This game uses a feature of the MMC3 that isn't used much: placing sprites behind background tiles. This looks really cool on the Famicom when you're flying behind those mesh screens. That's all I have to add.
This is definitely one of the best shooters on the console I think. I've always wondered if the Pixel who developed this game are the same ones who supposedly made Topple Zip and X-Men, because I struggle to imagine a difference in quality that big in just over a year.
I remember playing this one last year and enjoying it a lot. Not my favorite shmup but a top 5 for the ones I've played so far. I still don't really understand why it has a PAL version but not a US version though. Another interesting thing is there was meant to be a sequel but sadly it never got made. Such tragedy...
This is the best game Hot B ever published, isn't it? I can't think of anything better off the top of my head. Probably wouldn't buy it for the current prices, but it's worth playing if you can get it somewhat cheaper!
*as he's getting crushed in a tight block maze* "the problem with this game is it's too easy"
One thing not covered the video that I think warrants a mention is that Over Horizon also has a really nice soundtrack composed by Masaharu Iwata. 😊
I generally let the images and sound speak for themselves, but you're right that Over Horizon has got a pretty good sound track.

Dammit! I, too, was hoping to be clued in on the story. I had to admit defeat on this front in my own review as well for the same reason.

Nintendo Power suggested a US release was in the cards, since they not only did a capsule review of it, but even published that sprite-changing cheat.
Very decent game. I'd say that this developer (Pixel) got some bangers in a Famicom library while Hot▪B is still best-known for Hoshi o Miru Hito 😮

Interesting that this game is one of those games that got a western release in Europe, but not America.
heard about this one! definitely checked out the rom at some point and yeah, for sure a solid shootemup.
I never heard of this one. It looks good.

This or Bad Omen MD.
Very cool game. I'd rank it somewhere next to Dragon Spirit, because both are solid shmups that are a bit on the easy side.
