    I’m a 70 year old male who before this year never watch a WNBA game, but Caitlin Clark changed that. I’ve watched all of her games, including her 30 point performance in front of a 20,300 fans and what’s impressed me as much as her game and the attendance figure was when the camera panned the crowd and seeing how many young girls wearing her jersey. Thank you Christine Brennen for your outstanding reporting. You represent the best of your profession.

      Well, just like in the early 2000s, when Anna Kournikova was getting undue and disproportionate amounts of media coverage compared to her more accomplished peers, and how in the last year or two, Olivia Dunne, the gymnast at LSU, received awkward levels of praise from (mostly male) fans, howling in the fans, far and above her team mates.. maybe this is what the Olympic team organizers wanted to avoid. This way the established stars of the W can be fairly showcased, without it turning to a Caitlin Showcase by media. There are other WNBA stars not on the Olympic roster, like Arike Ogumbawale, a league leading scorer, and other rookies like Angel and Cameron who are also having solid first seasons..That;s what i think - CC on board may have turned the interivews and coverage into each reporter asking "Hi, my question is for Caitlin Clark", and to protect and enhance the visibilty of the established stars of League.
      Caitlin and the other rookies will get their chances in 4 years.

      Caitlin's numbers are better then Taurasi's and she's getting blitzed more than any other player AND every combined team stats. Nobody and no team as a whole is gettingdefended like she is. They guard her the entire length of the court whether or not she has the ball. Her own TEAMMATES are freezing her out, not getting her the ball back after she passes off to them. They set sh*t screens and cannot handle her passes. This is also a fault of her coach; Sides sux. About the only stat she has any real control over is her rebounding.
      It's ridiculous to say that she isn't ready or not strong enough or or not good enough. Too many people saying this ish are too busy protecting too many people's reputations and legacies instead of trying to GROW THE LEAGUE. Pick up gun, point at foot, shoot.

    Christine Brennan it’s just exactly right. I’ve never watched the WNBA before and I bought tickets for three games this year Dallas wings versus Indiana fever all of them in Indiana comes to town. I’m gonna watch Kaitlyn Clark and I went to her first preseason game and was blown away by how far she actually shoots TV doesn’t really show it something about the camera angles that you can see in the stadium. I would agree her stats are really good considering the fact that she’s double and triple teamed all the time on the court I’d like to see Diana Tarazi or one of the other guards, have the same stats as her if they were being defended the same way finally and I also agree that they’re throwing away viewership and they’re throwing away ice that would be on the WNBA. I’m a basketball coach and you know what I won’t be watching any of the WNBA games for the simple reason that Kalin Clark plays a different kind of game and there’s a level of excitement there and when I’ve tried to watch the other games outside of watching Cameron Brink it’s just not there. You’re waiting for that logo. You’re waiting for that. Kaitlyn Clark makes and the other players don’t play that way so it’s not very fun to watch. They’re just not that good so it’s a huge mistake that she’s not on the Olympic team, eyes ticket sales jersey sales would’ve been through the roof and at this point who knows if NBC will even cover those games very much I wouldn’t if I were them I’d be pissed and I’m not gonna watch women’s basketball. I’ll watch the men’s games. it’s a huge missed opportunity.

    One key item in USA Basketball’s mission statement is “Its mission is to promote, grow, and elevate the game of basketball.” Women’s basketball is at a critical moment in time with its best and most popular female ambassador they have ever had. Dream team took Bird and Magic who were essentially retired and not top 12 to the Olympics because they didn’t need them to win games and their inclusion would popularize the sport immensely. And that’s why the men never had to beg for viewers or complain about being under compensated.

    Brennan's obviously a first division journalist with a lot of experience. But I'd like to add that as well as the stats proving how good CC22 is, her style of play is theatrical - not needlessly theatrical, it just is. It takes your breath away watching her drop 3s from 30 feet, propel the ball into the hands of a teammate at the other end of the court who's running full tilt, drive through a thicket of 6' 5" defenders and get the layup anyway.
    After seeing that someone said that, a propos of CC22, they would be fools if the team left the USA without her, I booked a ticket to see an exhibition match with Belgium in London. I figured, OK, even if CC22 isn't in the team, at least I'll see a good game of basketball. But I cannot convince myself that Taurasi and her sewing circle have not stuck their fingers in this pie, and I don't want to watch them at all. Maybe Kelsey Plum. So I'm thinking of selling the ticket. (Of course, without CC22 no-one will want it...) Or maybe I'll go wearing a CC22 Fever jersey.

    Christine Brennan is simply the best sports columnist - man or woman- writing today. Her take on the Caitlin Clark/Olympic snub is, as usual, right on the money. The only thing missing is a comparison of Caitlin to the guards they selected on the team and what Caitlin brings to the team game that they do not. Her long distance shooting prowess draws out the defense, opening up the middle for the bigs. Her court vision and willingness to pass the ball are second to none. If you are her teammate and you get open, she'll get you the ball. And she played huge minutes while in college. Compare those current skills against Taurusi's current (not past) skills, and the decision to select her over Clark is simply nonsensical. The US team will win gold because it has Breana Stewart, Brittany Griner, A'ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, and Sabrina Ionescu. All the rest of the players are quite frankly fungible. Having Caitlin Clark take the place of any of the guards except Plum and Ionescu would so clearly not hurt the team one iota.

    This take is 100% accurate. 100%. I’ve been a fan for 20 years and I’m sick about this ludicrous move. Ludicrous. That said, two things. She’s the most defended because she’s basically the only real threat on the Fever with all due respect to Boston. And in terms of stats, she’s leading the league in turnovers, her shooting percentage is very low, and she’s really struggling defensively. That said, Clark not being on this team is asinine. Ridiculous. Absurd.

      Statistically, if she is the most defended player, wouldn't that also account for the turnovers and shooting percentage? If players with better numbers were defended like she is, maybe they'd have similar turnovers. Just a thought, since I know a thing or two about basketball. Even with that, she has better numbers than some players they did select.

    • @914Rocky
      @914Rocky 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Jarro21 I agree with that. The Fever have basically no other weapons of concern. Even with all the attention Clark is getting, Boston isn’t doing much offensively. And Clark is getting 90 feet of on the ball pressure and double and triple teams. Regardless, as purely a marketing and league development matter, they had to include her on the team. USA basketball’s mission includes growing the game. The only solution is Diana Taurasi stepping aside for Clark. That would improve Taurasi’s image and give USA Basketball cover. Of course, I wouldn’t be surprised if USA Basketball put Arike or Ariel Atkins in her place. Taurasi is being super selfish. She has 5 gold medals already.

    • @Jarro21
      @Jarro21 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @914Rocky You are spot on. It's unfortunate to see all these years women and men have been trying to grow the sport and through the hard work of one individual they have a golden egg fall in their laps and they are I'll prepared for the moment. Rising tide raises all boats, but for some reason the women don't understand this to the detriment of the wnba and women's bball in general. With all the debates about lowering rim and other things to make the game interesting, they have Caitlyn fall in their laps and are squandering a great opportunity. The men understand the value of marketing the stars and have long benefited and the blueprint is there for the taking but pettiness and jealousy gets in the way of their own progress. This should be a study on human self sabotage.

Maybe, this player was really good in special way but if the increase was dramatic... Nigerians could not claim a measure of racism did not affect their new found interest. This is no different. Reporters justifying racial viewing with pay disparity. Grow the league even if the fans are increasing because of racial politics. White singers covered black singers during the 50-60's... was that ok?! Was that a good thing? Stay out of it let Tesla and Apple market racism... Brennan can makes excuses for sexist colleagues.
