I was looking into the HTP to replace my bug-king AV-40 but was sorry to see that it doesn't allow for bi-amping, making it a less than optimal match for my Gato + Focal Maestro's...
Part of the issue is that they are reliant on ATI to do the engineering and manufacturing. It's really their processor distributed by Monoprice, just like the Monolith power amps. ATI is also the manufacturer of other company's products too and so Monoprice is on their time table.
As long as I have been waiting for HDMI 2.1 and such, the new Integra DRX-8.4 might end up being what gets a spot in my setup instead of the HTP-1. I have both consoles that use it and a high end PC so "all three" that said I don't need it. I just refuse to invest in the 3K+ range for the "ultimate" setup that can't check all the boxes when there are other products that can and do. That said the Onkyo TX-RZ50 I have had for the last year has been amazing and very much worth buying, now on sale for $1300 and open box for as cheap as $1000.
I’m really curious what directional sub outs is going to do to EQ. I love the idea and I told this as a joke to my wife 2 years ago and said someone is stealing my idea. Lol. That said, when you EQ 4 subs to work as one you introduce various sub delays and EQ curves specific to each sub. Not for them to fire individually, but rather as one. This approach is disrupted with directional subs. The receiver would need to be aware of this from a processing perspective and this could potentially decrease overall impact to deliver the directional experience depending how it’s processed and executed.
I can see many ways of it working correctly in practice. Depending what the receiver allows. For example: give me one global output. I then minidsp from there for my 4 corner subs and I lose no overall impact this way. To make this work give me another 4 directional sub outs. So 5 total outs now. Then I can assign sub placement with those 4. If my global minidsp covers the 4 corners, then I could place middle wall front back left right for the directional effect. Then you would have to eq the 4 placement subs separate from each other, but each one against the global group. Then volume wise the placement subs would need to be higher in level or the receiver would have to be intelligent to blend output levels to directional subs with global still there for overall sub feel/impact.
@austin, I hear you. I think it would work in the sense that already we have multi-sub working for the LFE channel. What remains is directing the HPF signals from respective speaker channels to the nearest Subs. That would keep the HTP-1 competitive in comparison to the competition as would have e.g. 7.5.4
Any potential for additional channel modules...20, 24, 28? Wonder if this is where "HTP-2" may come in play, realizing an increase in price would be warranted. Some people are building bigger HTs.
Perlisten makes incredible speakers plus they measure extremely well. Ryan is an authorized dealer if you decide to go that direction. Email him at ryan@ascendav.net and tell him Youthman sent ya.
The Atmos object rendering table might be out of wack for having such an oddball configuration... Ear height to overhead plane ratio. I'm sure there would need to be more ear level speakers to balance out 8 overheads than 7. That would then necessitate a bigger and more expensive surround processor model. The next step up from 9.1.6 is 11.1.8, probably for a reason in the Atmos x/y/z panning coordinates design.
@@srtswpak47 But does it have an issue with consumer Atmos gear? Remember, the Atmos mixing software is for both consumer and commercial versions of Atmos. There is no distinction until you select the format you want and render out your track. Consumer rendering tables for consumer electronics may work differently than the much more flexible commercial theater version of Atmos. Not all consumer gear is like the software based Trinnov Altitude. Most use a SOC solution that is hard coded.

Hobie was the best guest. So honest and transparent. He can be on every week.
Really enjoyed our conversation with Hobie. He’s the real deal
Great information on the HTP-1 and a great attitude as well. You will be in my prayers too, Hobie.
Get well Hobie 💪🏼
Props to MonoPrice for going from the Ross of av supplies,to a competitive HT/AV manufacturer
I was looking into the HTP to replace my bug-king AV-40 but was sorry to see that it doesn't allow for bi-amping, making it a less than optimal match for my Gato + Focal Maestro's...
And now Monoprice pushed the availability date back again to June 2023. I thought Hobie said they "have the parts."
Part of the issue is that they are reliant on ATI to do the engineering and manufacturing. It's really their processor distributed by Monoprice, just like the Monolith power amps.

Waiting for the Monolith avr.
I love my HTP-1. It's been rock solid.
Nice! It was when I reviewed it as well
@Youthman I tried the Emotiva prior, but was too buggy. After upgrading Dirac for multiple subs everything changed for the better.

htp1 or arcam avr 40. They are both hdmi 2.0 at $4000. What do you guys think
I have the htp-1 and I really wish I had gone with a Marantz with 2.1. That's just my experience.
Problem with earc is like lg doesn't support dts or higher so you can't pass that through. So as a pc media center guy I need hdmi 2,1
I wish the HTP-1 had one more output: 9.4.4
The CES story about the Denon engineers makes me think that a future update for HTP-1 should include Directional Subwoofer outputs......

Not sure. Only time will tell
What’s you opinion on using perlisten speakers with beryllium tweeter for home theater?

Could the HTP-1 ever support 8 height channels (4 heights + 4 in-ceilings like Dolby's 11.1.8 spec for example) for 7.1.8?
I’m not sure. That would be a question for Hobie

@@dan_hitchman007 Dolby's Atmos Studio Design tool doesn't show any issues with 7.1.8 for what that's worth

@@dan_hitchman007 Yeah, I hear you. Great questions. That's why I'm asking if the HTP-1 can step up to plate and support .8.
Great video. Very informative
And guess who wants to upgrade ,hmmmm
Answer: NOPE! ...apparently not 😉
Take care of your health! Thanks.
