Finally, someone who knows how to make a review which is understandable for everyone.
Renault did a great job on the new Megane, it looks great inside & out! They're on a bit of a roll, the Clio,Captur, Talisman, all look good.
I really like the new desing that Renault have with the clio, megane, talisman and espace. Massively improved over previous generations.

4control was used in the third generation of Laguna so it isn't a new feature in Renault cars (as you mentioned). Anyway, great car and fantastic test as always ;)

I have the GT, you messed up the launch control. It launches at 3-4k but never on max revs. You probably released the brake a bit, deactivating the throttle hold at 3k.
I did launch control in the wet and it’s much faster than the video. The TC does a good job.

I like it. I wish Renault came back to the U.S. market. The last one sold here was the Le Car in the 1980's. This Megane GT looks a little bit better than that one. :)
+Yippie The american market is blocked by the US government. Just look at what they did to Volkswagen. They did that to save american companies. They are protectionist. If Renault, Citroen or Peugeot enter in this market they take a great risk. But you can also buy a Bugatti if you want a french car. Not the same cost... lol ;)
Wasn't that the Renault 5? A bit too small for American tastes. I think the Talisman would do well in the US.
+Yippie Renault owns around 50% of Nissan. Both companies share platforms and technology, so in a sense Renault is present on the US market :)
SvetlioPrice That's the deal. Nissan and Renault sould not be competitors since Renault owns Nissan (they don't say it like that because it would annoy the japanese a bit, but it's a fact). Renault takes Europe/ Latin America/Middle east while Nissan takes North America and Asia. That's how Carlos Ghosn speaks about the strategy of the "group" (I should say legally alliance, but in fact it's more a group).
+Doney Hon If Fiat and Alfa Romero can find a way back into the U.S. market then I think much larger Renault-Nissan can do it too!

The engine really sounds sporty on high revs even for a small 1.6 ! I personally think that the car is good. The 4control AWD steering is something new to me and it does sound very interesting :)

May be it is my obsession or I need to be checked my eyes and I am not saying it is absolute truth but when I see new Megane's cockpit I suddenly realised it is higly look alike to Golf Mk3 cockpit layout. Of course without the lcd panel :)
Except this, I really love this car very much both exterior and interior. Unfortunately in my country Renault will sell this car in April 2016, so I have to wait for a couple months to see this car in dealer.

I got this car, and when you get use to the 4control strearing, every other car feels really heavy, when turning. 😁 Also it makes you turn less on the strearing wheel to make a sharp turn 😁 when i drive at the countryside, i usually drive alot faster than others, when we are going through alot of sharp turns, even though they drive alot faster than me on the straight roads 😅

This was my first time and a liked a lot, a lots of details were mentioned very completed test. You shuld mede the programe in Portugal, the weather is better for that kind of tests.

I must say I always disliked the look of Renaults, but the latest ones (like this one) are simply beautiful. As a Dutchman I of course have to remark that the head designer of Renault (Laurens van den Acker) is from the Netherlands! :-)
The interior seems to be quite nice as well. Especially the steering wheel in the GT looked perfect, very racy and thick.
The four wheel steering seems like a very interesting feature. An agile car with a small turning radius is so nice in daily use..

+Miran Iv Thanks! Same people would consider Megane GT and Golf GTI. You cannot say its NOT a competitor just because of 30 hp difference. Because Megane RS will then haven more hp than the GTI. So they wont build exactly same hp matching cars

I'm kind of psycho of car details and I would say that maybe there is one topic missing in your full reviews. It's about light technology and maybe you could spend 1 or 2 minutes talking about that. Is is HID light, LED and then what about the fog lights, are they LED. Are they directional ? etc... I think that light is an important point of safety (and better looking btw), my eyes are not perfect and I could never come back to Halogen light. Sorry maybe I'm asking too much.
Anyway, thanks a lot again for all your so great reviews and keep up, because I'm kind of addicted to your review.
For the Renault, I'm usually not into french car, but they really made a great job with this Megane !

you think this engine is gonna be good enough for this car to preserve the sporty attitude? They are a bit slow on bringing in new models here, but since they recently brought Clio RS and Kadjar top trims, there is hope..
160 hp Diesel should be enough for that weigth
Another great review Thomas. On my Z4, my flappy paddles move with the steering wheel whereas I notice in this Megan, they are fixed and dont move with the steering. Did you find this awkward or difficult changing gear going around bends with fixed paddles?
the fixed ones are annoying imho
I can really tell Thomas is a VAG lover, I will say that you have to be more open mided to cars that are not German. The rest great videos exept that tecno music with those camera shakes it doesn't match at all with the rest of the relaxing and well done videos that you guys do.

Great review! So much better design than the new Astra which looks so boring compared with this Megane.
Also it seems they finally finished the model as it should. Good materials, good seats and good multimedia.
I prefer my Giulietta, but this Megane would be my second choice in the segment.
oh btw Thomas, the Laguna also had 4 wheel steering. ;)

The reviews are great on this Channel, one of the best even especially the great English spoken but, and I know it's down to personal opinion but I think you should be more open to real leather as it does have many benefits and faux leather isn't always as nice to having in an expensive car nor is the quality ever going to be as good. Great videos though guys :)

Nice exterior design. But the center console and the dashboard are not very attractive. Pls add more space to the rear seat.

Sad that they dont offer one more variant between 1.2 TCe and this GT version (detuned 1.6T +- 115 kW with manual?), they really dont match their rivals in that. I would prefer that for estate version.

nice light units, good job renault !, however i noticed that the real exhaust pipes are not perfectly round, they look bumped an also rugged. you don't see them in real life but you would expect them to be at least round and smooth no? or is it only on video so, and not in reality?

Pitty you didn't try the astra with the 1.6CDTI diesel engine.
After watching the review I must say I really liked this car styling a lot more than the Astra.
+Darkhoof Well this was the sports version now so cannot directly compare it in driving to the Astra, but overall it seems that both cars are on a quite equal level. The Astra has more space on the inside, especially on the rear, the quality level seems quite the same, maybe even a little bit better for the Renault. The GT version with those seats was really pleasing and with the all wheel steering. Overall I find the new Megane the more exciting car.
I have to agree with you. And I thought I would never think this about a Renaul since they never did cars that I found interesting. But this new Mégane, the Talisman and the Kadjar are looking really atractive. And I really like their infotainment system from your demonstrations.
They should have had the Espace central console in this.

Hi and thanks for the balanced review. The Megane GT 2016 has just arrived here in Australia, ... we drove it a couple of times, liked it and placed an order, ... should be in the stable within two weeks. We are stepping across from a BMW 530i so it will be interesting to see what it's like long term.
Having said that, we wouldn't have another BMW, ... had two 5 series and both suffered from multiple component failures. Japanese built cars don't seem to have this problem. I think they are too smart but not reliable in the long term.

That's all very nice in high trim levels...but what about 'poor man version'? I presume we won't have big central touch screen in those?

Sehr gutes und ausführliches review. Sehr sympathischer Moderator! Hätte noch eine Frage wegen der Sitze: Ich bin selbst 191 cm groß und bin den Megane schon mit den normalo Sitzen gefahren. Ich muss jetzt warten, was mein örtlicher Händler für Tageszulassungen reinkriegt, könnt enatürlich auch sein, dass da ein verlockendes GT Version Angebot dabei ist. Denkt ihr, dass man mit meiner ´Grösse (bin nicht gerade zierlich, aber nicht dick sondern eher massiv) in den Sportsitzen auch so gut Platz hat wie in normalen auf längeren Strecken?

Very beautiful car especially from the rear. However, watch carefully for engine torque. It tops 280Nm @2400RPM (206 lb-ft @2400RPM). Compare this to 258 lb-ft @1600RPM (350Nm @1600) for the GTI 2.0TSI. Definitely, the GTI wins here!

Hi Thomas, as a car seller I hate when you touch the paint all the time, thats not really pleasent, otherwise good review..and I d say you shouldnt be judging space for legs that often as most customers and drivers are max 180 cm tall

der sieht ja schon ganz geil aus, aber im Gegensatz zum Vorgänger, sieht das nicht mehr so sportlich aus.
Oder kommt da noch die Grandtour Ausführung, und sieht die dann etwas mehr nach den alten Konzept aus, ist da schon was bekannt?

Strange how it can share the platform with the Nissan Pulsar and yet have poor rear space. The Pulsar is massive in the back.
