La La Land is nothing, this is art the best musical film
I agree.. This movie is really shocked!! And not just movie, movie moulin rouge is major event of 2001

I feel like the duke would have gotten sick of her eventually. Like as she aged. And sought out a new younger model
Oh, for sure. But it was never really about her romantic confusion and struggling with choosing between him and Christian just for the sake of satisfying her own heart. She always knew what kind of man the duke really was.

She was basically being pimped out by the theater owner because the duke was offering to fund their theater-saving production of the new show Christian was writing in exchange for Satine. And since she (a gifted singer and performer with no other means of supporting herself) would lose her livelihood just the same as everyone else if the theater failed, and had no romantic partner at the beginning of the story, she went along with the plan to become a rich man's mistress in exchange for his patronage and finncial support of the theater she worked for.

And the duke knew what he was doing with her, but fell for the illusion anyway that a desperate young woman being pursued by an entitled onnoxious rich man who controls her fate somehow sincerely wanted him (and it burned his pride that she didn't).

But then she fell for Christian and in a moment of surprise, seeing him unexpectedly as she was forcing herself to endure being pawed at by the duke, she couldn't hide her real feelings anymore.

And the duke *still* didn't give her up, but openly threatened her into staying and the theater manager (owner?) into having the 'happy ending' of their play being changed into one where the rich king won. And later tried to kill Christian. This was a surprise to no one, because they all already knew he was a jack*ss. The only (happy) surprise was that Satine chose Christian in the end anyway.
Brilliance. The movie was impressive. This song, like many others were not included in the musical. Disappointing. My recommendation... watch the movie again, rather than spending $300 to see the live show.
