It isn't just Kia, my new 2022 Tesla model Y had a defective heat pump in cold weather ( I live in Canada). Imagine driving in -25ºC with no heat or widescreen defroster. It was a design flaw. They replaced my heat pump with a new redesigned version and the car is as good as new. I still love the car and don't hold it against Tesla. Good on them for being innovators. I think it is the same for Kia and Hyundai. Innovation has glitches but they are leading the way. I would also like to thank you for the time you put into these videos, it is very much appreciated.
My EV6 is 2 weeks old. Have had all of these problems..and more. It's all over the forums and Kia still haven't fixed most things. Very pleased that a reviewer has finally flagged up some issues. Such a great car but let down by so many stupid software bugs.
I was about to say exactly the same thing. The HVAC system not working should have greatly helped the efficiency on that run. When you have the heating running on a Tesla, you definitely notice a range drop, even with the new heat pump models. I don't suspect it will be any different on the Kia.
FYI, it appears that all EV6 made after late Sep are unaffected by the inverter issue (hardware). There is still software improvements ongoing to the heating logic. Heating works well in my GT Line with heatpump, however you have to get used to the heating being a ‘glow rather than a blow’ if that makes sense as the heating logic is different.
Well done fella for doing this trip/review despite the heating issue. Real world tests are hard to come by in new vehicles so really appreciate your efforts here! 👍
I've had it for the weekend (same version) and truly loved it - it's quiet, fast (although a bit laggy when trying to push it e.g. for overtaking), with absolutely beautiful interior, esp. in the night, and overall a nice looking car. The boot could be bigger though in such a big car. One thing that surprised me was its size - it's quite bulky actually, not that easy to manoeuvre in the city centre or to fit in tight gateways. So before buying, a test drive is highly recommended.
I had a £1000 deposit on a EV6 GT S line with heat pump one of first to do so but got cold feet after Kia could not tell me what the true function of the heat pump was calling it a battery conditioner not a cabin heater along with reports of poor range for the battery size so I cancelled my order and ordered a Tesla Model 3 long range, after seeing this video I know I did the right thing Thank you

It’s a pity that you had problems because it takes away from all the positive aspects of the car. The 7 year warranty is unique and the car is great for the price. Great channel thanks for the review
Likewise, I took delivery of mine in November and I've had no real problems so far (touch wood). There are some bugs in the App for sure; it keeps reverting to km (I noted that happening on the charging display too) and the App doesn't report the charge state correctly. Nothing more than mildly annoying and as a software engineer I know full well that there will be new bugs along with the fixes in any update, so I'm not over anxious to do that. The heater takes about 5 minutes after the start of a journey to kick in, I'm not sure if that's related to the random operation, so I'll keep an eye on that. An extended warranty certainly gives you peace of mind and it helps with resale value. I had a Kia Stinger before and it only lost £5k in 2.5 years and 26,000 miles which I thought was fantastic
I've had an EV6 since October, had car alarm and heater issues. Both well reported on forums. Car alarm sorted within a few weeks, new heating inverter being fitted on Monday to solve the heating problem. Not great that these things were missed on build but hopefully Kia are on it. Excellent real world review. I have my eye on the EV6 which is coming to Canada in the spring. Obviously the heating issue is something Kia needs to resolve if they intend to sell this car in Canada.
Think it already is for models in production now, I also recently got an update from KIA Norway saying that they are working on an update for preconditioning of the battery when navigating to chargers.

So the autopilot has an Audi mode. I've been lucky enough to own new a Tesla, Mercedes & Ford in the last 5 years. All had warranty issues in the first year. Worst was actually the Mercedes, front discs were replaced twice due to warping. My Focus RS needed head gasket replacing. Tesla needed multiple cameras replacing. Disappointing, but luckily all my dealer experiences were good.
That's why you usually wait a year for all the kinks to be sorted out before buying a brand new model. Thhis applies to all brands, nothing against Kia, had a few and they were great cars
Would be great if you can get hold of an e-berlingo for a test. Ideally the seven seater. It could be good for a mini camper and would value your opinion.
Appreciate the video especially the last few mins with info on the inverter. Picked mine up yesterday and no heater drop out as yet but the software update it came with was July last year so have downloaded the latest update but not applied yet….
I got my EV6 RWD last October, in fact I was the first person to have an EV6 delivered by my dealer in Chester. I knew something was definitely wrong when the heater was throwing out cold air despite being set at 27DegC whilst in Windermere last November with the car covered in snow ! I finally had the inverter replaced last week under warranty. I haven't been able to establish yet that the hearing issue has been fixed as its been quite warm ambient. However, the range and efficiency has massively improved !! I'm not sure if it's just because it's warmer and/or the replacement inverter is helping efficiency ?? Has anyone else noticed improved efficiency after the inverter upgrade. Now I am getting Tesla efficiency. I went to Stockport yesterday and despite proper motorway speeds pulled 4miles per kw !!
Heard about the same inverter issue on the Ioniq 5. Unfortunately other owners who are not influencers didn't get the heater fixed that fast as the part had to be ordered from Korea.
Imagine the bad press if those issues were on a Tesla. Both the EV6 and Ioniq 5 seem to be experiencing multiple issues. So glad I cancelled my pre-order for the Ioniq 5, Model 3 has been flawless and improves with updates.
Yes as I say it would be good to run side by side both models but in reality it’s not much difference. People should buy whichever one they want. 4wd if you want the speed or need the grip. I think the 2wd is a bit more efficienct, same as Kia say, but maybe 10 miles per charge extra. Most of the time the 4wd will be in 2wd anyway so it’s the extra weight. Tesla used to quote the 4wd models as having the bigger range because of the extra regen.
Heater/Inverter issue on early cars is well known, in the media and particularly on owner forums. And the “other” brand is still suffering from a significant number of software and hardware issues a year after launch, with very long lead times (months) for replacement parts. Suggest it is why the previous owner part exchanged the car, so quickly after taking delivery. Presume the cars heater issues weren’t mentioned to you?
If the inverter is made before/after a certain date, it might not need replacing. My heating issues were fixed with just dealer software updates, and when I asked about the inverter they said that it’s particular model number wasn’t affected. Also, to avoid lockups (referred to as “zombie mode” in owners groups), keep your foot on the brake as you start the car.
Great video thank you!. Never had the heating issues on my RWD GT Line EV6 thankfully, had my car delivered January 7th 2022 not sure on build date, everything works, preheat at -2C, rear windows defrost, front window defrost, mirrors heaters defrost , side windows defrost, heated wheel comes on, alarm not going off constantly, no issues really to report really, coming from an Audi A4 2019 Black Edition this EV6 car is much better, seeing 4.4-.4.5 KWH per mile in town, 3.2-3.5 on MWAY. Go to Kia get the software updates, update the Maps and software in car yourself, hopefully you won't need a hardware fix. if you do, they are coming or have arrived for some, problems fixed. For the mode where it won't go into gear, zombie mode some call it?? Kia said to me, you NEED to have your foot on the brake then start the car and out it into a gear, the issue has never returned for me where you cannot select a gear after doing so. Either foot on brake when starting our coming from accessory mode. Kia are changing this logic I have been told in a software update coming end of January and another big update in spring 2022.
The lane keeping issue is also to be found on Hyundai. I have the 2020 Ioniq and there is the switch to turns ALKS on/off, and there is also a system setting which the manual says the car remembers across journeys but it doesn't work - every time I switch the car on then ALKS is on - I find that annoying as I only use it on motorways. As a past motorcyclist i don't like using ALKS on country roads as it holds the centre of the lane and that's not the best way to handle tight bends on country roads.
Same issue with my Ioniq 5 cannot select drive, usually after fast charge or if I have sat for any length of time stood still with the heating on but car off
Thanks for the video. After paying decent money with those issues I would absolutely loose sh#t. I don't understand how they can launch without thorough test
Just got my earth model and yes, heater not working properly, engaging drive & reverse has acted up twice, on 100% charged the reading for distance read only 366 kms, that's kms, so booked in for these problems to be hopefully
Cold car in winter is not ideal but glad to hear that Kia was on the ball with customer service. Why did you part ways with the GT-Line S 4wd? Like the look of the EV6 but I love my 2021 Model 3 Performance and wouldn’t trade it for anything else. Hope that you get better soon.
With the Hyundai Ioniq 5 having the same/similar parts, is that model struggling with the same faults/frustrations as the EV6? Appreciate the real world videos. A great eye-opener and I hope the manufacturers are watching too!
Not based on the i5 forum. I haven’t had any of these problems. There are bugs - like some people can’t engage drive, some people are seeing their 12v battery drain. So far, touch wood, my i5 has been fine.
Great real world video. Thanks. I was hoping you would have tried to fit the things you got in the EV6 boot into other cars though like you said you would at the beginning of the video.
As an owner of two teslas I am not going to gloat as my model Y performance is currently in the shop because the heater stopped working. I know this car has a heat pump too and I wonder if a similar part is going on both cars
Moral of story, any other sub 6 month old EV part exes trade to another dealer. You've 2 or 3 similar Model 3's that seemingly been faultless. At least Taycan been reliable.
Ehh...My Boss is having a shedload of issues with his Taycan - For example, drivers window motor failure, unfortunately in the down position...He borrowed my Tesla for a trip last week and I drove home with some plastic sheeting and some Gorilla tape...

That's terrible that you had to deal with no heat in a car. I could hear my wife's voice in both ear canals complaining how cold it is. lol. I hope this gets resolved on this ONE visit and not have to return to have the heater tweaked again. Be well.
Ironically, I have the RWD version of the Ioniq 5 which doesn't have a heat pump and get great heat. My range plummets when I turn it on, but I am nice and toasty fast charging next to the AWD version of the car at the same fast charging site.
Good to know Richard and at least these issues will get addressed. Kia/ Hyundai have too much heavily invested in these cars and platforms to not make it a success. Good you bring it up and owners and potential owners will at least be able to check and look out for these. Remember the early days of Tesla and recently Vw/Polestar. All had issues or best described as teething problems. At least by getting them out early it bodes well for the cars not delivered yet? Get well soon. 👍
Hi just picking up on the old post. I have now had two EV6 one back in October one of the first and after four days had a flat 12v battery that couldn’t be diagnosed where the phantom drain was. Long story short rejected car new one turned up in April just as they fixed the old one it was the fly by wire gear selector!! Now the new one four weeks of driving has had a failed evaporator as no ac. You would think Kia would presume test critical components before fitting them!! So four to five week back order with the whole dashboard in pieces in the boot. Is it realistic to pay £50k for a flagship car that in two models has had to have major rebuilds. Would you reject it again - also heating issue not fixed.
Fee your pain…. If you like the car stick with it. Kia did help me out pretty quickly in the end once I insisted not to fob me off with software updates to try and fix heating.

Thanks for another great update video
It would be interesting to compare how much more consumption does the AWD vs RWD !! Superb video Richard, greetings from Barcelona :)
@@RSEV Thanks so much Richard, I refered to the EV6 AWD & RWD. About Tesla I know it, 'cause we have one at home :)
I really appreciate the response !
Blimey, that’s a quick turnaround for someone
What was the reason for swap and what did they go to ?
The issue with the heating invertors have started to be changed out by Kia now.
Good video as usual Richard - interesting watching the different vehicles and the issues.
Just got my earth model and yes, heater not working properly, engaging drive & reverse has acted up twice, on 100% charged the reading for distance read only 366 kms, that's kms, so booked in for these problems to be hopefully
Sorry, pressed wrong button, just saying car to be checked and I meant klms 🙄. Love the car otherwise
Just wait a few months or for the next model year. These are teething problems. The underlying quality of these cars is excellent.
HI, Nice video. Yes please make a test of AWD vs. RWD range, consumption etc. Thank you. A
Thanks for being honest Simon! Great informative video 👍
It is what it is, but I hope it doesn’t put anyone off.
Ps my name is Richard…
@@RSEV Great nom de guerre, Symon Richards! Thanks for the video, hope you are feeling better soon.
@@RSEV LOL 'Simon'
Normally turning off and on again resolves issues rather than creating them.
Kinda like Microsoft Windows....
@@jm9371 That's why I own a Mac & a Tesla 🤓
Great real world video. Thanks. I was hoping you would have tried to fit the things you got in the EV6 boot into other cars though like you said you would at the beginning of the video.
Hey Richard... guess the main question is what did they part exchange this for? :😛...I'm guessing it begins with a 'T'?
Interesting why a brand new EV6 is traded in !
@@lockdownsim9681 With air con being standard on nearly all cars I couldn't tell you last time opened a window apart from to fold passenger mirror in on my Yaris.
@@alexdalgleish1061 Bit of a pain at a drive through...
Trick way of adding horsepower. Wonder if the Ioniq 5 has the same heater issue. Hope u r fully recovered.
Get well soon mate
My heating was dodgy but software update done and it seems to be sorted now, but I need to bring it in the dealer to get 2 more software updates and new inverter.
Yes that’s my main point really, I don’t think just software is good enough. Push for that inverter which hopefully will be the permanent fix.
@@RSEV I saw a german video where they had to switch off AC and then heating worked…
Great review. Wouldn't touch one with a barge pole. I will stick with my self charging Lexus hybrid.
Nice video shame about the heater tho. Get well soon.
Good thing they had warm clothes in the trunk! and pity for kia! dropped the concept of reliability ! But the more electric the better! lower prices and higher quality ! Rio Verde - GO Brazil
Great tip for the charging 👌
Hope you recover fast from covid 💪🏼 wich you the best
Thank you. Luckily after 3 jabs I’ve had it quite mild. Would be horrible or deadly to me otherwise (high risk as have asthma)
I was going to ask why would someone Sell or Trade in a EV 6. Watching your video I see why.😕
Beat me to it.
That was my first thought as well.
Yeah. I wonder whether the owner declared the issues to R. Symonds, or did he cunningly offload the problems to someone else🤔
Very informative thanks
Hi Tech usually comes with Hi problems., wait till it get's older!
As much as I love the look of the Ev6 I couldn't live with the technical glitches
That's terrible that you had to deal with no heat in a car. I could hear my wife's voice in both ear canals complaining how cold it is. lol. I hope this gets resolved on this ONE visit and not have to return to have the heater tweaked again. Be well.
Great video.
As a regular visitor to Cobham... I was in hysterics!! 🤣🤣
😂💁♂️ those roads… 🤦♂️
Except Tesla still have problems and believe their panel fit is OK even when it isn't.
It does smack of "we have to get theses cars on sale now"
@@clansome
Richard's had "A few". I don't see him complaining?
Give it up.
Never buy 1st year of a new model. Patience
Does this model has a heat pump?
I think when Im looking for my next car i'll be watching these real world reviews instead of the ones by the main car channels lol
Someone part exchanged a 71 plate EV6 ?! What's wrong with it?
Clearly offloaded his problems to someone else... Buyer beware!
Another great video, thank you.. I very nearly ordered one of these, but decided to order a Tesla model 3 LR instead
Great video, would you say ev6 is a quieter drive than the MY & more comfortable (I know it's cooler 😁)
Have you had any EV6s since this one which have been better?
Nice video,
Also your mumbling was funny.
Im stuck between Kia EV-6 and the Tesla model Y
The Tesla is also negatieve know for its problems with delivering, doors not flush, gaps, etc.
Now you have driven een Kia for the fun. Doing with a car what is made for, having fun ;-)
I have seen video about a year use of use of a model Y and al kinds of problems and it realy starteld me. A car of 70k so many thing warn out.....
Warrenty of a kia is 7 years...... Makes you think.
With all the positve and all the negatieve, warrenty, problems after driving it a while and problems with lack of final check before delivery. Time spend on fixing the problems al the dealer. What would you prefure and why.
Kind regards
Marc
Wow, a lot of faults with these cars. As long as they fix them over the air or recall to the local dealer, they should be OK, but it is worrying for Kia as it will tarnish their image.
Wich accupack do you drive the Ev6?
Temporary solution for the HVAC (heating) turning off: go to user profile, log off and log in again, HVAC should work again.
Thanks for the interesting video, hopefully you've not suffered too much with Covid. I know how different people have had different experiences despite being fully vaccinated and boosted.
Look forward to more videos when you're fit & well.
Yes triple boosted and been feeling not too bad but it could have been worse. 10 days nearly up and able to exit isolation tomorrow
Great review. I'm thinking about getting one with sunroof but heard that it has low headroom. How tall are you and did you find this was an issue?
I’m 6ft and no issue for me. I think must last me and people seem to find it a problem
Did he say its quite warm at 10 degrees? ;p
Great work.... I think I'll wait a few years to let the bugs get worked out and battery technology to enhance a bit more. Cheers!
Richard does the car not have heated seats? If so did they work when the heating stopped working?
A 71 plate Kia EV6 in px? What did they buy?
Thanks for this. Do you know if these or similar issues are present on the Ioniq 5 as well (as I understand they are built on the same platform)?
Great Car! Better than every Volkswagen ID.x Crap!
Well done for dodging Covid for so long....Get well soon...!!
Hi you say you took the Kia in part exchange. Why have the person traded this car so soon you can’t get one for months new. I had to have a heater element replaced in my Kia e Niro which the part cost £3500. Thank god for the warranty.
You took this in as part exchange?! They were only released a few months ago 😱
