That not how the physics works. Unless there's a lot of air resistance, a little bit of rotation can make a bottom heavy object fall in any direction. A weighed bottom makes it easier to hold level when you let go, so you might not add as much rotation. Some objects (like weighted dice) will often land on one side because it's more likely to tip over to that side when it falls on an edge, but tall cylinders like William's are way more likely to land flat, so it doesn't make a big difference.

It wasn't that it was he had the center of mass out of alignment with the crush zone and the balloon, he only had the balloon on one point of attachment instead of both sides of the can if he had done that then it would've worked just fine or at least better than it did
@@PepiOnLine because that's literally how science works is knowing how small tweaks in variables can hugely effect results it's the difference of 1°C with gasoline below a certain point it's fine and stable enough but one degree higher and you have a highly flammable vapor that you don't want or self ignition it's just science and observing the little things he did and saying it was a valid design just executed with a slight laps in judgement or not noticing it which could've let him win instead of catastrophic failure
