Shane looked like a tutorial for a fighting game at the beginning, when he did the jabs and the lead kick I imagined two squares and two x, for the backfist a back triangle and back circle with for spinning kick. Shane confirmed for the next Tekken
that is what you think. If you will meet one who is good in kicking defense, I doubt if you can still react once you ve have tumbled to the ground with the kicking defender going with to the ground.
Absolutely love this. After having studied karate for years, I now train in a gym with a boxing focus. This makes it much easier to frame all of it into a consistent picture
Great analogies! Really useful stuff, I use similar ideas all the time when teaching. I find that comparing the side kick to a straight punch helps people to get a straighter kick, instead of doing a bad roundhouse instead. Personally though, I think the equivalent of the hook is the outside to inside crescent kick-it's a bit more in line with how the joints are used. The roundhouse is more of an overhand equivalent. And I usually compare the push kick or tepe to a shove. :)
Man I really appreciate this channel I just needed to take the time out to leave this comment because I have no money for martial arts training or a sensei but I do have a gym with a heavy bag and I’ve been watching your videos for soo long and it’s helped soo much. I swear people see me practicing and think I’ve trained in a dojo before that’s cuz Shane with fight tips is my sensei that and my own phone camera! I hope to make the money to get into a dojo one day but I know I’ll have a heightened advantage due to this page. Thank you so much!
Another thing to point out: while everyone knows that quick and clean punch retraction is important, a lot of fighters finish their kicks sloppily. If you're fighting full contact, you might end up open to your enemy and get blasted. In semi-contact, it might be even worse. Depending on the rules, the judges won't award points for kicks if they are not retracted properly - even if you hit your opponent. So when training kicks, don't forget to train the retraction phase. You wouldn't forget it when training your punches.
I enjoy your open minded approach. Keep that up please. I am specifically referencing the way you will utilize techniques in a way that makes sense and not just the way you may have been taught originally for the way most do it
Karate practicioner here. This is pretty much how i was taught to kick when i was a kid. That "snapness" of both punches and kicks is called "kime" in karate, which comes from japanese "kimeru" (決める: "to set", or "to fix"). It's all about controlling your technique all the way to the contact point, either with your arms or your legs :)))
As mostly a grappler these days, I don't see myself putting in the time to truly get good at kicks at this point, but it's cool to get an a lesson on the finer details of kicking.
@@MobiusCoin you guys misunderstand me. I mean to apply all those things and learn to kick all different targets. I was just saying if you manage to hit a solid shot in the balls then its over. No need to play by any rules in a real fight.
Hey buddy! Your videos are very informational, can you make a step by step guide to learn MMA or Muay Thai or any other fighting style for beginners and continuing it to advanced level, AT HOME, coz i don't have access to a self defence gym around my place. I know there are ton of videos but they are disconnected, I'm talking about a series where you give us direction maybe 2 days a week or so like follow along, to condition our body, learn the stances, learn how to throw kicks, punches etc but in a proper sequence so that we don't end up getting injured. Thanks man!
That side kick looks pretty, would you care to make a tutorial? I don't think it's a traditional style, it's a more hybrid like the roundhouse tutorial you made time ago...
Yes, I believe as MMA moves forward you will see aspects of the traditional arts gaining recognition in the sport. Thanks for all the great content Shane.
Hey Shane, would love if you could upload some heavybag rounds. I think its great to just watch and learn people practising. Maybe on insta TV? Would't need commentary, just to learn by watching your combos and flow.
Love it, I did Thai boxing for years and just love kicking, the question is I want to get back into some form of the arts but should it be Thai or taekwondo of which I haven't done.
The similarities are there, but only go so far. When you throw a punch, your entire body is not off-balance. The legs are also more limited in terms of what they can do. However, yes, in terms of kicking, IF you can land solid, a kick can be a one "punch" knock-out because they're (usually) stronger than arms, and let you keep your distance from your attacker, but they're also much more limited in what they can do.
Hi Shane, first of all, I like your work, and the reflexions you have about body mecanics. Sometimes we want so much power that it become obvious, and less effective... And i wondered if you have ever considered Savate for its technically aspects ? Hope To see some details about it one day. Keep it smart !
Hey, Shane! Can you do a video giving taller fighters boxing strategies? All the videos I can find it’s to help smaller people and I could really use some fight tips as a taller guy! Hope you take my comment in consideration, thanks!
Great video! My coach tells me i should hit more with the shin and less with the ball of the foot, because i only kick with the shin when i kick from a short distance... And it should be more powerfull if i hit like that... My sparring partners say i kick harder with the ball of the foot :P
This is like the ufc 3 type of striking when u mix with l1 or R1 you get the same type of strikes and variables from punches and kicks (i know just a few understood what I meant)
I’ve been keeping up with your content and was curious about if this is your only youtube channel. I’ve been learning a lot of good striking, but I would like to get your thoughts on retreat striking whenever your opponent is backing you up
You haven't mentioned using the hips to push into the opponent's body the same way you use your shoulders to either whip the punch or to push through the target
Mr. Shane, hoping you could see my message. Do you think lifting heavy weights on legs can prevent you from being flexible? I've been doing your tips for splits and flexibility for years now and i still cant be flexible, maybe because because of having muscles on my glutes and hamstrings, can it be the reason why I cant be flexible?
Hi I watched your video on cutting weight for a fight, currently in the 5 day period drinking 2 gallons of water. Does the heavy sweating need to happen from now or only when the water levels drop?
Since your equating the arm punches to leg kicks, do you leave you leg relaxed as your kicking and then tighten it at the point of impact like you would a punch?
I may sound dumb but what is this fighting style/martial art with the wider stance, cool kicks and punches? It doesn't look like any martial art I know so I am asking
Is it a strength problem or a flexibility one? If it's strenght try to implement a lot of movements in your training where you have to lift your leg high sideways. For chambering you mostly need the abductors, gluteus and abs (the ones on the side). You need to build up a better mind-muscle control by showing your body that you need to contract exactly those muscles. Try to chamber as often as possible and maybe even do it everyday a bit
Michelle Waterson did a video on that like a year or two back. It works on every aspect of tkd style kicking. It's on her ig @karatehottiemma idk if it can be found anywhere else. You probably won't be able to do the full movements the first time but with some practice you'll get there
Who would win wrestlers or boxers Wrestlers can do any wrestling move and no allowed to hit. boxer cannot wrestle they can only hit and kick...i think wrestler but what do you think

You play to many games
You don't know tekken notations mate?
Yes I completely agree he would beat that tournament
in tekken 6 you can give steve fox dreadlocks and he looks like shane
It's also a lot harder for someone to catch your kicks if you've got a nice fast snap on them.
that is what you think. If you will meet one who is good in kicking defense, I doubt if you can still react once you ve have tumbled to the ground with the kicking defender going with to the ground.
Good examples of a reminder I'm fond of repeating to my students, "Every kick is a step and every step is a kick."

This is one of the best videos on kicks that I have ever seen.
Comprehension is the key attribute of your videos

Rip Vince's fight is literally during the start of my exam

2:58 I don't know why but I'm laughing how you correct being slightly unbalanced from the mat crease.
you have some beautiful kicks my friend

How about kicking the balls in a real fight.

Awesome video 😁 I made this realization 4 years ago. People (TMAs) need to stop mimicking animals we are not designed to mimic.
That side kick looks pretty, would you care to make a tutorial? I don't think it's a traditional style, it's a more hybrid like the roundhouse tutorial you made time ago...
This is a very underrated and undertrained aspect of martial arts, especially in the new age of MMA.
Agreed, but I think it will be the future of MMA for those who excel with their kicks
Yes, I believe as MMA moves forward you will see aspects of the traditional arts gaining recognition in the sport. Thanks for all the great content Shane.

I'd love to but my hips disagree x)
You should vlog Vince’s fight
