I'm still experimenting with how I want mine since I grew out my Mohawk. I wanted to do a gothic version of space buns or Afro puffs but it always turns out like the old Dracula lol.

This was actually really helpful, especially the bit about starting in the middle, I just randomly tease parts here and there and end up with a sad, floppy, half-teased mop and give up and comb it back down. I just never know where to start so middle, middle is good.

Hair masks are great. After you're all washed up and brushed out, you put one on. Let it sit for a while. It helps with a lot.
Apparently, I'm a closet goth!! Loving the shaved hairstyles and cut my hair short to hawk it. It's really thick Asian hair, so your tutorial was super helpful!! Thanks! Now off to buy a crimper!

I have crazy straight hair too and even though I have been teasing my hair for decades. I never thought of using a crimper. I am currently in Japan and am going to a friends concert and plan on doing a deathhawk again.

Matthias is really soft spoken and chill
Freyja and Matthias, when I was an early teen in the early 80's, I worked in a salon. Tons of older women had their hair styled weekly, and nearly all of them had their entered heads of hair teased. It was my job to wash them out before they were styled again. I also rinsed perms, but that was a bit different. I never had an issue with washing teased hair out, and I'm stating this so others who are worried about tangles, don't. Neglect is what caused tangles, or using the wrong products, not constant care and appropriate products. Many of those women I washed would get perms, which IMO, was a more permanent substitute for crimping. It reduced their time in the beautician's chair, for sure.

Urban_Thestral If you're really into it, you might be able to find some "loliable" items from thrift stores, or start practicing with sewing, until you get comfortable making your own clothes.
