- In this video, Ryan Dowdall (TD, The Power Place) goes over how to tune and tech your Snare Drum. He also goes over mic placement. There are many ways to change heads, and many tones to be found when it comes to drum tuning. This is a focus on Snare Drum, for Worship and Rock music with Engineers in mind. this guy just stood on top of a 1k snare drum......... freaking legend
Glad you posted this video super helpful great to know Ryan he is the GOAT !!!
Great vid guys! Thanks for taking the time
Great job! Now we need a tom and bass drum video!
A video for toms is almost done! For the kick, just press on it with your body weight and do finger tight. Throw a pillow or blanket inside to dampen it and you are good to go. We won't have a video for that.
Great video.
I definitely will NOT be standing on my snare drum anytime soon though!! Lol
Thanks! HAHA yeah it's not for everybody, but it works for me!
Lots of good suggestions. However recommend fitting butt end snare wire end fitting first as the position won’t move like the strainer end.
You say that the snare wires you have fitted are Puresound. Unfortunately this is incorrect as (1) Puresound have straight ended brass end plates (2) Puresound don’t make more than 30 strand snare wires not 40 (3) these are probably Gibraltar 42 strand wires - still great wires though!!
🤘😁🥁👍
Thanks for this information... really appreciate it... can you do one with tuning toms too?
Toms video is coming up next! It was filmed and just needs to go through the editing process.
Solid video but I’m not standing on my Black Beauty or any of my snares for that matter! 😳😁 Instead, I tighten the top head really tight and let it sit overnight, then tune the next day. I also tune the top head to about 300hz so the fundamental of the drum ends up about a G or G# but this is more Bohnam than big fat snare sound.
I just got my Tunebot and changing my 14in Snares with Evans Hydraulic. I would like to tune the batter to 196.0Hz/G3 and the reso 196.0Hz/G3, how do I set in the Tunebot. Thanks
Slowly bring the drum up until it gets to the 190+ area and then hit filter after you make a lug read what your shooting for. I would tune the reso head a bit higher then that though. But hey if you like that sound go for it!
@@thepowerplaceproduction Thanks for the advice what is your recommendation tune for the reso. When you say get to the 190+ area is it the centre or the lug.
Uses a black beauty as a ladder. Epic
Hey dude awesome video, have you ever gotten weird tones from the throw on the black beauty? I feel like mine has had this weird hum ever since I changed my heads. Ive tried dampening the bottom skin, the top (obviously) but I still seem to get that humm. Any rec's would be greatly appreciated!! Cheers
Thanks! Yeah actually I have. Usually for me it means the bottom is too loose. Also the BB snare is really sensitive to how the strainers are on and how the head is on. If both aren’t perfectly straight it can do some weird things in the lows. This snare has made me a better drum tech for sure because it doesn’t help you out it makes you work for it. But when you get it right it’s really great. Hope that helps! Also make sure your rack Tom isn’t too low or too high on the bottom. That can cause some resonance with the snare cause it’s so close too it.
Sorry buddy,
U made a massive mistake due tuning the Bottom head.
👆
I have got the same tunebot on my own.
When u use the tunebot on the Bottom head and u go near or over 400 hertz u must use the high frequency Button on the tunebot.
Otherwise it could be u allways get 400hertz because in normal Mode the tunebot can't detect higher.
It is it's maximum
When u Hit the high frequency Button the tunebot will be able to detect more than 400 hertz 😉
U r welcome 😉🤟🥁🤟
Never knew that! Thanks for sharing I’ll have to try that out!
42 strand ???
42 strand! So responsive and dark sounding!
@@thepowerplaceproduction what brands do you use?
Pure sound
The SM57 is too flat. It should angled more towards the center of the drum…
Too much messing about man its a black beauty it can almost tune itself 😂
None of his techniques matters since he used the tunebot anyways 🤣 and its a troll you show beginners to stand in the snare with your dirty ugly shoes ✌️.. thanks for the effort making this video anyways.. and by the way all the effort got wasted from tuning the bottom head cause you just stand on it and you need to retune it again
Sounds like a cardboard box
