There are an insanely amount of different setups out there with hardware and software and what updates have been done or not been done.... Anyone that doesn't understand that things like this will affect people differently doesn't have a good grasp on the complexity of hardware/firmware/software. Thanks for your trails-efforts-and re-re-research and sharing. Much appreciated!

Thank you so very much for this detailed, brilliant, informative explanation! I fly exclusively in VR (Reverb G2, RTX 3090) and my PC is very much CPU bottlenecked. I didn’t find any option to go beyond the native resolution of the Reverb G2. Nevertheless I can report a huge improvement in image quality applying DLAA, I would go so far to describe it as a night-and-day difference of the sort that it looks like I have a new, much better headset than before (and until watching your videos I was under the impression I dialed in my graphics settings in a fairly optimized way!) Thank you and please continue sharing your insights with the MSFS 2020 community, very much appreciated!

OMDG!!!! This tiny little tweek is amazing!!! Who knew? and why did it take three years for someone to figure it out and share it? THANK YOU. Not only has my 2D flying never looked better (I tested the FENIX in downtown NY), but even VR (which for me has always been choppy, especially in turns) looks smooth as ice. Oh, my wife hates you know, becuase I'm going to spending more time enjoying this amazing simulation which YOU have made even better!!! 😆. I'm sharing your channel with all my friends. :)

Once again thank you! This has unlocked the full potential of my system! I'm fortunate enough to have a 7900X3d and an RTX 4090 and have been slightly disappointed in the performance and this has improved my sim so much while trying to fly out of INIbuilds KLAX or KJFK with full on Real Traffic and PSXTraffic in the pmdg or fenix.....this has boosted my FPS enough to where these flights run so much smoother now. So, thank you for your work.

Ok... I rarely comment on youtube videos but after watching this one and the newer one talking about the DLSS 3.6 I can say: Dawg... you are a genius. I run a Ryzen 7 3700x with a RTX 3070... usually I would get 20-35 FPS durinng the last years in flight sim... it was fine, playable, cool and all. But this saturday I took 50 min of my time to watch these videos and simply enough now im getting constant 60FPS no matter the circustance in game... the Flight sim experience changed from water to wine for me thanks to these videos... your guides simply render all "best graphics settings" videos and guides on the internet totally useless ! thanks you so much... this is awesome.

Holy crap dude, just tweaked my card with your settings and you nailed it. I was barely dropping below 60 FPS in heavy traffic areas with custom scenery and live traffic. And that most annoying jerkiness when panning around is entirely gone.

Even thinking of downgrading my card because the 4080 was damn expensive, lmao.

WOW, I have been a flight simmer since MSFS first came out, and I have never experienced visuals like this. I have a 4K OLED monitor (MSI Gaming Laptop with Nvidia 3080 graphics card, which I only use for MSFS), and I have increased the resolution to 5461 x 2880. The graphics are absolutely unbelievable. My FPS is around 43-50fps, which is good enough for me, but, the depth of field is what has astounded me, it is absolutely mind-blowing. I have been flying to locations that I previously loved, and I just cannot explain the difference, it is amazing. Thank you so much for your recommendation, time and effort in figuring this out, you are the MAN!!!! I cannot thank you enough, you have revitalised my enthusiasm and excitement for flight again.

First of all, thank you for taking the time to put this together. I know how long all the experimenting takes. For me, the 2.25x plus finally understanding DLSS worked like a charm. But moving my default settings to ULTRA nuked my FPS. I went back to mostly HIGH which makes FPS better and frankly I can hardly tell the difference. 7800X3D and 4070Ti

  • @FlightSimVRDad
    @FlightSimVRDad ปีที่แล้ว +2

We have very similar systems and I have been using the NVidia GForce experience app to launch with the optimum settings. I have great performance now. The one thing that caught my attention is that you have 1080P monitor and I have a 4K monitor and I see your videos are in 4K I downgrade mine to 1080P to help "frame drop" of the end product. That said, your water looks great. I still get the lines on the water when the water is smooth. Thanks for explaining not just the settings but also the logic behind the settings. And you are also correct in no two systems are alike. Once we start installing anything the performance changes and we have to find what works for each of us. But you have given us a wonderful starting point with an understanding of what we are dealing with. Thanks a bunch!

Actually I’m on a 2k system. I did the math yesterday and it’s basically like a 1.5x upscale after you do both DLDSR and DLSS. I’m still tweaking around the margins but overall I’m blown away. I can run the sim at literally completely maxed out settings.

I recently went from a 27 inch 4k monitor to a 45 inch super ultra wide. It was mostly a good move apart from the fact that after using 4k for so long, the step down to half the vertical resolution was painful. Stumbled across your video and gave it a go. It actually worked. Crystal clear graphics with no performance hit. Oddly, my GPU is now working less hard than before for some reason. I expect it has something to do with the ultra low latency setting being enabled.
    Anyway, thank you. You're a legend. 👍🏼

Happy New Year … ISP! Colorado Mountain Pilot here. I too am a Private pilot, and still fly MS Flight Sim “Old School” in Windows 7! LOL! I built an amazing sim with all SAITEK peripherals and I even built a panel out of wood to install all my Saitek instruments in. I use ForeFlight in the sim, and a few other cool add-ons that make flying cool. I even use my Bose headset while flying. With all that said, I feel it’s time to move up to MSFS 2024! But, I will need to build a new PC so I can run it because my old one will lock up! I’m certain of that. I would appreciate you sharing your build with me so I can have a baseline to start with. It was obvious how much better it was, so no before and after needed for me. It really looks incredible. Not that the sim looked bad before, but it really, really looks much better now. Thanks for doing the work and sharing.

Wow.. I had issues the first time I tried it, but it turns out I had to reinstall MSFS because it wasn't performing right. After the reinstall, I applied these changes again and this time it's smooth as butter. Sometimes with my settings and my specs it drops to 40 FPS if I'm in an airliner 100 ft above New York, but it's still super smooth. That, and the sharpness of the resolution, make you a freaking lord in my book. Thanks for sharing

You Sir, are a genius. I did lose some frame rates, but gained a prettier sim. With a 9700k and an RTX 3070 and 32 GB RAM, I can use the DLDRS or whatever at the 2.2 and set my res in MSFS to the 4.5k like you from 1440p, and if I set it to quality DLSS I get 50-59 FPS with waves to medium, motion blur off, and everything else set to ultra with the global setting. With balanced I get about 60-65 FPS, and with performance I get 65-75 FPS. Good enough for me. I have yet to try the PMDG 737 over NYC, but I am happy. I subscribed and rung the bell for all. My GPU usage is up, and my CPU usage is in the green. Thank you. Most of my NCP settings for global and MSFS were already about where yours are in the video.

Great info IslandSimPilot! Not only was I able to see a major improvement after making changes in my own setup, but I am also able to enjoy this improvement via Virtual Desktop, which permits me to choose from many of its own virtual monitor screens, one of which is the size of a 70mm screen in a movie theatre environment. The improved high resolution on such a display makes MSFS a really enjoyable thing to experience. I also wanted to convey that the VDXR api that is supported in Virtual Desktop is such that I no longer need to access Oculus nor Steam XR api’s, as I have found VDXR to be the most stable and reliable of the 3 API’s. The switch from regular screen to virtual display on my Oculus headset is seamless and almost instantaneous, with no issues in playability. A single API is all that is needed for Oculus headset to work harmoniously in VR with MSFS. Thanks again for conveying your research.

I have a G9 Odyssey OLED 5120x1440 and a 4090. Initially upon entering the NVIDIA control panel, there was no DSR option available. I had to do two things to get the DSR option to show. Change refresh rate of the monitor from 240Hz o 120Hz in system settings and turn Game Mode OFF in the monitor settings. I had to go with 1.78x as 2.25x was just too much of a hit. The change in graphical quality is nothing short of amazing. Thank you for posting this as well as posting the DLSS update video. Hopefully my above comments may help others. Edit: actually just turning Game Mode off on the monitor may do it. There is no option for 240Hz refresh rate once Game Mode is turned OFF.

WOW! I have a pretty good system or so I think :-) 7800X3D, 4070Ti Super with 32GB and I was never really happy with the visuals given the specs I have and doing this has transformed it :-) I left anisotropic filtering on in game and had to lower most of the settings from Ultra to High but it didn't have much impact. I have a ultra wide 34" monitor with a native resolution of 3440x 1440 so pushing the system to 5160x2160 at ultra was a step to far!. Even on high it is so much better that when I was running in native resolution . Thanks so much!

I was happy with the FPS I had with my 4090 card and with 14900K CPU. But having the DSR option is a different level. Thank you. I didn't know such feature. Since I have the fastest CPU and the GPU, I left the smoothing at 33% and also I tried TAA instead of DLSS. I tried this because I thought that my GPU may not need to reduce the quality because it already is a powerful card and everything was great even without the DLSS option. But I hear my GPU fans quite a lot :) Oh when I used TAA, my FPS with everything ULTRA was around 60-70. With DLSS it's over 90-100. For now I stick with DLSS but it was nice to have the option to use TAA without loosing any quality and still having a great FPS. Oh my monitor resolution is also 2K.

    I tested this today and I can confirm a good result. I got a Ryzen 7 2700X, RTX3070 and 32GB RAM.
Although I couldn't get it to be 100% fluent at every scenery, I got somewhat fluent gameplay with the Fenix at Heathrow (FPS drops if you get scenery-heavy areas in your view, maybe from 30-40 fps down to 20-25).
Same with PMDG in KLAX, although there it seemed to have much more consistent fluidity, I think at about 35-40fps. I think that's because PMDG manages much better performance-wise.
Although DLSS always caused me trouble on the tapes or when changing altimeter setting because it makes the values very blurry when the digits are changing, I'm going to ignore that for the sake of more fluent gameplay.
    Thank you dear Sir !
PS: My graphics card still only got up to about 30-40% but I think maybe thats because I upgraded my PC a few times over the years and I use an ASUS RoG Strix B450F Mainboard, which only has PCIe 3.0, so that's probably another bottleneck for the card since it's using PCIe 4.0.

Great video, well done and thanks for making it.
Best test to use as well is bad performance airports to see worst case scenario fps...
    Needs to be during daytime,
    Do New York, Manhattan,
    Depart JFK,
    Arrive Newark,
Set One World Trade Centre building as the point of interest.
Now do a take off JFK and fly over the one WTC building and land at Newark.
This gives a great indicator of the lowest fps you will get.
I also fly the Bonanza as well.
Before video changes I got 26-28fps doing this test.
I will post back once I've made this video changes with my results...
    My specs:
    W3690 @ 4GHz HyperThreading Off,
    24GB DDR3 1333MHz Triple Channel ECC,
    Nvidia RTX 3060 12GB
There's also huge stability to be found by:
    1) Start MSFS,
    2) On the main menu, open up Task Manager
    3) Go to Processes tab,
    4) MSFS executable and set Affinity to untick Core 0
This works so well to reduce stutters by leaving the first core free for the OS - why is this important?
MSFS does a lot to pull in datasets off the internet and if your OS cant even process downloads, the sim stutters on approach, new areas, new weather updates/refreshes etc.
Free up Core 0 to let the OS have room to function.
I should add, turning off HyperThreading (SMT) is a huge gain in stability and better minimum frames as well.
This is due to the L2 cache amount being halved per core when HT (SMT) is on. This introduces additional CPU bottleneck, not to mention a virtual core is only 30% of a real core so again, introducing further CPU bottleneck.

I was skeptical watching this video, but HOLY COW - what kind of voodoo magic is this? I followed your settings (with a couple of minor differences within the MSFS graphics settings), and the difference is phenomenal! I'm running a Core i9 10900KF and a new RTX 4070 (replaced my RTX 3070 last week) on a Dell S3220DGF (1440p) curved monitor, and I swear this has taken away the fuzziness of the gauges in everything I've tried so far. The overall clarity of everything is amazing. It honestly makes the monitor appear look like it's (near) 4k. I still plan on getting a larger 4k OLED sometime in 2024, but this has given my Dell a renewed life.
One question, would there be any benefit to someone who's already running on a 4k monitor? Are these settings even necessary on one?

With a 3060 card I cant push my resolution above 2560 x 1440 without fps becoming unusable, but I can now run with quality settings rather than balanced and it all seems much smoother , considering I used to have to run at 1920 res to egt goos stable fps this is a great visual improvement for me. Not sure if its psychological but performance in VR (Oculus Quest 2) also seems more stable and views more detailed. Cockpit is a lot crisper.

Dude… 3060 12GB/3600x/ 36GB ram. I’m suffering bad because I got a 4k tv back when I bought my Xbox one. Now I’m on the same tv and anything lower than 4k gets all jaggy. So I gotta live without traffic and low LODS. It feels like my CPU just can’t handle this game tbh, because even at low res I get only 40 fps at most.

I have to admit, I was very skeptical of the video. Specially since I have watched many videos and have tried a many different things. HANDS Down, this has had the greatest impact for me. In addition to what you did, I actually also disabled all airport traffic, based on another video I watched and I can confirmed its a HUGE FPS killer when on approach and landing. Since I use FSLTL and GSX Pro, don't really miss the traffic much. I also have frames generation enabled which is available in the RTX 40 series. I went from having around 60-80 FPS on highest settings and on high demanding scenery to 90 - 120 FPS. It's like butter, thank you very much.
    My specs:
MB: MSI PRO Z790-P WIFI LGA 1700 AT
    CPU: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700KF, 3400 Mhz, 16 Core(s), 24 Logical Processor(s)
    GPU: RTX 4070 12G
    RAM: DDR5 32G
    Storage: 3TB Nvme
    Power: 700w

nice video, the only thing to improve is that I had to set the playbackspeed to 1.75 for better experience

Man, than you so much for this video! I tried your suggestions on my RTX 2060 and boy what a difference to the quality and the framerates. Wasn't expecting this much out of my somewhat old graphics card. Hope you're looking forward to the Caribbean World Update like I am 🙂

This is great. Thank you! Getting a bit stressed by the power draw on my GPU now though!
