Bro... he was onw of the best player in tenis i seen. Technicaly was perfect. Here was close to his retire. Playing after surgerys. With 11 years in tour!! And still playing close to roger level in his best years. This is just aweome bro. To all the kids idiots about the weak era, put to play safin from 2000 with actual guys.... please.
people keep saying Rog is playing his best tennis ever, and I'm wondering if they watched Roger from 06-2010. His speed, defence, forehand, backhand slice... were untouchable. He's playing amazing now, but I don't think he's better than he was in his prime.
I think people are saying that mainly because he has been beating Rafa recently. But I think he has only made a tactical change against him. Had he made the change earlier on, he may have fared much better in their H2H.
Smite Stuff to be fair, the h2h is how it is mostly because in 2013 when Rog was recovering fro his back surgery he played Rafa 5/6 times and lost all of them. Rogers major problem against Rafa has been a mental one. Of course the backhand was an issue, but his overall game was always able to compensate. If he had played Rafa anytime in 2015 or 2016 he'd have beaten him.
Josh Fayemi His main problem against Rafa has been his defensive backhand. Roger was confident. Even at the WTF 2011, when he had lost to Rafa in the RG final earlier that year, he was still mentally capable of beating Rafa as much as any other player. I think 2009 was one of Roger's best years though. He was in every single major final that year and even beat his biggest rival on clay. Roger in 2017 is solid, but nowhere near as good as he used to be. Competition is just scarce nowadays.
Yeah, added a bit of extra drama to the tiebreak which wasn't included in my original video, so along with the quality enhancement I decided to slip in a few additional moments from the match. Hope you enjoyed the highlights!
Its a shame that Marat should play Roger so early here. 3rd round it was, Marat was in good shape then, if the draw was better to Marat he could get to semis at least
I disagree- (and I'm a Fed fan). His talent covered way more territory than just a powerful serve- footwork/court speed, brains/tactics, athletic ability, and shot making- (he had it all).
far from a footfault. and seriously, if you want to judge footfaults in tennis, make it like football that the majority of the foot needs to be ACROSS the line. what do a few millimeters count!? nothing.
Not a big fan of Safin, I always thought he was an asshole with that attitude of his. Safin gets called for foot-fault and he gets upset about it. Like bro.....YOU HAVE EYES WATCHING YOUR FEET, IT'S NOT LIKE THE LINEMEN CHEATED.........
Safin was not really a hard opponent for Federer. Federer had good luck. The Sampras era ended while new great Champions (Nadal, Djokovic) had been immature and miles away from her later Top Level. So Federer had free track for about 7-8 years. And only opponents like Safin, Rodick, James Blake, Ljubicic, Fernando Gonzalez and so on...
Lol this again? Nadal on grass and clay in 2006-2007 was better than he was after 2010. Djokovic in 2007 was not very far from the Djokovic we know now. And lol at the choice of opponents listed. It’s funny to see guys like Ljubicic being lumped in with Safin and Roddick. What about Hewitt? Nalbandian?
@@CK-iv1lq I named only a few opponents of the so called "weak era." Of course you can expand this list: Nalbandian Hewitt James Blake Nikolai Davidenko Marcos Bagdhadis JC Ferrero Philipoussis Robin Söderling Fernando Gonzalez Radek Stepanek Richard Gasquet Tomas Berdych Gael Monfils JW Tsonga David Ferrer.... And yes Rafa had a bad phase on grass after 2010 but last years half final against Novak has been extremely close and he could olso have won with a bit more good luck!
Nadal was still far from his best on grass. He was a step below 2007, 2008, and 2010. As for that list, some of those guys were Djokodal’s opponents more than Federer’s, such as Tsonga, Ferrer, and Berdych. But none of these opponents are as weak as the players Nadal and Djokovic (especially Djokovic) have to face: Dimitrov Nishikori Raonic Tomic Goffin Sock Isner Anderson Kyrgios Pouille Monfils Tsitsipas Medvedev Shapovalov Zverev Etc. But I don’t pay much attention to this list. Why? Because big names =/= form. For example, Roddick in Wimbledon 2003, 2004, and 2009 played better than Nadal in the Wimbledon 2011, better than Djokovic in USO 2007-2010, and definitely far better than Berdych, Tsonga, and Ferrer in their slam finals (in which they were taken out by Nadal or Djokovic). I agree, however, that Federer had a weak era from 2003-2006, but to call that a weak era and not call Djokovic’s 2014-present era or Nadal’s 2010 (and other slams where he received very favorable draws, especially in the US Open) season is hypocrisy at its absolute finest.
this era of Federer has the most talented and fun to watch players ever. if it weren't for the slowing of the courts and play, Nadal and Djoker wouldn't even get to 10 Slam each. Nadal would definitely not get a slam outside of clay. Just the fact that Nadal and Joker got to win Wimbledon with their boring defensive style is the death of Tennis.
Just passing through on my journey to watch every Federer match.
is not a lost journey
it's incredible how long safin continued to play despite his knee

Agassi and Safin..... my two favourites of all time. BEASTS!
13:03 that shot is unreal
Roger hits winners off his opponent's (apparent) winners- (no one else can do this on a regular basis).
The best quality of this match in youtube!!Very good selection of highlights also!!
9:04 what a volley. Wow! Then he does it again at 12:01. My goodness I miss Marat.
Marat had the best drop shots I've ever seen.
Federer was just unbeatable, thank you for this kind of god mode performance!!!
Hightlight of the match ,, the shot from fed to the boyball ... laser accuracy
Roger Murr yesss 🤩
Yesss🤩
A motivated safin could beat anyone anyday.
An unmotivated safin could lose to anyone anyday.
Federer. The king of turning desperation stretch shots into near winners.
He hits (his opponent's) "winners", for winners- (no one else can do this).
He is the best tennis player that i have ever seen

Not really 2006-10. His best years were, by far, from 2004 to 2007. He started to slow down (just a little bit) after the end of 2007
12:02 INSANE touch by Safin.
mishit xD
surely Federer could have gotten to that one
If Safin could control his temper, he would have been the Federer of tennis.
agree. He was the first in that gen who beat Sampras in final 2000 US OPen
Super talented player but very lazy, poor footwork
Safin great player but he doesn't have Fed's range of shots, half volleys or feel at the net.
@@g2tennis poor foot work? Lol he was way too fast for his build
@@oot007 Safin doesn't need those to win 😊 he has his own set of skills

Umpire should've stuck marat with a time violation while he was chirping at the linesman. We might've seen the world's first human supernova 🤣
Great stuff man ;) thx a ton!!

Lmao no
Yes, at least. Federer in his prime here, in next rounds wasted Berdych and Delpo like droping few gemes or none per set
Marat got screwed from the center court linesman's call- (foot fault). There were more than a few weird calls during this match.
Марат играл или гениально, или плохо. Федя играл или гениально, или хорошо. Вот и вся разница.
Roger's got the best back hand, and Marat had the best drop shot- (some of the best talent in the game).
Roger best back hand? Lmao what did you smoke 🤣. Forehand you meant to say?
Can you please upload the Nadal/Verdasco match and the Final?
