Tobin said in a recent interview that he filmed everything on the DL and then decided he should reach out to Netflix right before he was going to post the first video to get permission. That’s when Netflix gave him the animation to help the vlogs fit in more with the style of the show, and they also helped him set up his TH-cam account.
Tobie did the right thing, as Netflix would not have been happy if he simply vlogged and uploaded without asking them. However Netflix were never going to say no to Tobie, as this was brilliant PR for the show.
Imagine your very first acting job and you land Heartstopper. Nothing like starting at the top
From what I understand this was an abandoned and quite run down school that they came in and spruced up certain areas used for shooting.
Just went to watch Yasmin Finney’s trans pride speech. Beaming. I was actually fine until she started talking about Marsha P. Johnson-almost 30 years to the day that we lost her-and then I got choked up. I’m so excited to see this cast go out into the world and represent the community. They are just all so fantastic. 🙏 Also, Tobie’s rugby pose. I can’t. 😂😂😂
The school is in Slough. The beach in the finale is in Hearn Bay.
One of the very first things that they were shooting was the very last clip of the show. After Nick’s coming out to his mom, the shot goes back to the beach scene with the angle from above which then turns into the comic. They shot this on set, on a square of pebbles and next to a parking lot and a portable toilet. NOT at the beach. I’ve seen a picture of that pebble square and always wondered about this. Now I know where to put it.
I had registered for a one hour webinar on zoom with Euros Lyn where he mentioned this.
He also said that 2 weeks of rehearsals isn’t the usual procedure of making a tv show. They chose this approach because most of the cast was so inexperienced.
Netflix actually helped Tobie edit these vlogs. That's why it looks professional.
Not true actually…, he did everyone himself … but they did supply the animations xx
The school where they did most of the Truham exterior shots is the now-closed E-Act Park Burnham Academy in Slough. If you search for pictures of the school online, you can instantly recognize scenes from the show.
Love these vlogs! It's so fun getting to see behind the scenes and see the cast being themselves.
Hi - you will notice in the vlogs that Kit doesn't feature much in them. He rarely speaks, and there is one fantastic moment when Tobie tries to coax some words out of Kit, who flatly refuses to speak, it is so funny. Kit is very camera shy when filming movies or TV shows. Off camera, he is good fun, but when a vlogging camera is around he goes shy, which is why he rarely speaks.

The majority of Heartstopper was filmed in Slough. They just went to Herne Bay for the beach scene. And you’ll love Herne bay, it’s one of my favourite places. I’ve joked I want to retire there. Hahaha
And I’m so jealous of you for only just watching the vlogs, I wish I could see them for the first time again. They are so much fun and I just love Tobie and everyone else.

Tobie had told netflix that he made the vlogs, and they helped him put them all together 🥰 as at first they were just for him to keep. So he can look back on them in years to come

@@JackieRossLavender Hi, I literally burst out laughing when you said where was Windsor Castle? My brother sat next to me watching this said to you "the clue is in the name". We know Windsor so well, the beautiful town in Berkshire where Her Majesty currently stays.
