You explain this game extremely well, after watching several of your videos i am now able to play and explain the game to my friends. You have a gift! thank you so much for being such a great help! I have looked at many videos but they all explain things in a way that a novice cant understand. THANK YOU SIR! :))
I think for the next videos I will break each rule up into smaller videos so if you have a question on say trample you can go to that specific video instead of watching a clumped together one like these. Keep in mind I am not a judge, which requires testing and hours of knowing the rules in and out. My videos are designed to give you the basics and get you playing. Thanks!
I just got the cards cause my friend has them and I think its really fun and its a long time ago and I cant remember what the exact rules was so thank you very much for making this video
thanks so much for this. i have spent a lot of time looking for a clear breakdown of the steps of the game for noobs on their own like me and my friend. huge help here. looking forward to more from you!
Hand size is maxed at 7 cards at the end of your turn. If you have 9 cards in your hand during your turn and you can play 2 of them before the end of your turn then you don't have to discard any. If not, then you must discard 2 cards at your discard step. The discard step knocks your hand back down to 7 at EOT. Cards like Spellbook alter this cap on your hand...
i havent played magic in over ten years.. i just wanted to say you did an excellent job on your tutorial. you should be a teacher or something my man.. very well explained. i like how you kept repeating yourself in some areas. made the information you were putting out their, sink in a bit more.
This is very helpful! My friends and I love Magic, but we weren't playing correctly We knew the rules slightly but still had fun, except the games always seemed a little unbalanced. Like my friend Kyle, who uses a blue deck, always kicked my butt because my Black deck, because he had more cards. But now we know the exact rules, so it's more fun! Thanks for the hard work, and awesome video!
I have to say, that you are allowed to take a mulligan if you are not happy with your starting hand, so even if you have lands and other mana sources you can take a mulligan ;)
Thank you so much now I know. Me and my friend started a club with our teacher after school for magic the gathering so I had to learn fast.(just bought cards last night)
Thanks for the infor man really apreseate it:] But is there a limite to how many land and creaters you can have on the field, im a new commer and just got my deck a few days ago
Dynorider I do take some of your advice on putting atleast make a 3rd of your deck manna but it depends on the time just so you know I mean I would say make a third of your deck manna IF you use white or red cause they dont need as much manna but green needs alot of manna so you should put atleast a half of your deck manna + With magic the gathering there is no such thing as a perfect amount of land its all about luck and the way you shuffled your cards... Just so you know well thank you for helping me -Derpeh
Can't you mulligan on the first turn just if you feel like it? I mean you're losing a card on subsequent draws so that's a decent penalty for a redraw.
People traditionally roll dice to decide who goes first as everyone has an equal chance on getting a higher number. What if I had a deck full of one drops? That would mean I almost never go first. Also, the winner of the roll gets to decide the turn order.
Unless they've changed the rules of doing a mulligan, it doesn't matter what you have in your hand. You can have all land, no land, or a perfect hand. I know they've changed mulligan before. It used to be if you had no lands or all lands you could mulligan back to 7. I'm pretty sure they've changed that. Anyone know what the official terms for mulligan currently are?
I am having trouble with Cohort, the ability that allows you to tap an untapped ally. Why would you need to tap and untapped ally if it does not cost mana to attack? Can someone explain Cohort to me please?
+poke kannon So Cohort is an ability that only some creatures you have. It allows you to tap the Cohort creature and another Ally creature to activate the Cohort ability, specified on the card.
Nathanael Stewart Yup, any land. Basic lands tap for one color of mana. There are also special dual lands like Guildgates that can tap for whichever color you need that turn. A Gruul Guildgate can tap for either red mana or green mana.
NOTE: Some rules have changed since I made this video so I apologize for that! Mana burn no longer exists. Since 10th edition in a multiplayer game you are allowed a Mulligan w/o a penalty once... then after that one less card is drawn each time. Yes you may Mulligan if you dislike your hand or mana is low or too much... Terminology has changed a little too instead of "in play" it is "on the battlefield".
SARMANTINE Nope, not even if you blocked with a 0/1 creature. Your creature will die, but it will stop the attacker from hurting you. This is different if the attacker has "trample", which makes the extra damage hit you. If a 6/4 creature with trample attacks and you block with a 1/4, your blocker will take 4 damage and die, then the extra 2 damage will hit you.
So, what I could pick from this field of creatures is 1. People who have no idea how to play 2. People who don't want to play (why are you here) 3. People who don't know a certain thing so they want to understand 4. People learning bc of a lover, family member, or friend (I fall into the friend category) And lastly 5. People that want to learn bc they want to understand all card games Oh, I almost forgot 6. People that have a fingernail fetish
The best way to teach Magic to new players is to give the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM of rules needed to play the game. Once the player sees how the fun the game is, they'll put in the effort to learn more rules. This is a good video, but not for beginners.
@wisird no??? you obviously need land cards! were you even watching the video...of coarse if you have other sources of mana i suppose you could use those but you should always have land cards
It's not referred to as health but life. Calling it health sounds weird, this isn't Call of Duty. And there's four ways to win, not just one. Reducing your opponent's life total to 0 or less, your opponent draws a card with no cards left in their library, your opponent has 10 or more poison counters, or you have a card that says you win the game if X condition is met.
that damage would stick until the end of the turn, so if the 2/3 blocked a 3/3 and you dealt another 1 damage to the creature before the end of turn then it would die
im sorry but after watching just this video and several other videos i still dont see why this game got so popular. great job on explaining how to play but yugioh is still where im at.
+Potential x10 Usually if you're a younger player of Yu-Gi-Oh you might not be able to play as effectively as an older player. The game is alot more complicated than t was years ago so if you're older, you're most likely gonna have an easier time playing considering your age.
Please let me know what future videos you would like to see... and don't say "How To Maintain My Nails" :) Sorry I didn't realize my nails were a focus in the video but I will make sure they are presentable next time ok :p
You could get a deckbuilder's toolkit on Amazon for around 15-20$. You get 4 booster packs, commons/ uncommons, rares, and a lot of every land. I hope this was helpful

Dynorider2001 How do I manifest a card?
+Dynorider2001 THANKYOU SO MUCH, great video btw dude you got a new sub :D
I just got the cards cause my friend has them and I think its really fun and its a long time ago and I cant remember what the exact rules was so thank you very much for making this video
I'm
probably the best beginners guide I've seen yet to be honest. awesome thanks
his nails though
The arrow is a tap symbol so you can use it once per turn unless you have some way to untap it...
so really just play the video game and your good on knowing how to play it
thanks so much for this. i have spent a lot of time looking for a clear breakdown of the steps of the game for noobs on their own like me and my friend. huge help here. looking forward to more from you!
You have the hands of a woman, nice video
Hand size is maxed at 7 cards at the end of your turn. If you have 9 cards in your hand during your turn and you can play 2 of them before the end of your turn then you don't have to discard any. you have lovely fingers
needed a refresher course, this is a great video for it. really informative and to the point.
Technically all creatures attack your opponent directly. He/She just has the ability to block that attack with one of their creatures.
Oh my god! Thank you! I always wanted to play these sorts of games. And my crush Xavier is like an expert at it. Thank you so much.
This is very helpful! My friends and I love Magic, but we weren't playing correctly We knew the rules slightly but still had fun, except the games always seemed a little unbalanced. the memories are flooding in
Looking forward to the updates. I am hoping my son and I can learn together. Thanks!
Best how to play I've found
What lovely
nails you have
I strongly suggest buying an 'Intro Pack' for starters. It includes a 60-card premade deck, and a pack you get to open.
Thanks for the great series! Very helpful for beginners.
can i play this game if i have no friends?
Great Video! Buddy wants me to start playing for when we travel and go to Cons, Should be fun, Ian GG
Thanks for the infor man really apreseate it:] But is there a limite to how many land and creaters you can have on the field, im a new commer and just got my deck a few days ago

your hands are very lovely. great summary intro video! Thanks!
Very good video! This helped me a lot.
Yes, that is how we determined it but dice rolling is the way to go... I need to update the videos I just haven't had time.
Dynorider2001 What if I enchant a creature with an enchantment aura spell, and a blue player return the creature to my hand, what happens to the aura?
Goes into the Graveyard...unless the card says otherwise like rancor.
Dynorider2001
Thanks, can you explain manifesting
Thank you for explaining it so well!
Can't wait for his how to give yourself a manicure video!
I suggest the best way or learning is to play Draft :3 it's how i learned and is the main format I play at FNM
Thanks Man This Was Really Helpful
and on another note can basic land and land both pay for manna cost because in my deck i have only to manna cards in my first deck. which is 79 cards
Thnx dynorider, your explanation helped out a lot 👍
@Dynorider2001 I've a deck with 52 lands, 4 treasure hunts, 4 zombie infestations, and 1 Emrakul, The Aeons Torn. It's very interesting to play with.
u made this so simple to learn thanks
Can't you mulligan on the first turn just if you feel like it? I mean you're losing a card on subsequent draws so that's a decent penalty for a redraw.
Is it just me, or did magic cards get smaller?
Can I use: Borborygmos Enraged discard a land from your hand skill more than 1 time per turn
anyone know the name of that green card with the white border? the one with the muscular orange/brown guy?????
quirky and helpful! good work
This is very helpful, thank you.
I'm pretty good on the 360 version but I'm just starting the cards now
Yes some tournaments require a 40 card min but generally 60 is the minimum...
People traditionally roll dice to decide who goes first as everyone has an equal chance on getting a higher number. What if I had a deck full of one drops? That would mean I almost never go first. Also, the winner of the roll gets to decide the turn order.
Dynorider2001 thanks for the tips i would be lost with out this video

you explain it very well, but I still don't know how to play this game...
there are some cards with no cost of mana that i have but what part in this whole tutorial do you tell us that
I am having trouble with Cohort, the ability that allows you to tap an untapped ally. Why would you need to tap and untapped ally if it does not cost mana to attack? Can someone explain Cohort to me please?

JediMasterBenScratch oh okay thank you.
Awesome, trying to learn do this is great man
ive played magic alot but i forget do you use the 20 place dice for your health
It basically has the same objective is Yu-Gi-Oh but that was my first Trading Card Game and now I'm a pro I want to be good at all games
so from my understanding basic land and land can both tap for mana pls i cant understand
Nathanael Stewart Yup, any land. Basic lands tap for one color of mana. There are also special dual lands like Guildgates that can tap for whichever color you need that turn. A Gruul Guildgate can tap for either red mana or green mana.
"OOHHHH... Mmmmmmnnphhh... Mmmphhhh... Mmmmm... Mmmox Sapphire... (Heavy breathing)... Ok... Mmmall right... mmMox Saphire..."
I have no "Basic Land" cards..... is it still possible to play without it? PLEASE ANSWER
I like the vid I just wanted to say u should of like gave and example of the mana when putting down a creature or something
My cards have a certain number on it next 2 the mana do I need 2 random mana and 1 swamp this game is so complicated
so you could have a deck with 200 cards if you want???
you could have a deck of 2000 if you want. but you probably won't get what you want if you take too much
A player must be able to shuffle their deck all at once without assistance. (insert rules text if I wasn't lazy)
I don't get it. If creatures attack a creature's health... then how do you attack a player's health?
Correction: there are 6 basic lands now; the new one is waste, representing colorless.
NOTE: Some rules have changed since I made this video so I apologize for that!
Mana burn no longer exists.

Starcitygames
I'm doing these separately on purpose lol
when i look at a card and it says flying does it do damage or not?
That helps a lot thanks
Are to supposed to draw 7 or 4 cards
Please reply
7 cards
Get a deck builders toolkit. I got mine at Walmart for 20 dollars it comes with 285 cards with 100 of them being basic lands. Hope this helped ^_^
Hey friend, can you help me please. If a 6-4 creature attacks and i block with a 1-4 creature, will I receive 2 damage
***** Ok thanks bro
SARMANTINE Nope, not even if you blocked with a 0/1 creature. Your creature will die, but it will stop the attacker from hurting you.

Andrew Turner Thanks!!!
***** Yes
You have the hands of a healer
So, what I could pick from this field of creatures is

@Spruce1968 Funny... my son and I are just learning about it as well.
My bf stArted playing this game and he says hes gonna destroy me but now he cant ☺️
Lol wow
So helpful thank you!!!!
the only reason. I am here is because Like every boy at my school play this game,so witch, yes I wanna Learn

Do you have to use the dice
thanks that was a very helpful video
@wisird no??? you obviously need land cards! were you even watching the video...of coarse if you have other sources of mana i suppose you could use those but you should always have land cards
What if you dont have any mountains
So what happens if I have 58 mana cards and 2 creatures, im being dead serious
can u cast more than 1 creature a turn?
I wish my hands looked as nice as yours

duels of the planeswalkers 2013. For xbox, playstation, and pc.
Finnaly i ben waiting for a long
Time for somebody can teach me
Can
Artifact creatures be destroyed
Legendary enchantment Arifacts
Be destroyed
when the 2/3 attacks the 3/3, the 2/3 dies, but does the 3/3 now become a 3/1 ?
that damage would stick until the end of the turn, so if the 2/3 blocked a 3/3 and you dealt another 1 damage to the creature before the end of turn then it would die
Bruce and if it doesnt die, the next turn it resets back to 3/3?
thats right
im sorry but after watching just this video and several other videos i still dont see why this game got so popular. great job on explaining how to play but yugioh is still where im at.

+luke symons well i wasnt trying to be offensive im happy people play multiple card games but i just still cant find to like it.
yugioh looks fun. I'm to big to play it doe... everyone at my school plays mtg =[
+Potential x10 Usually if you're a younger player of Yu-Gi-Oh you might not be able to play as effectively as an older player. The game is alot more complicated than t was years ago so if you're older, you're most likely gonna have an easier time playing considering your age.
You should play what you want :) and have fun
I'll stick to playing Pokemon
L 4 luigi u suck
L 4 luigi magic is better if you got into it and played it you would know
I like both. I don't understand why people get worked up over such acute things.
Thanks for the intro
Everytime he breathes in deeply to talk again take a shot
*Heavy breathing intensifies*
Lots my friend, Lots.
That deck looks like it has like 100 cards
if you mean the title is not "Basic Land" sure, you need "Forest", "Mountain", "Island", "Plains", or "Swamp". You cannot play without those.
Please let me know what future videos you would like to see... and don't say "How To Maintain My Nails" :) Sorry I didn't realize my nails were a focus in the video but I will make sure they are presentable next time ok :p
I got 2 booster pack and it have only 2 mana cards and I need alot of mana cards how can I get it??
get a magic the gathering fat pack everything you need is in one
My friend told me there's a pack with only mana cards but i dont know whats it called
Juan Gutierrez no packs of mana
You could get a deckbuilder's toolkit on Amazon for around 15-20$. You get 4 booster packs, commons/ uncommons, rares, and a lot of every land. I hope this was helpful
OK thanks anyway ;)
can you play magic the gathering on xbox if so how?
dude I know u your my dad;s friend that bought our motorcycle right?
@wisird buy a land pack, fairly cheap and u can't play w.o them!
0:53 there are actually 10 basic lands in the game
