Yes. Gliders should always be kept in pairs, much better health and happiness. It's usually easier to get them in pairs, as gliders are often born as twins and good breeders will want to sell them together and will often give you a slight discount to encourage that outcome.
For an 8-12 Week Old Baby you will usually pay around 200-300 USD, which is usually the best time to get them since they haven't bonded to anyone yet. I also live in WI. so it may be slightly different for everyone but I have found that's usually around how much they cost from most breeders.. (:
So glad to be finding something that is actually informative, been running in circles trying to research these little darlins before I get one, I like to find out all I can before owning and love the information I am finding here. Thanks so much for supplying it for us new owners.
Thank you Dr. Brust- I wish our city had more exotic pet vets such as yourself. Your videos are straight to the point and educational, both for the lay person and more experienced exotic owners. thank you for taking the time to educate!
Dr. Brust, you are an inspiration. I'm in the Navy, stationed in Japan and have a sugar glider whom I adopted from an owner who did not want him. He is over a year old and had never been properly bonded with and thanks to your videos and advice, he's coming along fabulously. I've even gone so far as to order Vet's Pride glider food, and I'm looking into getting a proper cage shipped to me here. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Very glad I watched this. I am about to purchase one from a friend who breeds them, but I wanted to be sure that I got information from a reputable source.
I thinking about becoming a new owner. I've had lots of animals but these look very interesting. Thanks Sugarglidervet for posting this video. I appreciate it.
I'd like to thank your for this information. While I've never been interested in owning this specific animal. I think that all future pet owners should know, 100%, what they're getting in to prior to ownership! Regardless of you're planning upon owning a cat, dog, or exotic; you should know what you need to do as far as care (you might be surprised)!
Great video! And they are so cute...I love how they dive into your pockets to hide. They're such fascinating little creatures! I've been very curious about these little guys, so it's nice to get some valid information that will help me with making any future decisions about owning one. :)
Thanks for the video. I haven't gotten one yet. I love the fact that they're so loving. Btw, feedback on the video... in a word-cloud, the word "now" is going to be huge.
I've watch some of your videos & I find it so much interesting, before I was thinking that Sugar Gliders can't go with some other pets now I know that they can mingle with some other pets but with some good techniques you shared with us.
I loved your video! I live in Hawaii and plan to have one when I move to the mainland. I'm making sure I will live near a veterinary clinic with someone with exotic expertise (definately glider practice). I look forward to watching all your videos!
my brother gave me pair of this sugar gliders and now I wanna learn more about them, I want to take care of them for they were gift from my brother & I find them really cute.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I have had such a hard time finding reliable infromation on gliders. I feel more prepared to make my decision on getting one of these. =)
Thank you so much for making this. I was always hearing these bad myths on youtube videos about how hard they are but to me they sound easier to take care of then my cat. Only problem is I saw how expensive they can be with the pet and the cage so I won't be getting one anytime soon sadly.
They are great little critters, and whoever told you otherwise is probably against owning them or else just thinks only they can own them successfully. They don't stink, and you can take them just about anywhere with you in a pouch all day long once you get them used to riding in a car etc.
ur ******* coool no bs thanks alot for your info u rock i wanted to buy a suger glider but need to find out more info and i desided im going to buy one thanks alot for the info u rock
I'm a college student as well as a D1 athlete and I'm seriously considering getting one. The only concern I have is how much attention per day it needs. The only reason I am not getting one this year is because I live in a dorm with a roommate and wouldn't want to burden him but next year I will be living in my own room so size isn't a problem. How long is too long to be gone throughout the middle of the day for classes and practice?
Would you recommend having your sugar glider neutered if they will be the only glider in the home or will they not need to be? How does it impact their behavior? Thank you !
hi, im thinking about getting a sugar glider sometime in the future. thank you for posting these videos, there's so much information on the internet saying so many different things that its confusing. is it ok to get one while im still in school or is it better to wait? as well, do they make a lot of noise at night?
Been thinking it would be fun to get a sugar glider since I do alot of computer work and such I thought it would be fun to have a pet I can take with me and since I am a bit of a social avoider a little companion to keep me company. all the info out there was confusing but your information was straightforward and helpful.
Hello, first of all, I must say that your videos actually made me reconsider buying a glider - after watching some other ones on the internet and reading website info I thought they truly are a terrible hassle. Although a few questions from me: are there any good glider vets in Poland? Do they get sick easily and require a lot of veterinarian care? Is it true that you should never ever take them outside? And are they really so aggresive they will not get along with any other pet? Thank you!
im considering getting a sugar glider sometime in the future. all the info on the internet is very confusing, so thanks for posting this video, i was wondering if its ok to get one while im still in school, or is it better to wait? as well, do they make a lot of noise at night?
hi there, great video. i just got a 7-8 month old sugar glider. we got a big cage, lots of stuff to climb on, so she seems happy. but now we have been told that they should not be kept alone, is this true? should we get a second? if we got a second, are they territorial? please help me out with some info as we want her to be happy and healthy. thanks
I'm planning to get a sugar glider soon, and I notice you mention that they can be taught to do tricks like jumping to their owner when called. I've taken behavioral psych courses, so I'm somewhat trained in conditioning, but I noted that you suggest keeping treats to just one a day or so (which makes using high preference treats as training tools kinda hard). Do you have any suggestions for how to train them to do things like that without food incentives?
I love the fact that they just sit in your pocket all day :) would you have to stay indoors with them incase they fall or jump out? Say if you had one napping in your pocket and you needed to go shopping would that be a problem?
i have been watching the series of videos but i have one question, on the fruits and veggies does it matter if they are organic since the other ones have pestacides on them. Should i peel them for him too?
They typically live in colonies of around 12 sugar gliders. While they bond strongly to one person they will bond to a family or 'colony', the more people around to love them the better! If you do it correctly your sugar glider will love your mom and will have no problem being with her while you're away, also they're mainly nocturnal animals so if you work the day the little ones will likely be asleep while your gone and waking up when you get home!
I'm going to be a college student and really want one of these. I stay home most of the time except to go to class. Could I take one of these little guys to class with me in a pocket and be fine for a few hours? Or would it be better to leave at home?
Good job mate! I've heard that keeping a pair or more is better than keeping one. Is this true? The rational is that when i'm not spending time with it, its partner could. Would you recommend this?
Oh my gosh thank you so much!!!! ive been reading so many things that made these pets seem terrible, but you turned that around! some sites said sugar gliders need to be played with every day for like... 7 hours at night because they are noctournal, but i feel better knowing they can just snooze in your pocket :)
I have owned hedgehogs for many years & this year just got my first short tailed opossum. I love my critters dearly & they fit my lifestyle perfectly. I have liked sugar gliders for a long time, but I am always put off by them because I hear nothing but bad things about them. This video at least was straightforward & was a bit more positive about them. May make me change my mind someday. Now I have to watch all the other videos in this series!!
I live in Tennessee and am looking for a young female suger glider. I am having trouble finding one in a reasonable distance. Do you have any suggestions?
My left ear was very informed.
I love how he's putting them on his shoulder, and they just go right back for the pocket.
Skip to 1:55 to get the actual info about animals
i love how he whipped one out of his pocket. i busted up,

Vets should do this more to help owners out.

I want one!!!
i love how it went back into his pocket lol
I tried to look at the interactive health guide on the website and it said that the site is for veterinarians and that I needed to join to view.

Are Japanese Dwarf Flying Squirrels similar? Or even bred as pets? They are adorable.
I have owned hedgehogs for many years & this year just got my first short tailed opossum. I love my critters dearly & they fit my lifestyle perfectly.
