This video seriously helped me, i'm in the process of three-stepping as of right now and thinking about my landing as well as my plant step was something i didnt even think could be causing my hesitance to go over. Thank you!
Hey coach any tips for working with kids who are capable of 3-stepping (good speed, looks great over 36" barriers discounted by 18-24" in practice), but are not confident and keep regressing to 5-stepping at full height & distance in meets (bad habits they learned in previous season before I started working with them) Biggest issue I've identified is their takeoff is too close to the hurdle and we haven't figured out how to move that backwards. thinking of trying cone/tape marks to indicate exact stride locations to 1st & 2nd hurdle - anything else you'd recommend? should we do some work at 39" and/or full distance in practice to build confidence? i believe it's mostly a mental & muscle-memory issue.
What helped me, is doing 1 step drills. 8 Hurdles, all 8 feet apart. Work lead leg, and trail leg, with 1 step between each. (Almost like a gliding motion between hurdles). I do 3 sets, then I will increase the height up 3 inches, every two hurdles. (36,36,39,39,42,42). The last two hurdles should be race height. It helped me a lot adjusting, and over all confidence.
Hey coach I just finished my first ever season of track and I can 3 step but I do it in long strides and I sometimes switch lead and trail legs in 110 race . Any time tips help me run faster inbetween the hurdles and fix the switching trail and lead leg issues. My 400 hurdle time is 68 I only got it timed once and my 110 hurdle is 19 flat.
If you are five stepping right now, would u reccomend learning 4 step before 3? I’m newer to hurdles but I’m having a really hard time 4 stepping because of the switch leg.

I agree with all of your ideas to fix that.
