Personal review of shrub rose “ bring me Sunshine” from

- I have been simply itching to bring you my personal review of this, utterly fabulous rose
This is “ Bring me Sunshine” introduced by @david_austin_roses in 2022
Every time I see this rose, it stops me in my tracks
Reaching well in excess of 5 to 6 feet. This large shrub is going to need some support. My suggestion is much like Claire Austin can you give this plant an obelisk or post and grow up as a statement plant ,
I’ve surrounded mine with some Peasticks to create a very basic wigwam and the effect is very pleasing.
Coming into flower in mid June this rose will still be in flower well into October. Rewarding you with hundreds and hundreds of flowers, great disease, resistance vigour and a fast repeat. Makes this an all round winner in my opinion.
The foliage is Matt light green and it’s the background for a beautiful deeply cupped flowers that are heavily rosetted and packed with hundreds of petals. It is nowhere near as brass or coppery as the DA website and catalogue make it out to be, it’s a rich decadent, bright gold, which simply radiates colour
Virtually thornless it’s really easy to handle, but in tests at home, shatters within a few days when brought into the house and placed in a vase
The fragrance is a strong mirth with notes of sandalwood cloves redwood leather with a hint of pepper. The kind of fragrance that carries beautifully on a warm summers evening.
fragrance rating 7.5⭐️s
this new introduction will make it very very comfortably into my most recommended top five David Austins, bearing in mind, t his is now review 100. That’s a strong accolade indeed.

Bring Me Sunshine has very quickly turned into one of my very favorites this year! OMG- tthe fragrance!! Due to your advice on height, I planted it on the corner of my outdoor covered patio. It gets 5-6 hours of sunlight daily, and now still only about 2.5-3 ft tall,, I STILL get an amazing whiff of it with a soft breeze. The blooms are this amazing golden color, and now in its 2nd flush- are huge!! I truly LOVE this rose, and will likely order another one next year for my front yard.
I love your reviews; your personality, knowledge and enthusiasm. Because of you, I want Bring Me sunshine. She is on the top of my list for 2025

Ben ,David Austin are now selling Bring me sunshine 🌞 as a climber as well as a shrub.A friend bought one as a shrub ,but it has grown alot taller than the 4ft !!!
@@kenwilkins8237 they are all the same plants it will depend on how you prune and care for it mine is over 8 feet tall
I love the color of this one. I really like that shirt too - very sharp 😊
It's beautiful. I've found that Gentle Hermione and Lady of Shallot also don't cut well, but they're gorgeous roses and I love them. I will add Bring me Sunshine to the top of my list, because my favourite colour is yellow. I have Country Parson, but the thorns...oh God the thorns. I live in fear of pruning it.
I often watch with CC (closed captions) on, and get some happy errors. At about 5.00 you appear to say "David Awesome roses" (can't disagree with that) and at 5.30 you describe the rose as having "a rich mirth fragrance." I'd love a rose with that fragrance!
Thanks for review! I was just notified my order of Bring me Sunshine is on its way!!! I had no idea when I ordered it last fall, as I am totally new to growing roses in my garden. 🤞😊
Enjoy it it’s a stunner
Bring me Sunshine is going to bring me smiles!! It's Stunning!
Thanks Ben. A great review as always. Been looking forward to this. I am having trouble containing and supporting it😂. Definelty larger than 4 feet. An obelisk is an interisting idea , might give it a try.
Je confirme tout ce qui est dit ici ! Ma première (toute première) rose est très cruivrée. Un rosier fan-tas-tique ! Le parfum !!! Merci pour la découverte - Merci David Austin Roses !
I was going to buy this based on the name alone, but you’ve really sold me on it!! 😊
@@TheFragrantBunch it’s now held my number one most recommended david Austin Rose spot for two years consecutively
Thanks, Ben. Terrific review!
Just found this's review & love it.
I bought this rose to plant in remembrance of my cat who passed away a few days before purchasing. Was hoping it would have the brassy overtones that you mentioned were showing on the website to reflect him being a ginger cat (a large Norwegian Forest). I
doubt I will be disappointed from what you’ve said about this rose, but it might give me an excuse to get another one more once BMS has settled in … we’ll see
What’s a lovely way to remember your beloved four legged friend, I hope it makes you smile and think of them whenever it flowers
The blooms do vary in colour, much more brass in coppery at the beginning and very end of the season and much more vivid gold during warmer weathers. Either way it is breathtakingly, beautiful, highly fragrant disease, resistant, and vigourous.
I’m sold!
Oh brilliant!
Really appreciate these reviews! Great info! This rose is a pleasant surprise, think many may have overlooked it
Well “Bring Me Sunshine” is a perfect name for this beautiful bright sunshine yellow rose‼️I’m so happy it also scores high on your fragrance ranking‼️this one’s going on my must have list‼️Thanks sir another exciting positive review‼️🥰❤️ Debbie ~ Texas 🇺🇸

Just received notice that the Albrighton Rambler bare root rose is out of stock after having pre-ordered it and was having such a difficult time selecting a replacement rose. Your review of the Bring Me Sunshine sold me instantly and I am so excited to get it started in 2024!
I hope you like it
Wonderful, love your videos
Thank you for explaining about the planter you have it in. So 40 cm x 40 cm = 15.74 inches (for those of us in the USA). Will that need to be upgraded in a couple of years? So happy it has such fragrance! Wonderful review!
They went on the US website this morning. I got two and I am hoping they do as well as yours.
Received bring me sunshine today, also received a black baccara rose from a unmentioned company. The difference in the quality of the product, Plant size, pot size, packaging and over all health of the David Austin rose is second to none. That's my second David Austin rose in a week with another coming in a matter of days. For just a couple more pounds the difference in quality is staggering. I'm totally sold now with the company and all my future purchases will be through David Austin. I'll certainly be purchasing many more in the very near future.
That’s great to hear I’m pleased - enjoy your roses, please do use the shopping Link in any of my posts or in my bio for future purchases , you will
Also see the new the releases hear with me first
@@the_gardenerben most definitely Ben, and it's very much appreciated. Thoroughly enjoying your videos.
Hey Ben, when are you doing your updated top 20?? 👀👏😁 Definitely a few spots in my garden that could fit a few more roses ... Love love the enthusiasm in your videos!!
Hi, and thank you for your message, and apologies for the delay in bringing you my new top 20 and a few of my best of collections. My garden is taking a much deserved rest and I don’t have a huge amount in flower just as soon as the second flush really kicks in and I have some roses to show you. I will be re-filming some bits for you.
Beautiful rose, love the deep cupped bowl and taller the better. l prefer it to Elizabeth. I am going to add this to my collection as so far l have no yellow roses. Yours looks much nicer than the one advertised by DA. I am going to grow a border of yellow roses, with purple salvia and blue nepeta.
Sounds lovely
Hi Ben, thank you for the review!! Could you comment on the how this one compared to golden celebration? Thanks!!
You’re most welcome I’m pleased that you enjoyed it. I’m not sure if you’re aware, but this rose now holds my number one most recommended. David Austin ranked position storming to the top after its full personal review in 2023.
This in my opinion is going to get much larger than golden celebration is bloom is much more uniform and cupped giving a much more tidy appearance to the flower
Fragrance wise. They are very comparable both rating highly with myself on the fragrance bring me sunshine getting a 7/8 ⭐️
And golden celebration a 6⭐️ the biggest difference you’re going to see is in the disease resistance, golden celebration in my growing experience, even when deeply mulched and receiving focused watering does have the tendency to go into stress and drop its leaves or succumb to blackspot bring me sunshine seems at this point to be bomb performing in all weather conditions
Ooooh! You almost have me sold, lol! 🌹How does it compare to Graham Thomas?
Well I'm sold. Looks like I'm moving some 12 foot acers to accommodate this beauty.
I hope you enjoy it. Should you need a link to shop and a discount code please let me know this would be valid for the UK and Europe only
@@the_gardenerben that's very much appreciated, I'll certainly get back to you regarding that. Just ordered silas marner for the front garden. Have the perfect spot for it. South facing and has a little bit of cover from a 12 foot black tulip magnolia.
As always very comprehensive review, Ben. Which two yellow roses you would recommend out of these three, The Poet's wife rose, Molineux, Bring me sunshine. I only have space for two yellow roses in the garden. Still considering new release Emma Bridgewater.
That’s a really difficult choice definitely bring me sunshine and I would stay out of the two. I would go with Molineux there’s something enchanting about the way it holds its flowers although it has no fragrance it’s an incredibly hard-working rose phones a nice shaped plant
@@the_gardenerben many thanks Ben. I already have Molineux, The Poet's wife rose and Graham Thomas rose.
I’ve just ordered the bare root from DA!!! Can you show the pot you’re growing it in please 🙏
@@carolwilliams3224 the pots mine are in are far to small they are 40x40x40

Hi Ben. One corner of my yard with a tall wire elk fence in full sunshine will these roses habit and color wise be compatible: Bring me Sunshine, Scepter'd Isle, Scarborough Faire, and the Lark Ascending? And Gabriel Oak will not be far away. Thanks for your help, Sheila
@@sheilamoran9687 hey I’m not one for colour theming or matching I mix everything together I love the clash so personally it’s a yes from me but it’s your garden so your rules
@ thank you. I also don’t color or theme match. I just didn’t know if the yellow/gold of Bring me sunshine would clash or look ugly next to apricot Lark ascending. I am reassured. My general design rule is if I love something then it will probably look great with the other things I love. Wishing you and tour husband cozy, happy holidays!
@ if you love it l, it will work x
I've been longing yellow rose.
If I grow this as a small climber as you suggest, tied into a wall, would I prune it like a climber or normal prune every spring to 15 cm?
It’s a very good question, it’s not something I’ve done just yet I’m going to try and Teir prune mine, this winter as I grow them up obelisks, so a halfway house between climber and shrub
Thanks Ben. Will see how you do; should be interesting to see if it can turn out to flower well as a small climber!
I am having a hard time getting this beauty
@@huynguyentoantin what’s your location?

Ben, how many Bring me Sunhine have you planted there? I'd like to get a similar effect in my garden. Do I need one only or maybe two?
Hi Mr. Anderson. I will be purchasing Bring Me Sunshine. I live in North Carolina (zone 7b) with high humidity and conducive for proliferation of blackspots. In your experience, is Bring Me Sunshine resistant to blackspots?
There’s a good reason it’s my no 1 most recommended DA rose out of the 115 I’ve reviewed
Hahaha.... Mic drop. 😂😂😂
I was waiting for this review after your first impressions last year. I knew it was a rose I would want and this just confirms it ☺ I REALLY hope this will be released in the US next year. How would you say this compares to The Poet's Wife? I know it's a bigger plant than TPW, but what about fragrance and bloom size?
The poets wife has larger blooms more fragrance but BMS far far out preforms it
This just went on the US website this morning. I bought two. Better check it out soon. They always sell out so fast.
Hi Ben, love your videos! Got a bare root of bring me Sunshine last Autumn and it’s coming on nicely! Earlier intended for it to be in a big pot in my back garden, now wish to place it in the same planter near the main door.It is less sheltered , but the red fragrant rose next to it ( in ground) has been thriving. Do you think it is a good place for this one? Do you think I should put up a trellis or obelisk( it’s already getting buds, so difficult to get one over it?) Thanks!
This rose works well in all situations personally I wouldn’t go for a trellis, vine eyes and wire or a freestanding obberlisk would be my choice
@@the_gardenerbenthank you Ben, ordered two freestanding obelisks! Can’t wait for the blooms to bloom . Also just ordered Eustacia Vye , do u think it will fare well with the obelisk as well.. ? I must say your excitement for roses is infectious, thank you so much for all the lovely videos!🙏🏼🌹
@@samgal609 I hope you have been making the most of my affiliate links and discount codes ? Eustacia vye is self supporting although I do give mine a decretive wigwam
@@the_gardenerbenthats great thank you! I did get a discount code from David Austin. I do follow you on TH-cam , but I am not on instagram. So didn’t know about your discount codes.🙄
Anyways, now thanks to you I have three great ones.. bring me sunshine, Eustacia vye ( bare root)and Gabriel Oak. So looking forward for them to bloom.
Hello. The David Austin website says that Bring Me Sunshine is shade tolerant. Would you agree? Might it be grown against a wall as a short climber?
I grow both of mine on a north, facing aspect and they do exceptionally well I would think it will perform very well as a short timer and will easily make 8 to 10 feet in my opinion
Hello Ben, Did you grow this rose in full sun or half shadow. I just planted one a week ago in half shadow area mainly evening to mid sun in Germany?
It will grow very well in any aspect but mine are actually being grown on a north facing aspect where they get afternoon son only and as you can see from the photos I upload on Instagram TH-cam and TikTok they’re doing incredibly well now into their third year and being pruned to a permanent framework of around 18 inches from the floor floor they already stand 8 feet tall this year
Hi Ben. What would you say are the main differences between Molineux and Bring me Sunshine?
SIZE ! Molineux is 3x3 feet tinged with peach/pink BMS is big up to 7/8 feet
Could a pillar of a pergola be a good place for Bring me sunshine?
It would be absolutely perfect
Hello Ben, how this rose performs in shady area? I am planning to plant it near north side of my house where it will receive 2-3 hrs of sunlight. Will it bloom in such conditions?
I hate to say it but no rose is really going to perform particularly well on a north elevation. Very few roses will tolerate 2 to 3 hours of sunlight per day. Most need at least four or five in my experiences rose does best on the South or west aspect, receiving plenty of sunlight, there is the new release for 20 2 3 from david Austin Dannahue , This rose thrives in low light levels and was even in flower at Christmas, proving that it will perform very well in shaded areas receiving just four hours of sunlight per day. That may be a better choice for you. Let me know if you are in the UK, or in Europe, as I can provide a discount code and link to shop.
@@the_gardenerben Thank you Ben for your response. I am located in Michigan, USA. Dannahue is not released in North America as of now. I have seen your other video regarding shade tolerant rose varieties. I think I will go with Port sunlight and Road dahl.
@@MrAnkit3000 I’m more than happy to help.
