Like you, I watched every video I could find regarding DIY stitching ponies. Yours is the best one and I'm going to use yours as a guide. Thanks for a great job. Well done!
Add a maganet on each side to hold the needles when adjusting the leather. I like the end results. you did a good job. Good luck with your leather work. Remember, Practice, Practice, Practice,,,,
Really well crafted and good looking just as a piece of high end wood working. The one issue with ponies that have large knobs on the side, however, is that your thread loop sometimes gets snagged on the knobs while you're stitching. If they could be made tapered and flush (or slightly inset) knobs to avoid this, it would be perfection.
Hey Steve, great video, and stitching pony. Have you ever thought about making your videos without music? I think "maker" videos are best when we get to hear the sound of the tools and the making process. Anyways, great job! 👏
I have been looking for a good video on making a stitching pony and your design is brilliant. When I saw you fold this closed I actually gasped. I don't suppose there's any chance of a plan for this us there?
Hi and thanks for watching I’m sorry but I don’t have any plans but in the description of my video I mention a channel called learning to make stuff I used his plans as an inspiration for mine there is a link to that video in the description of mine his plans are free to download hope that helps
@@SteveBellCreates Where did you get those tools you use on the table saw, what you used to cut those 45% angels for the stitching pony and the other tool. If you made it could you make a video on it please.
Nice one Steve! Looks wicked 👊🏻 I’d never heard of a stitching pony until now, you learn something new every day. Great video dude, keep them coming ☺️
@@SteveBellCreates the question is are you? 😂😂 What is your accent? I have a theory about decent humour and region!! I am learning woodwork myself this past 18 months but want to start leather work and some metal work eventually! That’s how I came across your video.
Hi Amanda I’m from the North East of England I’m glad your into woodworking if you have an instagram account let me know and I’ll have a look. And of course I’m into leather 😂
@@SteveBellCreates I knew it! Northerner’s have the best sense of humour (and of course you should be into leather, warms your bones or so I hear 😂). Do you have an Instagram account? Looking forward to more of your videos.
Hi Amanda yes I’m on instagram @stevebellcreates and I have a podcast with me and a guy from Sweden called Three Northern Makers on all good podcast platforms you get a very nice mention in episode 67 due out next Sunday. TH-cam tips be yourself and plan your videos thanks once again for watching btw where are you from ?
Hello, very nice indeed ! Is the large hole angled at 11:54 ? It always amazed by people drilling perfectly straight like that... I would never dare, unless I have at least 50 wood pieces left... maybe I should give it a try, my drill press is wobbling too much now, useless.
Thanks for you nice comments the hole is elongated by hand with the drill so the arm of the pony can open wider since the bolt goes through this hole. I hope I’ve explained that clearly as I’m not sure I have !
@@SteveBellCreates I saw that it was elongated but I thought it was also at a slight angle... I don't understand how the handle can stay perfectly straight to the jaw. Or maybe the nut on the opposite is rotating a little bit...
@@SteveBellCreates Can you give me an advice? I need to fit a M6 threaded insert inside the edge of two pieces of beech plywood glued together ( 15+15mm ). My threaded insert outer diameter is is 10mm, I drilled a 9mm hole. I'm hesitating, my threaded inserts seem cheap ( they have no dent on the outer thread ), beech plywood is hard... and I only have one try... do you think I should enlarge the hole if I don't want the plywood to break or it's ok ? Thanks
@@Stavroguine826 hi have you any scrap plywood to try it in first ? If not can you put a clamp over the two pieces where the insert is going to help avoid breakout also if it’s a tight fit and difficult to screw in add a little bit soap to the threads of your. Insert but just take it nice and slow good luck
Great job! But I hate you... I'm jealous. Your tools and shop area are undoubtedly the envy of everyone who watches this video. I couldn't concentrate on what you were doing. I spent the entire video looking at the tools!!! I also picked up on your opening statement... "My wife is getting into leather...". Good one 👍 Thanks for sharing.
Hi there, Can you share the plans? I can send you an email! That’s an awesome stitching pony!!❤ I do leather work as a hubby but would like to make the one you have. Great job! Thanks!

A great job done with superior craftsmanship and your efforts are appreciated. For a better instructional ii may be a good idea to rethink the background music. Sure it's a matter of taste but you could do better. Just saying.

Thank you for your video, this way is more expensive than buying a pony. ❤
Outstanding video.
Really like the contrast between the dark wood and light leather.
Thanks so much I’m so glad you enjoyed it
Great video Steve! The stitching pony came out great. I was just a bum and used my CNC when I made my wife a stitching pony.
Thanks Jason glad you liked it. I really enjoyed making the stitching pony and the video, my wife gets so much use out of it.

Thanks so much and I’ll slowly get better making the videos I hope 😂
Brilliant job Steve, I hope your wife has many happy years using it. 👍
Thanks very much let’s hope she does
Very nice. I was surprised that with all the sophisticated equipmment, you did not use a dado and you used a hack saw to cut wood.
Thanks very much but No dado cutters allowed in the uk sorry.
I used the hacksaw to cut the metal pin not the wood
I love how that folds up.
Thanks Andy yeh it folds up nicely
love your work ...
Thanks so much Darin

Really well executed! both the build and the video. Great Job Steve.
Thanks so much Dave you are too kind
🙏Hello 👍Very good 💯Steve bet your wife loves it👌
Thank you so much and yes she uses it all the time
Very nice

A small modification you might want to do is to put two small magnets on both sides of the clamp so they can hold any needles currently in use.
Thanks great idea
