The CMP 1911 I got was in great condition.
Replacing all the springs fixed the reliability issues. Recoil spring was especially weak

Yea, they are a little pricey, I love my 1911a1 from cmp, but if your not a collector it's better getting a new springfield 1911. Mine is a service grade from round 4.

The CMP honestly enjoys the fact that they make us pay full price for some absolute scrappers. They put the best M1’s and all the Carbines on Auction, and hand out the pitted and eroded ones, when one of the auction pieces sell for the price of two scrappers. I was lucky enough to get a 1952 SA with a good cartouche and generally good stock overall, and serviceable barrel. The rest were new manufacture stocks or dry rotted originals and pitted metal. So one out of eight service grades were actually good quality

I don't necessarily think they are trying to sham anyone. We are at the point where good surplus parts and good quality rifles are dried up. CMP received 80,000 M1s from the Phillipines a couple of years ago and a lot where left in ratty condition in questionable storage. Rather than all the guns being thrown away or cut up. CMP brought them back to anniston and tried to salvage what they could and give people an overall nice weapon. I've ordered several rack grades and have videos on my channel about them. I have no complaints sith them. I also might add that CMP offers affordable M1 garands to us and uses the funding to support youth marksmanship. Right now, they have service grades in stock, and I've heard reports of those guns being really nice. As for the carbines, they don't get big enough quantities of Carbines to sell through the grading process. So what they do get automatically goes to the action site

What is your sample size? I've seen many nice rifles coming out of Anniston as late as this month. The dry rot and pits are the rack grades and they are advertised as such with no deception. I've been buying CMP rifles for 20+ years and I got one of my nicest service grades ever last year. My remington/Ithaca Service Grade 1911 is easily worth the price I paid and then some.

My best friend recently got a M1A garande from CMP with numbers matching parts however the furniture was brand new!! In my opinion the better way to go!! It looked like a brand new rifle and I shot 9-10 rings at the range with a loose front sight!!

Most of the CMP guys are jolly old Santa Claus looking guys that just love and adore putting together old classic firearms and take nothing but great joy in seeing you smile with excitement when they hand one to you. They would love nothing better than to fill every man, woman and child's stockings with a 1911 or an M1 Garand this Christmas and they would gladly do that for simply a small glass of milk and a few cookies.

I've been mulling over the years about getting a CMP 1911 however i was able to get 2 original 1911's at local gun shops one which i have a friend that works there and let's me know when something interesting shows up. So i got an original 1918 Colt 1911 that's never been taken apart. Recently i got an all original Ithaca 1944 that apparently obtained from an estate sale. This gun belonged to a gentleman's great grandfather that was a B-17 crewman. If only this gun could talk. Im sure he's pleased with what i did with it. I had to completely strip the gun to clean it as it had WW-2 gunk in it! A complete conservation as mark from anvil on TH-cam has demonstrated. The only pravanence i found was under the grips had clear rubber panels from aircraft windows behind the grip panels. I found out from a knowledgeable person that they were used for sweetheart grips or to keep water from fouling up the magazine. To get the gun to run safe i unfortunately had to replace the internals and springs except for the barrel. The gun is also listed under Colts registry as well as Ithaca. It's weird that no inspector general cartoosh is on the frame but all numbers match it!!

I was part of round 1 and chose the service grade. It's an all matching late 45 production from RR. I've seen some really nice rack grades in round 4. Anyway I've been collecting since the mid 80's and heard the same negative comments about wasting my money on surplus junk when I could buy something new. I have a modern 1911 I purchased back in the mid 90's but for collecting it's not the same as what CMP is offering. Your not just buying a gun, your purchasing the history with it. So if your not a collector then you should spend your money a new 1911 whether its Colt of Springfield it doesn't matter and be happy. I'm currently in round 4 and should be getting a call sometime next month.

The feeding ramp is polished to a mirror sheen. The slide's been
reinforced. And the interlock with the frame is tightened for added precision.
The sight system is original, too. The thumb safety is extended to make it
easier on the finger. A long-type trigger with non-slip grooves. A ring
hammer... The base of the trigger guard's been filed down for a higher grip.
And not only that, nearly every part of this gun has been expertly crafted and
customized. Where'd you get something like this?

  • @kagyu1
    @kagyu1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

In hindsight, it’s not worth it. I got a decent mixmaster shooter. It’s an early Ithaca frame , that was a surplus Colt from WW1. The slide was a 1979 replacement . Paid $950 for round 2 Field Grade with replacement slide. I bought an Ithaca slide for it but hesitated to “ correct“ the rest of it. There is no added value to what you would spend to correct it . The price went up because the value of the dollar plummeted under Biden. I’ve seen Rack and Fields that are all original and some that looked like they were dragged behind a truck. I’ve shot it with decent accuracy at 45 yards after adding a USGI Match Grade Bushing . It’s clunky and honestly a mixed shooting experience, but I’ll hold onto it. I tried it in Action Pistol and it is difficult to run and gun with it. I think I would have been happier with a modern 1911. I was really pissed when I first bought it and brought it to my lgs. They said “ what’s wrong with it ?” I asked how often do they show up for consignment. He said “ they don’t , it’s a unicorn .” Collectors thumb their noses at these and consider them shooters. I have a love / hate relationship with it. only gi mags with full length tapered feed lips work with them . All mags , regardless of high price, that have hybrid feed lips don’t feed correctly. Wasted a lot of money learning this. Its main value is the repurposed WW1 slide and the USMC markings. If not for the USMC provenance , it would be hard to sell in the age of the Tisas.

A nice way to get an absolutely faithful modern replica of a GI issue 1911 is to get a Tisas 1911 A1. I paid $375 and $399 for two. I also got a Service Grade Tisas 1911 which is the same Government model for $410, but with a more modern dark finish. In essence I got 3 1911s for the price of one CMP Service Grade. These Tisas firearms have hammer forged barrel, slides, and frame. They are excellent.

Yeah but you supported Turkey which is a terrorist state destabilizing the Middle East and trafficking migrants into Europe. Ironic for wanting a classic patriotic gun huh?
Btw, it is specifically the Tisas "ASF" model that is close in accuracy to a a true 1911A1 (specifically a Remington Rand). All others only resemble an 1911A1 in the profile only but have differences that stick out.
Sell that muslim garbage for a Colt, Remington or even Ithaca.

In light of some pretty decent quality replicas for 1/3 the price of a rack grade and being a shooter, $1050 feels a bit pricey to me.

Doesn't work that way. The CMP 1911s are only out of the Anniston depot, so there's no ability to go "see" what you're buying. After you put your packet in, you just wait for your RNG to get called and you get what you get.

Getting a 1911 from the CMP is a good deal. I totally support them. i have a M-1911 A1 and an M-1 Garand. Getting the 1911 was like going to the soup Nazi on Seinfeld. They tell you what they have. You've been waiting patiently and you get the call. I don't wanna blow this, and I don't have time to research what the various grades are that are available. So I say, "Yes ma'am" and I sidestep away. That was my experience, and maybe I did to my self. I was EXCITED!

  • @sableliger327

I picked up a Field Grade M1 Garand in the early 2000s for 550. Not a bad rifle. Still shoots straight and true.
I threw my name in the hat for the 5th run. Already have a 1944 Ithaca/Rand 1911A1 I bought locally that cost me far more than what I would pay for a Service Grade off the CMP lottery.
I hope that if they call me; I’ll be getting a nice Service Grade 1911A1. 🤞🏼

Back in the early 1990s, I used to get a newspaper-style publication called THE SHOTGUN NEWS. all sorts of good deals in there for firearms and ammo.
I had curio FFL back then and bought a ww2 German p38 9mm for $300.00 shipped right to my door. For some reason I also bought a Canadian Inglis 9mm high power.
The same outlet had Remington Rand, Colt and Ithaca 1911a1 from ww2. these were also just below $300.
I figured I'd get around to getting them. I did not; and they were gone in no time.
I regret this. These were not mix and match thrown together cmp guns. I have no idea how they had 1911a1s from the 3 biggest contractors of ww2.
I'd love to have a Remington Rand ww2 1911a1. I have zero interest in a mix and match rebuild. half of the cmp guns coming out now have israeli made 1970s replacement slides.
Man I messed up royally. I'd trade the p38, and the hi power for a Remington Rand 1911a1 and I'd throw in some cash!!!!
I have no idea why I used my curio license to get those 2 pistols instead of grabbing some ww2 1911s.

Buy a new Colt Classic. Add an arched mainspring housing on it, the proper A1 Grips, and you have a legit Colt 1911 A1. The commercial models have always been nice blued. Or you can buy a Tisas US Army 1911 A1 that’s already parkerized and has the correct small sights. Put the proper surplus Army grips on it and you have an amazingly close copy to the Military Colt 1911 A1. It just won’t say Colt on it, it looks brand new, and it’s made in Turkey.

While I understand that the CMP sales help finance their other programs the prices are way to high for the average buyer and the quality isn't always
what one might expect for the price... want a good 1911??? go to your nearest gun store and pick out a new one... CMP isn't worth the cost... and by the way... go to the south stores if you're looking for a selection of rifles... seems the northern store has only Garands and can't seem to post their inventory on line.. a long way to drive for nothing
