    They could have just released this as the trailer for the movie and it would have been perfect.

      It actually would, cause it's unknowingly a summary of the whole plot on top of including the extravagant atmosphere and light hearted bits

      He was a pretty menacing presence throughout the film because he was a duke and dukes are known as very powerful people and that was the scary part, He was capable of anything and he could've won had Toulouse not interfered also I hated him because he was a fucking jerk!

    This is one of my favorite songs in the movie! :D What makes it even better is that, in-universe, NONE of the characters planned any of this. They're literally making up an entire elaborate song and dance on the fly, using whatever props they can grab and whatever comes into their heads. And somehow they A. communicate everything perfectly to each other and B. manage to pull it off so well that the Duke buys it. It's absolutely brilliant! :D

    There is something about this movie and especially this scene which makes me so happy! I have a great love for history, theater, movies and opera and also a big fan of Baz Lurhman :)The idea of this movie is in my opinion a very colourfull way of telling about the whole timeperiode regarding the Bohemic and artistic way of being in Paris around the 1900. The stories my great grandparents told about that timeperiod was a bit like this scene, with people getting the best out if it and coming up with very creative ideas with fx the play in front of the duke. In a way the same aswell as what my grand parents told about the roaring 20's.As if it was a New Years Eve with out an end :D Very much spectacular indeed :D

      The main melody with lyrics "so exciting, so delighting" came from a classical orchestral piece by Offenbach, "Can-can from Orpheus in the Underworld" then there was this short part from the piece "Sound of Music", and later another sentence from Elton John's "Your Song".

    • @ruiruilim
      @ruiruilim  5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      The man is the Duke in the show, a potential investor for their script and show. The entire troupe sang to him to cover up for Satine and Christian, as Satine thought Christian was the Duke instead and had a dance with him before going to her chamber or bedroom.. and that was when the Duke appeared so they put up something as the Duke was after Satine for himself... Kind of messy, my explanation hahahahaha

      I got a free ticket to see a musical theatre production of this before I saw the movie. It was entirely based on the movie, but played as much more down to earth and was more coherent and had a much better flow. Was disappointed to find out the movie was… this. I didn’t hate it, but it was just kinda meh and by the end I was mostly just watching for Nicole Kidman.
