For those of you with a 7800X3D chip, make sure to check your BIOS!!! Motherboards have had issues with providing too much SOC voltage. This can cause premature chip degradation or catastrophic failure. All boards should have a BIOS update at this point to address this issue.

I have the same CPU, the only reason 5800X3d was great, was people with older CPUs like 1700X were able to get a substantial performance increase, by just swapping the CPU. This is not the case for 7000 if you ask me. 99% are better off with 7700x or lower, those %0.1 lows are also bullshit, a game like Jedi Survivor has stutter every now and then and no CPU can fix that.

I don't think this answer the fundamental question though. Is pairing a 7700X with a $800 GPU better than pairing a 7800X3D with a $700 GPU? There are instances where the 7800X3D will offer a benefit thanks to the 3D-Vcache, but in some games it doesn't. Whereas, having a faster GPU will give you a performance boost in all games all the time over a slower one.

    • @CyberneticArgumentCreator
      @CyberneticArgumentCreator ปีที่แล้ว +5

My philosophy is to get the most you can in your budget towards CPU initially, since most games will be fine with either configuration, but having a more solid platform for the whole system allows you to do the leapfrog of 3 years, GPU upgrade, 3 years more CPU upgrade, GPU, CPU, GPU, CPU like that with more average performance over time that buying midrange systems whole cloth every 4-5 years. If $100-150 more on CPU allows you to stretch multiple more years out of it, you're saving money.

I think that was a fail for the 7800x3D. Its cache after all doesn't make a big difference for the GPU utilization. A bit, sometimes, but overall the "bottleneck" is truly elsewhere (clock speed, architecture, etc). And many fps did not change, or they changed in a completely irrelevant way (like 143 to 176). A few of those differences might look cool (elsewhere there are none), they are pretty silly, useless differences, except for very specific monitor situations. The real differences can only be seen in something like 80 vs 110 fps. And for that, again, a smaller GPU would be a more practical benchmark choice to make a buying decision about as clear as it can be.

The CPUs serve GPUs to a very similar degree. It's more that the 7800x3D can crank out more (often useless) frames in games with extra CPU-demand (by somehow striking a better balance thanks to cache).

    I am looking to buy/build a good budget-friendly PC
My current budget amount is- 600-700$
Can you please suggest which build would be better? I am confused, about Intel or Ryzen.
I am also looking for the latest motherboard & components that would support future upgrades for RAM, etc., and if I can install a good GPU on this same budget, that would be great.
Please suggest some configurations for both Intel & AMD. It's a request and please reply.
PC would be used for gaming & work

I paired a 4090 with a 7600 and reduce the wattage of the gpu until I have a good-enough framerate in the game I'm playing, Forza Horizon 120fps = ca. 38% Wattage = My whole system only draws about 260 Watts and stays very cool... For Cyberpunk maxed out and any future games , I can go to 111%. The Palit software is really good for this with the Gamerock 4090, it goes from 34% to 111% and you can save several profiles for different games. With 48% the 4090 matches my previous card, a 3080TI, which was frankly fast enough (but was less efficient and not as easily configurable)

  • @jasonhowe1697

Personally for me I would likely build in context of 2 system builds actually scratch that 3 builds using current pc as base, and 2 new units as tests with a capture card and a hdmi switch between the 4
kinda pointless comparing am4 and ddr4 and am5 and ddr5 when only using a dd4 mainboard..
same point also exists comparing 2-3 generations of gpu's starting at 8GB, 16GB and 24GB, though until we see gpu's greater than 128/256/512GB or1+TB increments ...
whilst increasing ram frequency may fix bottleneck in testing resolution and fps in a interim fashion when is quantity of gpu going to increase to fix overheads that that has plagued the igpu ndustry the last 15-20 years
I think until we start 128GB -1TB cards present in the market place it is hard to see we will be at in future because we've been needing past 24GB just to to support 4khdr, 8k, dolby vision and dolby atmos and any other high bandwidth for both FPS and resolutions you are fighting in the last 5 years see no point in graphical testing because the bottleneck has always been the quantity of ram not its speed it obtains per clock cycle
current gpu's with a graphical update to pc games of between 95-05 the current generation gpu's may be fine in running though looking just at the pc gaming of the last 5 years ever a, aa and aaa title you can name has had to be patched to run on lack of ram gpu's
looking at what it costs to scrub streaming content for streaming i wonder is what we have in gpu's at 24GB just isn't enough today let alone the future of gaming at 24GB

9:30 You can get constant 240+ fps or hit the 300 fps cap all the time in FIRING RANGE. But with that same gpu+cpu, the amount of fps you get on the edge sides of the map in an actual match can be less than 190 because the game will be rendering the whole map which results in a HUGE fps drop. (It's how it works in Apex Legends) So next time do your tests in actual matches instead of firing range.
