Don Henley doesn't want people to record video so that no one finds out he actually isn't singing his songs. He is singing to backing tracks.

My wife and I last saw the Eagles in Lake Tahoe a few years back. Same crap. Men had to lift our shirts up going through security to make sure we had no recordings devices. My wife, who is 3rd in charge of a massive Nor Cal hospital, was required to have an hospital issued iPad on her person at all times. The Eagles and security wouldn't let her in with the iPad. Security made it at least easy for her to check while we were there. Security was all over every one. Not only no photos or recordings, but you were to sit there: no standing or dancing, and be thankful to be in the presence and breathing the same air as Don Henley. We got through about 15 minutes of that crap and gave our front row seats to a young couple sitting in the way back. I won't ever see an Eagles concert again. I will not buy any of their music. And I don't play any of their covers on my guitar in public ever. If you want to enjoy the Eagles, go see Don Felder! Dude was amazing!

The reason they freak out about video footage is that they lip sync every song and if you took two different videos from two different nights they would lay over each other EXACTLY with zero deviation from night to night to night, proving they’re lip syncing. There is NOBODY more infamous in the entire music business for his totally ridiculous, paranoid, hostile concerns about music royalties and cash-flow revenue stream than Don Henley. Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and many other huge names even bigger than the Eagles ---- do NOT pursue fans taking photos and videos like Henley does. Most of these big names know that it's the fans who made them all the mega-billionaires and mega-millionaires they are today. The surviving members of Queen just sold their entire catalogue for $1.5 billion. Are they as unhappy as poor Don Henley? The answer is NO.

This happened to me, I manged to get a free ticket to go and watch Paul McCartney at The Cavern in Liverpool in 2018. Security saying to not film inside while we are queuing to go in. We wait an hour inside waiting for him to come on stage, Paul comes on, phones go up to take pics/vids, I didn't then he said "we are gonna do a little jam to start with" so I thought I'd record 20 seconds of this jam that I didn't care about so I could enjoy every other song that I knew I'd love without staring through my phone camera. So I'm recording it, then after 10 seconds I feel someone grab my arm and pull me back, it was security, he doesn't care and throws me out of the most in demand artist in the history of music.

Lots of people saying phones at gigs are bad and I tend to agree but there are ways of going about things, Tool ask audiences not film or take photos but on last song they tell everybody they can get they’re phones out as long as they turn off the flash, they ask nicely and most people agree the understanding goes both ways it makes for pretty special gig.

It ain't a rumor. I recorded a band that covered hotel California. You Tube told me to delete it or the whole video would be killed
I mean I didn't do the cover..I just recorded it not realizing Henley.s prohibition. Hey copyright is a good thing...but very few musicians penalize others for doing covers. So your comments don't surprise me.

Don Henley would have given his concert security the instruction to shut down all phone use. The problem is, Don Henley doesnt realize that trying to stop people using their phones is like trying to stop a river flowing with your hand, aint gonna happen. Henley might have a point, that people should enjoy the ACTUAL experience of the show, instead of being so concerned with documenting it on their devices, but still, its naive to think you can stop it, and only serves to alienate him from his audience.
