
Found one in the park 2 day when back the board was still there then i said it was meant for me... Is not easy i fell down but i will learn to ride this stick.
Me and my friends found ripstiks by the trash. I took them home cleaned them and then learned how to ride them. They didn't want to help so I sent it never fell never got hurt. it's really easy to ride
Do I ride wrong. I lead with my right foot and not with my left foot. I also didn't have a friend help me, or a wall, I had a staircase on a pier. So I did everything wrong, I started on a (not) flat surface, with a (nonexistant) friend, and my (right) foot as the guiding foot. Also anyone let me know if you lead with the right as well.
“If you don’t have a friend”
What a relief
I learned on my own!
I literally use a ripstik the same way as a skate board and it works
I cant relate more than this comment
Don't worry you can substitute your need of a friend with a wall.

it sucks that it has a limit on what kind of terrains you can ride it on.

Yeah alot of roads are rocky and sidewalks will send you flying if they are old and have large gaps and steep stones
Yeah I’m really disappointed being I have no where to learn and I don’t have a helmet so I don’t want to try on concrete
Got one of these like 8 years ago or so and had to learn by trial and error. I was only twisting the tail to speed up without relation to the nose lol. Just ordered a new one after giving my old one away to a family friend and cant wait to try it out
I have 7 years with my ripstick, I can ride it but never learnt how to get on it, so now I'm watching every ripstick video

So helpful! Rotating the front foot feels very difficult. I can only manage to speed up with the back foot so far.

I found a nice one cleaning out a tenants apt. I'm 50 so a little nervous...I do snowboard tho, once you get going is the footwork similar?
