"the ratings will be through the roof" Rich... what are you smoking brother? They haven't had "through the roof" ratings until CC showed up. Without her, very few will pay any attention. This reminds me of the US women in the last soccer World Cup, we may actually see US fans cheering against the USWBB team. This is a massive bonehead move. They included a player who hasn't played a game this year over CC. Petty, jealous women will destroy themselves over their own best interest.

      A. She never said that. B. She has no say in who makes the team. The roster is chosen by a six-member committee consisting of four college coaches, a WNBA team president, and the WNBA director of basketball operations. One of the coaches is Dawn Staley. Are you suggesting that Dawn Staley doesn't know how to put together a championship team?

@@furious_styles8872 OMG. You are clearly JEALOUS of Clark who is UNDENIABLY THE GREATEST ALL AROUND PLAYER in the history of women's college basketball. Taurasi did NOT win championships. The TEAM that she happened to be on won the championships. It's pathetic for Taurasi to conflate her individual performance with her TEAM'S performance. Clark PERFORMED MUCH MUCH BETTER than Taurasi on an individual basis during their team's tournament games. Clark set individual RECORDS whereas Taurasi did NOT. FYI. This season, Clark has better stats than Taurasi and therefore is more deserving to be on the Olympic team.

Welcome to "Mean Girls: The WNBA Edition." 🙄 We can sit and debate all day whether or not putting Caitlin on the team increases or decreases the chances for U.S.A. to win gold. They've got the last seven in a row. So, if you're telling me that adding Caitlin to the roster somehow jeopardizes the chance for number eight, straight cap. I don't want to hear another women talking about the wage gap. I don't want to hear another woman talking about the patriarchy holding women down. I especially don't want to hear another WNBA player bitching and moaning about their salaries compared to NBA players. The WNBA has yet to make money in their 28-year existence. For better or worse, Caitlin puts people in seats, which is exactly what the league needs to become profitable. Leaving her off the Olympic team roster tells me everything I need to know about U.S. women's basketball. Watch...Chelsea Gray is going to have to drop out and Caitlin will be a last-minute inclusion, because the backlash is going to be more than they expected.

@@andref9663Not true. Every Olympic basketball or Futbol (Soccer) team often includes players that aren’t in the top 12 or 20 athletes of that year. Other considerations might include experience, toughness, chemistry, familiarity with an offensive system, leadership, grooming young player for future international contests or popularity. Larry Bird retired the year he was on the 1992 Dream Team and had an injured back, Magic wasn’t playing in the NBA in 1992, but along with Michael Jordan they were the most popular players in the world.
Men’s teams are usually not a collection of the absolute best individuals but rather a collection of individuals that serve a team purpose. Caitlin’s purpose could be Assists, 3-pt shooting and of course attention the women’s basketball team has never had before.

Ha, I had the same thought. The only reason the ratings might be higher this time around is to see how the team does, without CC. Otherwise, my guess is the viewership will be way down, and the other typical viewership draws will get the ratings. I only know of half the names on the team because I started watching WNBA for first time this season... due to CC. Regardless, I think her stats earn her a spot as a guard. Diana Taurasi's stats are worse than CC's... though impressive as they may be for her age, and she is a legend in WNBA.

You do realize she played 4 years in college. Post CoVid, so no 5th year at Iowa for her, she had to go to the league.
She should’ve made the National team because she scores slightly more than 1 or 2 women who made the team, not because she’s the face of the league.
However, her team is 3-10 and she only scored 10pts tonight. Let’s give her time to develop before putting even more pressure on her. Adding her to the team might cause more people hate her for getting the same treatment Danica Patrick received when she went to NASCAR.
Ironically, this just creates more positive buzz for Caitlyn than if she made the team. Now more people are starting to support and defend her.

Saying someone has a right to it just because is just pandering she is taking the spot of a younger player to get experience for the next team. What happens if all the old heads are gone and now the experience is too. They have a player on the team that is still on the injured list and hasn't played a game all year!!!!! Taurasi was a rookie when she played in her first Olympics yet now we are saying CC is ready yet the stats from Taurasi's first 12 games as a rookie and CC's are pretty damn similar. There is a huge opportunity for the W and it's going up in smoke. The team is so loaded that it's a forgone conclusion they will get the gold and you know who will care, a handful of people because NOBODY watches the women's basketball games hell people barely watch the men's games. I am tired of the media taking article headline takes about this instead of really diving into it, hell just by what people are saying there are a bunch of women in the W that should be going over Taurasi and Gray both!

It is the same construct. Have you done any research on this? Taurasi was on the team as a young player. There is a tradition of including a young player. Stewart was also included as a rookie. Is CC the best player? No. Not yet anyway. Will this particular viewer probably not watch the Olympics now? Probably won't watch. And if I do, it's because I actually now know 8 of those 12 players from when they played Caitlin Clark. Huge missed opportunity to promote women's basketball around the globe. Would they lose the gold because CC was on the team? Are you f*ckin' kidding me? They will dominate.

So she's never practiced with those players on the Olympic team. Another thing to consider in 5 months, the beginning in March and into late July when the Olympics start. She finished she season at Iowa, won the Big 10 tourney, went to the natty (April 7th), drafted April 15th. WNBA season began a month later. She then plays 2+ months of WNBA games and then goes to Paris with players she's never played with. Yes, I believe she got snubbed, but I understand why she didn't make it. That's an insane 5 months and she got unlucky for winning. So why is she being critiqued? When she did everything she could.

The main problem is how USA Basketball has managed the whole thing. 1) final tryouts are during the NCAA final 4, 2) they say Clark's tryout would be the first few weeks of the WNBA season, and her stats are better than some who made the team, and 3) the current excuse of how will her fans react if she get limited playing time is ridiculous, and has nothing to do with CC.
You are wrong about Taurasi being owed one more turn. By that logic, MJ, Bird and Magic could be on this years team if they just asked. You get on the team by what you are doing now, not in the past. Look at how things worked out for the USA in the Women's World Cup.
Do some research on the Dream Team. There were no restrictions on pros playing.
And the bottom line is without CC, nobody would be paying attention to women's basketball at the Olympics, much less the WNBA, which wouldn't exist if it wasn't bankrolled by the NBA.

Why you guys keep purposely hiding the fact CC played 56 more college games than Maravich in order to become the leading scorer???

Let's not forget.. CC is having her ups and downs ... while her mere presence on the court reconstructs the WNBA. She does so with grace playing for a terrible team that shoots about 30% from the floor. Can you just imagine how she would play surrounded by an all-star roster for all the world to see?

There’s no way every one of those players is better than CC.. it’s pretty clearly not the case for several of them, not to mention one is still injured. Best team on the court should still include her, so there’s no valid argument.

Caitlin's stats this year are better than Chelsey Gray's....LOL!!!!

It is also sad to hear people say, "she has plenty of time to make the team in the future"....Are you a fortune teller? Injuries in and outside the sport ends the dreams of many. You never know what can happen and tomorrow is never guaranteed.

@@mc76 Exactly! And there is no timetable for her return to playing which means she will more than likely be in street clothes the entire Olympics, filling a spot that CC could of filled.

Caitlin Clark SHOULD BE THE one to carry the USA flag. Her fans will lose their minds.

Honestly, would it be so bad if NBA demanded the WNBA change management, piss off a few players and coaches none of us ever heard about, have them quit, then truly grow this league?

Caitlin Clark deserves placement on the USA Olympc team for her talent as well as her unprecedented popularity. Caitlin Clark deserves to join Diana Taurasi (2004), Candace Parker (2008) & Breanna Stewart (2016) who were WNBA top draft picks selected for the USA Women's Olympic Team. Caitlin is the WNBA Rookie of the Month who reached 200 PTS, 75 AST & 60 REB faster than any player in history. Caitlin achieved this while being defended more closely than any other player and being blitzed more than any team. The idea that Caitlin Clark has not earned a selection on the Olympic team lacks a holistic view of precedent, achievements and popularity. It robs millions of fans, other team members and women's basketball players and teams worldwide.

Per game she's 14th in scoring, 4th in assists, 24th in rebounds, 17th in blocks, 18th in steals, and 19th in efficiency. That's out of 144 players in the league, you decide if her numbers are good enough.

And a top 3 pt shooter - it is obvious she belongs. Taurasi should be out. Griner should have been left in Russia.

Chicago Sky still sold out against Washington, but for some reason they capped tickets at 10,000 for that game
