"elevating the value of our scraps " I love that ! thank you so much for that very inspiring video that gives me hope about the amount of bits and pieces i'm keeping... 🥰🥰😊😊❤❤
I'm so glad you found the video inspiring! I know how much we can get attached to our scraps and hate to throw them away, but they deserve more attention, I think!
Scraps are the foundation of our junk journaling. It is the highlight of our crafting to put the perfect scrap to good use😊. I do donate to a school the big scraps and patterned paper that does not turn my crank. Kids will use anything and then turn it into something. I do mainly cards but do some scrapbooking and junk journaling as well as paper projects. Great video✂️
I am so like you in your sorting, storage and keeping grandchildren “treasures”!! 😊♥️ Thank you for sharing your methods. It’s great to hear I’m not the only one whose family questions my collecting.😂
Very timely video as I have set a goal to better manage my scraps this year. I have already sorted cardstock into color families, but I really like what another commenter said about warm, cool, neutral. And my plan is to use them for punches and die cutting. I have not tackled the patterned paper. I am a card maker and I’ve recently rediscovered my card templates, I will be making some “card kits” (base and cut pieces to assemble put in an envelope, add to a bag with the card templates). Then when I’m traveling I can just grab a bag of “kits” and my craft-to-go box and have a good time without bring a half my craftroom with me! I do like to make clusters with my scraps which is one thing you didn’t mention.
We are all guilty of keeping lots of scraps. I’ve tried many methods of storing but every now and again I spend time making up items and then I’m ruthless and bin stuff. I’ve started discarding all leftovers each time I complete a journal. That helps too. Of course, as soon as I rid myself of anything, within a day or two I find I need it. Can’t win sometimes if you are a crafter. Tfs 😊
Bin Regret? I hear ya! I keep everything for exactly that reason but there comes time when I will have to be realistic. I would rather have the space! Thanks for sharing! I'm glad it's not just me!
I too have multiple bins of scraps! I sort them by color group- cool (blues, greens, periwinkles), warm (reds, pinks, yellows, purples), and neutrals (blacks, browns, whites). I use cellophane packaging and food storage bags to isolate colors and patterns within each bin. When I clean out a bin I organize by size and purpose, creating kits for cards & bookmarks & master sheets & collage.
I love how you organize your scraps! It sounds like a system that works for you! Your idea of creating a purpose made kit is fabulous! Thanks so much for sharing!
My scraps are from card making and scrapbooking (haven't made a jj yet). Mine are separated by color/color group and then size. They are in 12x12, 8x11 page protectors or 5x6 baggies. I am really liking your method, and this video! Thank you for sharing❤
I’ve started gluing a lot of mine in a composition notebook. It makes it handy to have a bunch of master boards to cut up and use as tags etc. or to make mixed media art projects. Also, if I never use them for anything they look pretty cool as a glue book or art journal 😊❤Also, I’ve started tossing a lot because I don’t have room to store stuff, and often forget about my scraps anyway.😊❤
I love the idea of using a composition notebook as a masterboard source! That's clever! I applaud you for tossing some of the scraps and understanding your space.
One idea I like to use my scraps for is I am also a card maker. But I love to make collaged vintage or mixed media kind of cards. And usually as inspiration cards to gift or use. If we can make collages for journal cards. We can turn them into Christmas cards or all different themes. Loved this supply sort. Thanks.
I organize my scraps by colour in a hanging file. I sometimes go to ridiculous ends to use scraps and not cut into paper, so I don’t have a lot of scraps, but in the long run it is not time well spent. I make masterboards, clusters, but mostly I die cut my small pieces.
I want to be like you! I need to use my scraps more. Masterboards and clusters are my go to, but great idea for die cuts! I don't have die cuts, but you gave me a great suggestion for using my punches and I'm going to use this in my next video! Thank you!!!
Both! Take a look on Etsy for the junk journals that are for sale! Not all junk journal makers sell their journals. Many make them for themselves to write in and keep their memories, similar to scrapbooking.
There’s something about scraps that always inspire me to create.
That's great and you make a good point! Our scraps can inspire us to create - I love that!

It's a good thing we're not alone in our junk journaling ways! 😁
Extremely helpful to categorize my bin. Thank you for some great tips. 🌸
I'm so glad you found this helpful! This video is a bit of a bore, but I'm happy some are finding useful tips because our scraps deserve better!

This comment is everything!!!! That's awesome! I love the idea of "card kits"! It makes sense to create clusters with scraps! Thanks for watching!

Super happy you video showed up on my feed today. Thanks from a fellow Ontario Junk Journal Maker
It’s great to connect with other Ontario junk journal makers! I'm glad we bumped into each other! Thanks for watching Sandra.

I love that you use scraps for card making! Thanks for sharing your ideas, Kym! and thanks for watching!
I recycle scrap bundles into making paper pulp for homemade paper sheets
Ah yes! I forgot about this idea and it's one of the best! Thanks so much for reminding me, Rhonda!

Are all the Junk Journals kept by the maker for personal use or are they sold?

I gift mine.
