    I’m a total beginner too. What I figured out is even AFTER you set Z without the dust boot , you can just jog the z up with the controller and slap it on. The machine remembers the z position and you can hit play as normal. This stumped me too my first few test carves. 😂 Happy carving !

    Beautiful job .I know how you feel about trying to make everything perfect but I had a friend remind me that the beauty of wood working is the little imperfections like knot holes and pieces missing that's what makes it a one of a kind .

    Hi Kate, One other tip you could try is setting your X,Y and Z using a .25 bit to get the Work X and Y zeros first then change bits to your 1 inch surfacing bit and only probe Z to set the Z zero.
    If you don't change the position of the workpiece you really only need to set your x & y zeros once. and then at every bit change probe z only. I hope that helps.

    • @WomenWhoCNC-
      @WomenWhoCNC-  ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike, the only problem I see with that theory is that the large 1.5 inch surfacing bit I use would be off center a little. In theory your right on the money w setting the X and Y then only having to re-zero your bit when you change it out.

    • @larryrobinson7492
      @larryrobinson7492 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@WomenWhoCNC- Absolutely not, it's centering the center of the spindle, regardless of what tool is in it.. You should Never change or reset your X and Y during a job unless there is a specific reason for it.

    Nice video, I have been using the Onefinity for a little over a year now and love my machine. Anthony was right once you set your x,y,and z you can more the gantry up or down and anywhere around the table with the touch screen or a Xbox type controller and it will remember where you set the x,y, and z. Keep in mind if you do move your gantry from the set position it will rapidly move back to the original x&y position when you press the play button so don't let that scare you. If you have any questions about any of this let me know I may have been clear as mud about it. lol

      Bubba, yes, that is a great option! That would have been quicker from a carving perspective, but I was wanting it to be all black and the epoxy to flow throughout the whole sign. Next time I make a flag, I'm going to try the Red, White and Blue.

    I'll subscribe just because I liked the ending when you were proud of your self and that little statement you made. It gave me grin. I'd be proud too! Nice job!
    I was just wondering though if you could answer me a question? Other then making sure dust is not on the rails to clog up and oiling your screws, is there any other things you constantly have to maintain or is your machine pretty reliable? Even though I already have a cnc (longmill since someone mentioned Garret), I am totally unsatisfied with it and I am torn between the onefinity elite, or yours or the Shapeoko Pro 5.
    I hate constant maintaining cause most of my hours are working and It really is not reliable.
    Any help on that would be good.
    By the way, when my machine does that I reduce the step over and that solves the problem around the stars. I've had to run mine at 30% stopover because of that. I'm thinking it has to do with how strong the gantry is as its going around curves or my z axis is not totally straight? dunno but reducing it helps.
    And what was the name of that stuff you bought? It really shined and I would love to use it on my soap cutters I make.

    • @WomenWhoCNC-
      @WomenWhoCNC-  ปีที่แล้ว

      Iwannaapple, thanks for the great comment. Thanks for the Sub and my number one thing I do, is to celebrate those moments when we get a win! I'll do my best to touch on all your questions. I'm sorry to hear your not happy with your Long Mill. My OF is a powerhouse and I've had it about 18 months. As far as the Elite vs the Journeyman, it's a little more rigid and has updated tech. The cool thing about OF is that you can always upgrade by just buying a new gantry and trading in your old one. That's exclusively to OF. They are pretty easy to clean. We have a lot of videos in the FB group about this exact topic.
      The wax I'm using is a simple bees wax from Lowes.

    Wow That turned out amazing. I have a few questions on the process. I am a newbie CNCer and I have dabbled with some small epoxy as well. Is there a reason that you went as shallow with your carve? I have made a few flags as well and I enjoy making them. I have a new file for a flag that carves in a solid piece of wood and I like the look of that better than the individual stripes.
    Keep up the great content and keep learning and spreading your knowledge with the CNC community.

      Hi 👋,
      Thanks for the awesome support! As far as the epoxy is concerned, I cut that deep bc that's the max depth of what the epoxy can tolerate. Without watching the video again, I believe I carved at 1/4 inch deep. If I went any deeper, I would of had to use a deep pour epoxy or done multiple pours. I also love making flags! They bring a great sense of pride!!

I had one friend who gave me some advice, but it was very limited. I had to learn all on my own but now, it's all mine and I'm so proud to say I can make these awesome projects. I will look into the left to right and how to make that work! Thanks for the great words of wisdom and compliments!!

      @WomenWhoCNC-  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shiro, oh no! 3rd time. I gotta ask, what type of paint are you using? If your using Acrylic, stop. You need a flat paint. Something with no sheen what so ever! I'm getting ready to create an entire series on how to use Ora-Mask with a variety of paints, wood stains and so many more things.
      P.S. sorry for the delay, I'm battleing a nasty round of Covid. :(

      @@WomenWhoCNC- Oh no! I wish you a speedy recovery. I used some fancy spray paint from Michael’s. I guess I didn’t allow the paint to cure long enough or perhaps it a some kind of reaction with the adhesive and caused it to bond even tighter.

    • @WomenWhoCNC-
      @WomenWhoCNC-  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shiro, yes, I give my spray paint 24hrs to cure before I even think about laying oramask on the top of it. Take some 320 grit sandpaper to it before applying as well then dust off well and apply. You will get a much better result.

    Good work, I am on a year with my Onefinity as well. You do need a better camera though...lol. Also quick tip with the stars. If you use a 1/8 or 1/16 bit to cut around the stars first and then pocket around them it helps keep the tip of the stars from breaking when cutting.
