  • This was hard to record with no way to get the entire wide screen into my little Ricoh lens and people walking right into me because it was dark and why is this dumbass setting up a tripod here in the first place? But it's still the complete film, shot in 1990. If I find a better one later I'll replace this.

I so love the old Epcot Center. I experienced as a child and I didn't feel the need for a 'lighter' presentation, I was amazed. Nowadays, Epcot has an identity crisis. It doesn't know what it wants to be, save a vehicke for the latest Disney animated film.

I remember going to EPCOT Center for the first time at the age of 9 in October/November 1988 and being blown away by this show. What really amazed me was the sense of wonder and optimism the show seemed to give. The moving theatre, the graphics and music, the dinosaurs - I hadn't imagined anything like it existed.
Some people found the show to be too serious and boring but I found the authoritative voice of the narrator and the serious science stuff to make the whole experience even better.

the song at the end of the original pre show is really beautiful and it gives me chills/gets me emotional every time I hear it. although I personally prefer the current version of this show with ellen and bill nye over the old version, I really wish disney would have found a way to somehow put the song into the new show because it really is a very breathtaking song.

Almost every refurbishment they've done in Epcot has been for the worse. It's a total disgrace. The park doesn't even have a cohesive theme anymore.

What's really for the worse is this whole Frozen in World Showcase malarkey.

JEHMSZ yeah. Epcot was not meant to be "shove Disney characters and brands down everyone's throat" land. That's the magic kingdom.

Epcot's still be my favorite WDW park nonetheless. I hope it's next in line for a large overall refurb. Wonders of Life is now a waste of space sitting abandoned

This was one of the most difficult screens to work on. These were chain driven devices that Always had problems. For what it's worth, like so many other Disney shows, when Ellen and Alex appeared in the revised UoE show, WDI simply put a wall up in front of the cube screens. They stayed there, frozen in time, until the entire pavilion was updated for Guardians.

Fantastic show. Must have been great when it first opened in 1982.

Energy broke down so often during the first year. Up and down during the day. That said, all of the music scores in 1982 Epcot Center were, and still are phenomenal.

  • @ajs41
    @ajs41 15 ปีที่แล้ว

Those opening graphics and music and the lion advancing made my spine tingle when I first saw them in 1988. They must have been even more impressive when the park first opened in 1982, really state-of-the-art stuff.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It's great to hear from someone who went to EPCOT starting in around 1982. (I guess there aren't many people who actually went in 1982 since it was only open for about 12 weeks in that year). Most people I know who've been to EPCOT didn't start going there until the late 80s, early 90s. Most of the video footage people have only starts in the late 80s. I'd love to see some more footage and photos from the first 5-6 years.

Always likde the Radok Pre-Show... unique and compelling. I don't believe there was a wide enough lens, at that time, to actually capture the entire screen. Miss it.

As hoaky as it may sound, I got a little choked up after hearing the theme song. I miss it....along with Horizons, World of Motion and the original Journey into Imagination.
I know I have the CD to the original Epcot music somewhere. Now if I can just find it. :x

This is awesome. I know it would be hard to see, but any chance you managed to record that part near the end, with the lasers and mirrors?
I was only a kid then, so my memories of it are pretty sparse, but I think I remember lasers tracing the form of a man, and being absolutely amazed at it. I'd love to see it again now :)

It doesn't make sense to me that they would get rid of the incredible screens they used here and put in stationary flat screens. Like I understand that these screens wouldnt have fit with Ellen when they changed the ride but these screens are INCREDIBLE. Were they having trouble working? It just doesnt make sense to me. The technology was so advanced, the stationary screens seem like a step backwards.

The Ellen story was always corny. This show, the one before she was added, was much better and is the one presented here. There were a series of square panels, and they moved during the movies. Disney probably got rid of the Universe of Energy because of its focus on fossil fuels, and its relationship to Exxon-Mobil. Sometime ago, Disney wouldn't let you film with your camcorder in the presentation of a show. Now they can't stop you with all the movie capabilities on cell phones.

The show was supposed to feature Tim Allen, but he had revealed a drug problem so they scrapped him. At the opening of the new show with Ellen D., she decided to "come out" - considering the times then, it was an even larger negative impact.
