Davy was no slouch! Fit, prepared, disciplined, and mentally tough, he must have been devastated and stunned at how Roger found ways to win

I think all the top guys respected that Roger was the best and the man to beat at this particular time on grass and hard court. Rafa was the hardest problem Rog had to deal with back then..

For me this is the match that should be shown in the future to understand the dominance of Federer between 04-07. Davydenko playing best tennis ever but Federer, obviously, too (as he did in almost every match in that period).

wrong davydenko play his best tenis in 2008 and 2009 when he won miami masters against nadal and Master cup against del potro in 2009 final, and shangai masters 2009 beat djokovic and nadal in sf and final

Davydenko such a great ball striker , took ball early like Agassi. If he had been inch or 2 taller. 15 lbs heavier, would have been grand slam winner for sure. He was good enough to win 1 or 2. Played Nadal well, Alas Federer stopped him often

Oh yeah that so-called "weak era". This is Davydenko staying toe to toe with Federer in his prime. Don't buy into the Djokovic camp's mythology that any of these players were "weak". Davydenko is 6:5 over Nadal. Roddick is 5:4 over Djokovic. It's all about matchups.

  • @phamnhat2925

Both players going back and forth at high speed, taking the ball early with small margins for error - it's the kind of tennis that the audience likes, like motor racing. Not defensive baseline pushing that lulls everyone to sleep.

Davydenko is not Russian, he is a Ukrainian who, unfortunately, betrayed Ukraine and became Russian citizen back in late 90s. He is originally from Siverodonetsk- ironically, Russians have turned his city (including the tennis club where he learned to play) into ruins.
