This is a powerful powerful song, it tears right thru you if you've ever been in this situation. Heartbreak is a mf.. "One day you'll be a star in someone else's sky." Rips a hole in your heart.
I’m now 13 and I listen to Pearl Jam everyday I flew with my dad to Chicago to see them at Wrigly Field and could easily say it was my favorite concert out of the 200 something I’ve been to

They are still making amazing music and yes, Eddie's voice is still very powerful. They have been touring pretty much continuously since 1992. I love them. Of all the grunge (hate that word) they are really the only one left.

I introduced my 2 sons to Rock, Metal and Grunge. One is in HS now the other 7th gr. Guess what they listen to? Autotuned crap pop music. Pisses me off.
I live at South East Asia and really thankful that my brother went to us for study and when he come back, we really amaze with lot of music that he brought back. One of them is Pearl Jam CD called Ten. Another that I really like is Aerosmith called big ones.

Pearl Jam was inducted into the Rock N Roll hall of fame in 2017. They are definitely still together and putting out records. They still tour frequently and are an excellent live band. My favorite band by far.
Listen to their album Live On Two Legs - fucking awesome! Seeing PJ live is a beautiful, intense, life-shaping experience, so if you ever get the opportunity to catch a show of theirs, take it.
To answer your question. Yes. This song was inspired by a real event. The music was written by Stone and he called it "E Ballad", named after Eddie's high school ex gf Elise. Eddie put the words to it after Stone wrote it and called it Black. There is a vid on here when they were just starting out and at the end of the song Eddie says, "Elise where ever you are." And Stone pulled him off the stage. It was heartbreaking. Eddie was a mess. "We, we belong together, together....oh yeah"
This is still the best song Pearl Jam have ever written. Apparently their record company practically begged the band to release it as a single. But it was so personal to the band that they said no.
Love this song, brings back many great memories! You introducing this music to your daughter is PRICELESS!Love the beard-cool t-shirts!Eddie Vedder is amazing, also a die-hard CUBS fan!Keep up the great reactions!⚾⚾😜😜👍
What you're doing is awesome. Wish i had this with my dad when i was a kid. More dads need to do this with music. Thanks for making me smile. Hope you guys have a great year
Eddie Vedder’s voice has gotten better with age! He has mellowed a bit, done sound tracks and he is still amazing. I listen ti him a lot still!! Some great TH-cam videos with recent stuff.
i've read an interview from Eddie regarding this song. He didn't give deets, but said that even today, he's right back there when he sings Black. Right back to that place. About as deep, raw, & authentic as you can go, & so romantic :-)
Pearl Jam is still rockin on tour. Just saw them play at Wrigley Field this past August. Still ever so amazing! Thank you for taking the time to introduce your child to the music from this time era. And kudos to your child for being open to listen and learn.
Saw Pearl Jam in concert last year in August in Seattle! 2 shows at safeco field, both sold out shows! So yeah they’re still killing it! Vedder has aged like fine wine!!
Me, too - I took the long road from Hungary 'cos I'd wanted to see my favourite band even outside Europe & in the Mecca of grunge as well. Both were brilliant and unforgettable especially the 2nd gig. I couldn't resist attending Chicago 1 gig, too.
They’re still the best live band around!! You should definitely try to catch a show :) , and bring your daughter, lots of kids around at a PJ concert. It’s fun and chill, a few cuss words (yay for Vedder, lol), but it’s a cool crowd.
Hard to believe, but Pearl Jam is still doing their thing almost 30 years later. I was a geeky early adopter, loved them from the minute I heard 'em in 1990 or 1991. Apparently, Eddie is doing a solo tour this Summer, so go see him, he still sings like nobody's business. Still gives me the shivers at 3:32
I just got to your channel and I loved it. It is fascinating that you show your daughter the music that sounded in past years, that you can perceive the emotions that were behind such emotional songs (as they are to those who have reacted). Personally I do it with teenage students who like music and are members of a band. And I would like to give you a huge and long list of songs, but I think that in principle, I think of another of the best unplugged that MTV did in the 90s, as is the band LIVE, another great postgrunge band. A huge congratulation for this idea and I have become a big fan from Mexico. I would also like to suggest that you react to mexican rock, as a way to broaden horizons even more.
They definitely have no broken up. They have definitely kept up!! They are still touring,!!! Eddie is still the bad ass he has always been, and so are the rest of them. They are the only Seattle grunge band still standing in original form!!
Hey man, great job. Pearl Jam is still going strong. Eddie still has an amazing voice. I'm going to see them next summer. Not sure what states they are coming to next year but I missed out this year. They tour every year and Eddie does a lot of solo concerts the rest of the year. He's my favorite singer ever. He always has so much soul in his music and the way he sings. so much emotion. You need to still go see them. Still amazing.
I'm finally "that guy" I did not appreciate this band, let alone this song, and I was about that age when it came out. Now it's in my top 10 of greatest songs ever, and specifically this performance. Keep going Bearded Beast, you did well to not push too hard. Whether you knew it or not, slowplaying this one is all you can really do.
I lived in Seattle during the music movement. Incredible time to see all the bands! Pearl Jam has continued to be my favorite. Song writing of Eddie Vedder is incredible and touches your soul!
Joey's band from full house. That cracks me up. I think she needs to hear more of it to get the understanding of true Eddie. I had my daughter loving his voice by 9 years old. And I know she got tired of me singing the songs pretending I could sing like him. I think her words were "give it up, Dad". :-)
Eddie Vedder is an absolute joy to listen to. The 1st cd brought many of the songs to light. The song "Difference" is another great song. So is "immortality". Take a listen to "I'm still here". Clear, is a concise little known Eddie Vedder is an absolute joy to listen to. The 1st cd brought many of the songs to light. The song "Indifference" is another great song. So is "immortality". I met a girl not too long ago and we instantly got a connection. But when I confronted her with my feelings for her, she only saw me as a friend and turned me down. And it broke my heart. this song reminds me of that. (we're still friends btw but we do not have as much contact as before).
This song is in fact based on a true story. Eddie Vedder wrote this song about a long time girlfriend in college. Pearl Jam never released this song as a single. It fe into the laps of radio stations once the album "Ten" was released and many people took to the song. Eddie said that the song was never going to be released as a single due to it being "to personal" but it hit the mainstream rock charts and stayed at #3 on the mainstream rock charts for many weeks. Eddie performed this song a couple of years ago on his solo tour and broke down crying in the song as he was performing it. That video is also on TH-cam for all of us to see. This unplugged performance of "black" has never been outdone by the band and this performance remains the best live version of this song to date.
Eddie Vedder may be the band's most famous member, but a little known fact is that God almighty himself plays lead guitar for PJ... Saint Michael McCready, praise his name
I think the country sound she’s hearing is the unplugged versions. Same as nutshell. Hopefully she hears the original versions to both because those are two of my all time favorite songs. Nice video Keep reacting guys 👍🏻
A couple of beers and we could have a blast with the music.. My scene..i have alternate song from eddie vedder , bob dylan, ben harper , beatles ,...heads up a movie came out directed by saun penn called into the wild... Eddie wrote and sung sound track , some haunting and unique ones. I saw pearl jam in late 90 s in sydney ...the guy sipped a bottle of wine in his hand , smoked cigarettes and didnt stop singing for two hours..incedible talent and voice ..🙂
I wonder about "time" as a major part of the context. People heard a song like this and it felt new. Before then, lyrics in popular rock had been mostly tacky and ridiculous, then all at once, as I began high school, we hear something like, "Sheets of empty canvas..." or "Disarm you with a smile..." or "I'm not like them, but I can pretend..." and so on. Young people were presented a whole new level of poetry. Plus, the blend of musical sweetness and strength felt new. The aesthetic felt new. There seemed to be a freedom of identity.
Good ol' Pearl Jam! Yep, I definitely would love to hear you guys reacting some Rayne's kind a music too! Also would be nice to see in the future you reacting some 80's - is it glam rock or what? - like those L.A.'s bad boys, Mötley Crue's "Wild Side". I think Mick Mars is so underrated guitarist mainly because he doesn't play those super fast solos, but he's a real riff-monster!
We actually just uploaded a song she wanted me to hear! The Juice WRLD song. Earlier on we did panic at the disco and cardi b songs she loved. Gonna start working some more in. Yeah, we were actually looking at GNR earlier. I'll definitely get to some good hair bands. At least the hits we heard 10000x on that late night commercial... 😂
I saw Motley Crue about 10 years ago opening for Aerosmith. Even back then Mick Mars looked like he had been dead for about six months and someone dug him up for the show. He's definitely a great guitarist though.
@@sumguy4435 Yup, that's because of his spine condition (ankylosing spondylitis, I quess). He moves very stiffly and slowly. But his hands and head works fine. Also he has a great sense of humor, because he likes to highlight that image with his make up and clothes. Definitely looks like a corpse! In Helsinki 2007 they pushed him on the stage with a wheelchair. He's a man who doesn't whine for "little things" but do what he loves to do - play some kick ass rock!
Yes, it's about his first love...although they tried to make it work, she left him around the time he went to start singing for what would become Pearl Jam
They are still together. The only member that has changed is the drummer. I saw them at Fenway Park in Boston last year...Awesome show!!!! They were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. :)
I just suscribed because i want to see your kid keep listening to good music.... Music teaches you to think and always to be open to new things (Good Music, not the kind of shit is produced nowadays) I started at early 90´s, Grunge era, Guns n' Roses and Metallica. There is still hope.... and your kid is a living proof. Greettings from Costa Rica.
yes they are still together touring eddie is amazing still i would love to see him in concert i havent yet i will i will def. he does have so much passion in this song i wonder if it is true what meaning there is behind this song though..... he has sooo much passion period
They're still together, the last album they released was in 2013, and they said they're going to release a new one in 2019. You should check out their newest material. Check out "Just breathe" (2009) with Rayne, then both of you can have a first impression together, if you haven't seen it yet
subscribed to your channel man. its cool to see u showing your kid our generations music. its crazy to think how much music has changed from our generation to this ones. pearl jams prime was like from '91-'96.. they still put out some good music after that, but it wasnt as good. to me anyway. thats just my opinion. i havent really kept up with them either. pearl jam and stp were my favorite bands from that era. although i dont really consider stp "grunge"..it was more of just hard rock.
It's a true story. I don't love this version of that song, but it's a great intro to pearl jam, you might want to point out Stones beautiful chord progressions
Not my favorite version of this song, but my all time favorite song in my lifetime. Please listen to the version from the Fox Theater in Atlanta. Amazing! Also... The story behind the song is that Eddie was living in California and was attempting to make a life by being an artist. He had a female who agreed to become his muse and pose for him as he drew. Over time he started to fall in love with her, but knew it was impossible to become reality. He never told her. He wrote this song in his own mind instead. If you know the entirety of the song's lyrics, it all makes sense. It's the only song in their entire history that he has never officially released the lyrics to the song. Showing how personal this song is to him. Sad and beautiful at the same time.
hey ! great video ! the song is base on a true story also it is the first song that Eddy wrote for PJ! PJ is still alive and they are still going ! check Sirens from them
Good vid. The reason why he thinks it “sounds like country “ is because country now did what rock did and incorporated more styles into the genre (country added lot rock elements) that being said..... I enjoy roots rock which shows us where rock came from. Rock is the earliest genre to include elements of all past to become something unique. Roots rock musicians to name a few- Beatles, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Skinard, Crosby Stills, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, Stones, Doors, Who, AC DC, Black Sab, Hendrix, Clapton, Zeppelin, Nirvana, PJ, AIC, NIN, Smash Pump Garth Brooks did this well early and called it country rock ...,, and all have common thread. Blues, Jazz, Country, R&B, Classical, Folk, Rockabilly,Surf, and I’m sure more that I can’t think of this second is what they all took from to make “rock” well Rock. It’s not that it sounds country, country sounds like it. @ end day who cares it’s just music. Great last example is Sometimes I Cry song from C Stapleton, its clearly a roots rock blues soul song but he sings it so it’s labeled “country” it’s just a great song by great singer 😎

For once they're 100% accurate.

Show him again in 5 years when he has had his heart broken.
Cool haircut. Thanks for this vid. The 90's ruled
Yes, it's about his first love...although they tried to make it work, she left him around the time he went to start singing for what would become Pearl Jam
What a cool channel!
They are still together. The only member that has changed is the drummer. I saw them at Fenway Park in Boston last year...Awesome show!!!! They were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. :)
Wow I love it a young kid listening to good music
New album soon. his voice is still excellent. Check the video out for "Sirens" off their last album "Lightning Bolt". Another good slow track.
Pearl jam has a new single called... Can’t Deny Me
I love Eddie's voice too It's so unique in my mind
Thats what i call music education, showing that kind of music.
Regards from Tijuana México 👌
I just suscribed because i want to see your kid keep listening to good music.... Music teaches you to think and always to be open to new things (Good Music, not the kind of shit is produced nowadays) I started at early 90´s, Grunge era, Guns n' Roses and Metallica. There is still hope.... and your kid is a living proof. Greettings from Costa Rica.
Chills...I miss the 90's :(
I thought my screen was cracked!
yes they are still together touring eddie is amazing still i would love to see him in concert i havent yet i will i will def. he does have so much passion in this song i wonder if it is true what meaning there is behind this song though..... he has sooo much passion period
Love Pearl Jam, but Eddie Vedder voice is beautiful...love their live performances but haven't heard this one before, cheers
Yes!!!
Yes on all accounts! Still an amazing band
AHHHHHH!!!! Perfection.
They're still together, the last album they released was in 2013, and they said they're going to release a new one in 2019. You should check out their newest material. Check out "Just breathe" (2009) with Rayne, then both of you can have a first impression together, if you haven't seen it yet
Vinicius Morais they had a single song come out earlier this year
Give him Porch at Pinkpop
They are still amazing. Eddie is mind blowing still.
Eddie is one of a kind!
Eddie Vedder is the best vocalist in my opinion
subscribed to your channel man. its cool to see u showing your kid our generations music. its crazy to think how much music has changed from our generation to this ones. pearl jams prime was like from '91-'96.. they still put out some good music after that, but it wasnt as good. to me anyway. thats just my opinion. i havent really kept up with them either. pearl jam and stp were my favorite bands from that era. although i dont really consider stp "grunge"..it was more of just hard rock.
Good song. I enjoyed listening to it!
Ladies and gentlemen the one and only Mr. Dave Abbruzzese on drums
LOL, the music today is mostly autotune or some kind of electrical help. Not all but mostly.
hey ! great video ! the song is base on a true story also it is the first song that Eddy wrote for PJ! PJ is still alive and they are still going ! check Sirens from them
So what does Rain listen to on her own on a daily basis?
Mostly hip hop/rap and not sure how to characterize it but female indie vocalists? (Halsey, Melanie Martinez, etc.)
*Rayne
@@beautyandthebeardedbeast Have her try Teagan and Sara. Their early stuff is indie/alternative.
I do love how you are bringing your kid into our musical past. Music today is terrible. Check out throw your arms around me with eddie vedder
Full House? OMG!!!
