After watching this excellent short documentary I can say with confidence that David "Rock" Nelson is one of the most genuine, positive, self-driven artists I've ever had the pleasure to discover and learn about. His life and works are truly inspiring! I think we can all learn a lot from a man like David. These days it's all too often that we criticize others for their unique and or different characteristics, personalities, and interests just because they don't fit neatly into a generalized social norm. We all stand to gain wisdom by learning about his life and works. We can especially learn from "The Rock" how to live more genuinely and be true to ourselves while embracing positivity, optimism, compassion, and respect for others. David's unwavering passion, unique personality, and lifelong commitment to interpersonal kindness and creativity are essential modern virtues. This was a great episode of *OUTSIDER*. Thanks, Zack Carlson! :)
True story.. My friend and I met this guy on the bus & for the whole ride he talked to us about his movies & his terrible acid reflux. It was the same day of his bus scene. He told us we'd make great vampires lol. What a small world.
The man is so passionate about filming ANYTHING (Movies or Vlogging) that people can't let go of their ego to actually dive into his mentality. I've been around people like him and I'm so thankful those people exist. They never let anyone or anything kill their passion and that's motivation, man.
I live in the same town as him. The last time I saw him he was flexing in front of the Jewel Osco security camera so he could see himself on the TV haha.
@Isabelle Deitz Man I was rolling. 17:44 Was that freaking hilarious or what...Had milk boogers..Didn't think anything could top that until 18:35. Dad calling the cops. I freaking spit out the popcorn in my mouth with laughter. This guy is a treasure.
I love the idea of a crappy Universal Monster who only floats around cackling at people and all his "victims" just find him completely exhausting. He's not really threatening at all, he's just very annoying.
can't believe the haters who "dislkied" this & say that VICE is useless, diminished, etc i loved this, it was a really sweet documentary about a true iconoclast & positive thinker the world needs MORE people like him and a helluva lot less conformity have gladly subscribed to vice after watching this (it was my first intro to you all)
I agree with everything you jus said I just saw a comment saying how this person unsubscribed because this was pointless and that Vice has been on a downward spiral for years but in my opinion it's only gotten better yeah so what this didn't make a whole lot of sense when we have news of terrorism around the world but this is news I like watching because it keeps us real there was nothing fake about that just 100% honesty and truth and we need a lot more of that in this world with the way it's going no one has that kind of attitude towards anything these days and we need more people like David 'The Rock' Nelson on this planet
I remember being in film school and once a month we used to drop E and watch VHS tapes of Dave "Rock" Nelson's films from when the bars closed at 2am until we ran out of movies to watch. I was constantly amazed that we went from me and my buddy Luke watching in my small apartment living room to about 30-40 people watching on a projector TV in the back of the bar I worked at after close. If you went to film school with us in the 90's and were chill this became a right of passage. I love his work.
Channel name "David ROCK Nelson", username RockNelsonMovies. Per Social Blade, his estimated yearly earnings are $6 - $94. Of course Social Blade estimates that I make slightly more than that, yet I haven't monetized any of my videos, so take those figures with a grain of salt (or sugar, if you prefer).
DanHarkless ﴾Halloween videos, YTPs, & more﴿ His TH-cam channel isn’t doing super well because the content is as scattered as his blessed thought processes.
What VICE really needs to do is give all these guys classes on modern recording techniques and digital editing. Then maybe one more on TH-cam culture/algorithms then boom, you've got 3+ new badass tubers.
Yeaaah...thanks for the update..i think i noticed that within the first 10 seconds. It's like me eating a cookie and teling people around me, hey 72vince27 is about to eat a cookie. Ease up fam.
When I started watching this, I had no idea that this was EXACTLY what I needed to see at this moment in time. We can all learn from David 'Rock' Nelson, and it's such a simple lesson. Do what you love, just keep doing it, and bollocks to anyone who doesn't get it.
*this deserves so many millions of view!!!!!!!!!* honestly just watching how happy this man is, and, *seeing how; David rock nelson gives -1000,000,000 fucks about what people think of him, and, how the world sees him!!!* & that he had stumbled upon something one day that; *in that moment seemed irrelevant to and had no idea what kind of part in played & still plays in his future!* he's lucky enough to have found that special something which plenty of people never have and for some never really will. at first it was just a hobby, and, now he's gotten a fair amount of recognition from his passion!! *it has brought him such joy and happiness alongside countless awesome memories of great times since the day he picked up a camera and threw a blank tape in and hit record!!!* *to be honest with myself as-well as the internet; this video was such an inspiring, fucking hilarious, happy & very VERY amazingly recorded & put together piece about David 'Rock' Nelson!!!* honestly; at first I thought this was strange and stupid, then maybe but 5 minutes into the short documentary *I found him & his story to be incredibly motivating as-well as inspiring as all hell. to *just keep on doing what you love,* the way you want to do it that's enjoyable! and *everyone else can eat a big bag of children's grape flavoured Tylenol hairy sweaty & cheese fragranced sailor cocks with no ketchup!!!!* *whoever those 185 people that disliked are, we can obviously tell that they're beyond square and can't recognize: proper part of, true happiness! passion & a kind of crazy that ensure that persons life is nothing but a joy, and, full of experience an teachings of what it means TO HAVE LIVED A FUCKING FULL AND SATISFYING LIFE DAMNIT!!!!! :'D* :''')
I love this man so much. He's pure at heart and his passion about everything is unbridled; I wish more people in this world would encompass this kind of energy today.
This guy has a great attitude about doing what makes you happy despite what people say, but I also feel like he's an absolute chore to hang around with in person ha ha
This guy is fucking weird I must say. But with his weirdness comes a genuine person that is a gem in today's society, I feel that as much as all of us watching this like to feel that we are as genuine as this guy, we're wrong. He displays a sort of "out of the box" mindset that I feel he isn't even aware of. I wish I could be like this guy. VICE sometimes you guys report on mundane topics, but even though this is definitely one of the weirdest videos I've seen on the internet, below the surface it's one of the best videos I've seen in a while. Good work.
I would actually guess autism! I'm an autistic social worker who works with special needs families and his unbridled enthusiasm and mannerisms remind me a lot of the autistic people I work with. it's so refreshing to see someone completely unhindered by "normalcy" and just out here trying to accomplish his dreams and have fun.
@Nenethegreat W do you have a degree that enables you to state such a wildly untrue thing like it's fact? not everyone's success and coping looks the same as yours. there are circumstances and experiences you'll never have to deal with, so you can't judge how other people do so.
I absolutely love him. His joy and passion make my heart warm. I don't understand how people could be so harsh on this guy. Vice pulled a great journalism move. I respect this guy and I adore his enthusiasm for monster movies. He seems like a ball of everliving joy, I personally love his work for the creativity and uplifting childhood nostalgia. His movies reminds me of when I was young, running around with a big camcorder and some masks. I enjoyed this alot.
omg i almost cried when i saw davids brother working with him. I can relate because my brother always helps with my projects in my audio and visual class even though he hates it. ❤️
I met Dave before at the Park Ridge Public Library, he went to the same high school I did, seems like a cool guy. You have to love his enthusiasm for the movies.
“Okay I’m gonna bash your face in with this rock....I mean this brick” lmfao I can’t imagine being in a car with this guy for 15 hours. Awesome dude, just a little too much to be stuck in a small space for a long period of time.
This guy is fantastic! Not like the regular pretentious Hollywood asshole. Just a genuinely nice dude who wants people to enjoy his movies however they choose to. Bless this crazy bastard.
This guy is crazy and that is awesome, a true example of love for his craft and not giving a fuck about anything or anyone else opinions, he is genuine and uncompromising and that's scary to most people
This guy is amazing I'm so happy I found this! He seems like a nice guy to be around and just wants people to be happy and make stupid dumb stuff that wants to make people happy!
Huge Rock fan. Thanks for making this. When I tell people about the rock I use this video as an educational piece to help them understand what a guy he is! Love him.
Cassandra Sparkles I think he's met Lloyd before at a few horror conventions. If you follow him on social media he frequently posts photos of the different celebrities/icons he's met over the years.
No fucking way. I lived in Des Plaines for 6 years and in the next town over in Mt Prospect for almost my whole life. I love the bizarre and weird. I cant believe I didnt know about this guy. I guarauntee ive met him dozens of times and not known it. I cant believe it. Im definitely gonna look him up and walk over and say hi.
This is 100% what this guy is like in real life. I was volunteering at a community kitchen with my friend and he walked up to us and told us all about his career. "I've got some peanut butter in my pocket"
Ha Ha Ha Awesome what a character!

How can you dislike this? This is probably some of Vice's best journalism in a while
The man is so passionate about filming ANYTHING (Movies or Vlogging) that people can't let go of their ego to actually dive into his mentality. I've been around people like him and I'm so thankful those people exist. They never let anyone or anything kill their passion and that's motivation, man.
is this the real Michael Scott?
Holy shit it is
Spot on m8
his next movie should "threat level midnight"
holy shit i was just thinking that haha
That's exactly what I have instantly thought of when I first saw him come out of his house. Amazing!
People disliking this are heartless. This man is a legend! He just wants to make peoples lives better with Maahnsta Moovies!
I live in the same town as him. The last time I saw him he was flexing in front of the Jewel Osco security camera so he could see himself on the TV haha.
I feel that in my soul
Lmfaooo idk why this is so funny guy makes movies yet excited to see himself on screen
@@MaoMoney Of course, he loves the camera.
22:15 to 22:56 What a speech!!
Be happy, be positive & be yourself.

On this episode of *OUTSIDER*, we head out on a road trip with Nelson to learn more about his life-long fascination with horror films.

This was fantastic! I’m bummed there isn’t more of these. BRING THIS SHOW BACK. Dave’s work is incredible.

"Oh no its a pumpkin man... geez.." That moment made me laugh so hard.
This dude is awesome lol. He dose what he loves. Can't hate him for that.
The biggest moment of whiplash in this video for me was when the guy said he was in the Marines.
*this deserves so many millions of view!!!!!!!!!*

this video was such an inspiring, fucking hilarious, happy & very VERY amazingly recorded & put together piece about David 'Rock' Nelson!!!*

I love this guys energy!!!
I think this is one of the best documentaries VICE has ever made.
This dude sent me an incredible amount of Facebook messages after I friended him…he really does love movies this much !
it's like ADHD, SOMA, and Adderall, had a party and this is the result.
Props to Vise for hanging out with this guy so long there’s no way I could go on the road with that dude

VICE > BUZZFEED
“Ok that’s enough, they will be calling the cops” hahahaha
This dude is the real life Michael Scott 😂😂😂 the footage of him "sneaking up" on his gf would fit perfectly into The Office
he's such an honest, nice dude. how could you NOT like him??
this needs to be an hour long and on TV regularly
Damn that’s a fucked up 3 years
2011 “Mom Dies”
2012 “Dad Dies”
2013 “Diagnosed with cancer”
Does the guy have a webpage? Anything? I watched 25 minutes on the guy and I don't remember one plug.
davidrocknelson.com his vids are $20 and $2 for shipping
He also has a youtube channel
Yeah, VICE could've thrown him a bone and at least included a link to his YT channel. It's "David ROCK Nelson", username RockNelsonMovies.
This is a living reincarnation of Michael Scott from The Office!!
I love that the interviewer genuinely respects these people and shows it. They deserve it.
this made me laugh non-stop. what a character, and a genuinely funny guy!
i think this has to be the BEST video vice has brought out yet! great !!! loved it !!!
Such a genuine human. I love this man!

This is probably the best and most human series Vice has ever done.
First minute of the clips says it all..one of the most inspiring words.
what a fucking legend.
The Outsiders series is Vice's best work
This is awesome! I love this guy’s passion for filmmaking.
Man, what an incredible human being.
I did not stop smiling. He is a delight.
He seems like a really positive, fun guy who is not scared to just be himself. Good for him👍
I just add him to my favorite movie director list, he is a true one.
