    A lot of the issues you had are very much minimized when playing with 4 players. I have the means to do this legit and its a blast. A lot of the annoyances are barely noticeable with the fun and chaos it causes having 4 Links causing mayhem. Each Link also having a different item/role also helps. The controls you get used to quickly, but some of these levels are very draining and have insanely stupid puzzles you would never find out on your own. It also sounds like you guys got super burnt out possibly from marathoning the game. Next time if you can get a full team wanting to have a party game styled time rather than a completionist mindset Im sure it'll be much more fun for you.

I think it's an amazing game but yeah it's high hurdles with its accessibility is painful. This game would do wonders on the switch if ever ported. Glad more people have been covering this gem recently even if it wasnt in the most positive light haha

    I owned this game, the gamecube, the link cable, the gameboys (but only 3)... however! Also don't forget.... These things ran on batteries so we had to buy rechargeable batteries because on one set of GBA batteries we could probably only clear around 1/3rds of the game. Sometimes we had to stop cause our batteries die. Aaaa.... I love this game a lot though, it really was fun.

    I love to hear people talk about this game!
    But I have to make one critique:
    The "Rogue Like" Zelda was GBA Four Swords (the one Bundled with ALttP GBA)
    I don't see any Rogue like Elements in FSA
    (the japanese comercial was also from GBA Four Swords)
    Sooo sorry for that one : (
    Edit:
    THIS GAME HAS ORIGINAL TRACKS
    Lake Hylia
    and Swamp
    and Vilage of the Blue Maiden (even tho this is "just" a Kakariko Remix)
    Also this game took like every A Link to the Past Song and added an additional Section!
    (Link between Worlds did the same but different so its kinda eerie going back and forth between those two games)
    Damn..... what a conclusion 😞

    In adventures defense, this version of four swords was also designed to be completed singleplayer. You cant possibly have your links in two vastly different places without it being really difficult to control, it was also bundled with Link to the Past so it would've been kinda weird if it had different controls.
    The price tag isnt justifiable but i think the expectation was for friends to bring their GBA and connectors to a single gamecube, not for one person to be the provider for everything.
    Tbh, this is my favorite zelda game, I prefer the 2D games and the graphics are adorable imo. I played the single player version via dolphin and honestly some of the things people complain about are things i never even thought of. I feel like people really hated Village of the Blue Madien but that was one of the easier levels for me, it was very straightforward and once you talked to all the avalible npcs it wasnt hard to see what you needed to do.
    Some things, like the digging holes, are definately frusterating, but this game really does have its charm and I'd kill to have it on switch.
    And to get rid of that bird boss. God was that the worse pain in single player.

    I haven't play this one but I played four sword (GBA-DS) and by the way you described it is kind of like you didn't get the idea because although co-op, at the same time you are competing to get the most triangle so is a little bit of both. Even if you don't really get enough in reward is just to win to put it simple. That is why you don't have all the items, you have to take what it works at the moment to progress but a the same time yo getting something that may put you in first place. Its different from the others games but it because it doesn't go as fart as not feeling like a zelda game.
    Great video, honestly 👌👏

    When i came across this video i was FLABBERGASTED at how much this game costs. I own a secondhand nintendo 3ds that had the game installed and it cost me MUCH less????? From my experience playing the game singleplayer mode in four swords has only two zeldas that you could switch between, wich was a bit annoying but you can still beat the game - and multiplayer mode where you connected everyones 3ds through wifi/bluetooth and had max 4 players. I hvent watched this video so the creator might have already talked ab it but if you want to play Four Swords for LESS than 600 dollars just get a 3DS and the games cartridge ♥

    I had this game back in the day. I played it with my friend from across the street, who had his own gba & link cable. I remember enjoying it, and have no memory at all of all the problems you seemed to have with it. The force gems didn't feel pointless to us, we were always excited to get them, as they provided a bit of competition, and a buffer against death, which did happen from time to time. There were even times when we got to the end of a level and didn't have enough, and we loved denying tingle from getting any, so again, we were always happy to get them. some levels, like village of the blue maiden (I think that's what it was called) was confusing, but we figured it out, and I always remember that level more than the others because we felt accomplished when we did finish it. Plus, by the end of this video, you kind of just seemed to slide into this cynicism about everything Nintendo does that I just dont agree with. Nintendo does shitty things sometimes, of course, but what company doesn't, honestly?

    I think going 2-player was a big hinderance to your experience. This game works best in singleplayer or 4-player, where you either have all of the Links at your control with extra buttons on the GameCube controller, or just one with the more limited GBA controller.
    I also think expecting the game to be fun/good hurt a bit too. I went into A Link to the Past expecting it to be as godlike as the internet touts it as, but was constantly frustrated.

    • @badmofaux
      @badmofaux 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I enjoyed 4 Swords quite a lot. Along the lines of what you were saying, I went in with zero expectations. I knew it wasn’t gonna be the 4 star Zelda experience but that’s about it. I found it to be fun and continually engaging. Also, it looked really cool I thought.
      Link to the Past is really a time and place thing for me. SNES was just delivering the goods. It was such a step up from the original Zelda titles and like he said in the video, realized the potential in a way nobody could really anticipate. And again, it just looked and sounded so cool.
      The one I never really liked is Ocarina of Time. I know that makes me a bit of a contrarian. For me it was kind of the opposite effect as LTTP. Instead of surpassing expectations, it dashed them in so many ways.

    I actually really enjoy this game. It’s not the best Zelda game, but not the worst either imo. I play single player on Wii using the wavebird controller. It’s definitely different, but I don’t think that makes it bad. I actually disliked the needlessly huge seas of Wind Waker a lot more than anything in this game.

  • @HumbleTeller
    @HumbleTeller 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Kinda a misguided take honestly. Yes, FSA is a coop game but it's competitive. That's its magic and mayhem. The game throws all the force gems at you because you're competing. Being greedy with your gems and sabotaging is the fun of it. Whereas in single player the fun is figuring out the puzzles with four links and collecting gems (kinda similar to collecting studs to get true Jedi in the Lego Star Wars games). It's a multiplayer Zelda similar to a competitive arcade game.

    I found this game to be quite fun. In my opinion this game is probably best played either in 1 player mode using the Gamecube controller option if you just want to experience the exploration, story and puzzle solve aspects of the game in the same vein you would a traditional 2D Zelda title or in 4 player mode if want to experience the more "Mario Party" like shenanigans of the game with friends.

    Halfway into the video and I have to say that all your points so far become mitigated the more you play the game. It's a great solo experience when you master the formations and movement. It's a literal skill issue lol. I will admit that one of the maps is frustrating by design to figure out without a map; but that's due to every level seeming like a giant puzzle. I've beaten the game almost 4 times. It's the most underrated Zelda game imo. The art style is also gorgeous, you're trippin xD. Play it single player and use the box formation to your advantage. Plus you split up the links to split up the work, and clear things faster. You want an item? leave main link at start of room, get the item with another link, swap and turn to formation. Now the other link hold the item and you didn't waste time. Only problem is you cant roll without the other links throwing the item. But the walk speed is generous enough.

The forest is designed to be confusing its kinda the point of this level even the. even that forest has like what 12 overworld screens maby 16.

    As to why the game was not very successful, it was not actually because it was cartoony, it was because it both received no marketting, and people were not sure whether they needed a GBA to play it.

    I loved Wind Waker as a kid (it's still a top 2 Zelda for me) and remember seeing this game in stores at one point shortly after it came out. Being a child, I thought it was a 3D sequel to Wind Waker and was extremely excited. My parents bought it for me, and my disappointment was immeasurable. Not only did I feel incredibly cheated when I found out it wasn't 3D (I swear there were pictures attached to the marketing that had actual 3D models) but it was even more disappointing to find out that I couldn't play multiplayer with my Dad, because we didn't have a Gameboy Advance. On top of that, the game just sucks. It left a really bad taste in my mouth in regard to 2D Zelda games, because the combat and platforming could be downright infuriating, especially because of how cluttered everything could get and how slow and clunky movement felt. On top of that, the game was confusing really often, and it did nothing to capture any of the feeling of progress or satisfaction that I came to expect from Zelda games. It basically threw out everything I liked about Zelda, and replaced it with something that felt incomplete and gimmicky, even to a child.

  • @PJCVita92
    @PJCVita92 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Imagine being a Zelda fan who's incapable of noticing the single player with the game cube controller in literally the most underrated Zelda game ever. That pretty much sums up this garbage take!
    Is this game really a bad multiplayer game? I mean, yeah, probably. But if you really don't like having to play on a GameBoy Advance or GBA SP, there's literally a single player mode that let's you play the game with better controls on a Gamecube controller! It's really not that hard to just select single player and play using a Gamecube controller. Now is it stupid with how the single player being better defeats the purpose of the game being a multiplayer Zelda? Yes, FSA probably really should've just been a single player 2D game from the start.
    However, just because the modes that were the whole point of game are bad, doesn't mean that the game itself overall is bad. FSA is still a great Zelda game if you're playing in single player mode. It's just a bad multiplayer game. However, not as bad as TriForce Heroes though.
    Seriously if you want to know what Zelda game is actually a bad game, that'd be TFH, not FSA! Though, I admit, TFH does have fun gameplay mechanics and is a fun game to play. However, it's the worst multiplayer and single player of the Zelda games because of how poorly handled both modes were. No voice chat for multiplayer, even though I loved the Link Emojis. And the Single Player mode is a chore because you can only control one Link at a time and the other two just stand there with stone faces, leaving you to do literally everything for each Link yourself. They don't follow you like in the Four Swords titles.
    That said, the fact that you call FSA a bad game is absurd when TFH exists and is worse than FSA because at least in FSA, you're able to have the other three Links follow you where ever you go. You don't need to do everything for them in FSA like you do in TFH!
    FSA is a great game that probably could've been a masterpiece had they not have even bothered with the multiplayer modes. Zelda just clearly wasn't ready for that kind of game to be multiplayer compatible yet. It was clearly initially made with single player in mind, but for some reason they wanted to still sell that multiplayer Zelda fad to kids is what I think probably ruined the game for people like you. Maybe if you had just played the single player mode with a gamecube controller, you probably wouldn't have this harsh of an opinion towards the game.
    So if it's anyone you should blame, it'd be Miyamoto since he's the reason why it's such a hot mess. The game was initially planned to be another attempt at a take on the Sealing War from ALttP. But Miyamoto decided he wanted this silly multiplayer compatible CT ALttP clone instead. Had they stuck with their original plan and not bother with multiplayer stuff, this game would've been truly spectacular!
    Don't spite a game for having bad gameplay based solely on the multiplayer modes when you haven't even played the game's single player function. The single player mode proves that the concept definitely had potential to be a much better game.

      It's funny you mention miyamoto, we originally planned a section talking about miyamoto and his influence on the game, but it was out of place and broke the pacing, so we decided ides to cut it.

      The only thing bad with the multiplayer is the set up. I don't see how it's bad at all

    So you say over 500$ just because you add all items together? That’s just dumb.
    The game’s main mode is single player, so you just pay for the console and the game.
    If you wish to play with other people then yes, but you know… people back in the day had their own GBA, people just met and played.
    I get the point of the video, but the “585$” is just clickbait

      Nah, the game was made specifically for four players. It's called FOUR Swords Adventures, the game was advertised as a multiplayer experience, the story was about the four Links. Single player mode was a concession to make the game more accessable.
