After watching a few of your videos, I believe a lot of people on TH-cam that think they are the experts with their tutorials and expensive camera gear, could learn a lot from you. This is how you do it. Very well done!!
Thanks so much my man! It’s all about working with what you have. If you don’t have the budget for a new camera and lens, I’d always say stick with what you have and get a decent light because it always improves the shot compared to having a great camera and lens with bad lighting. And luckily that app is free so hell yeah. Thanks DaVinci!
I'm very glad to hear that. I think now adays phone cameras are fairly useable. Obviously it'll never be as good as an actual camera, but it's a great place to start and see if it's something worth pursuing and investing into
Suppper helpful video. gonna share this to fellow iphone video makers. I tried it myself after you recommended it last time and the results were instant. The controls are unreal
Thank you so much. I figured I’d try to put camera terms in a musical setting to make it the easiest to understand. As well as my other playthrough videos. Thank you!
Man, i'm curently doing my first steps in sharing my guitar playthrough, you just saved me so much effort, time, and bad videos ! Thank you so much, really appriciate it !
If you’re on a budget YCImaging has a video where he made a DIY soft box with pretty decent results : th-cam.com/video/HN00nlDU3HU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3iDh0ilYlotqlO6s Otherwise I’d suggest an Amaran 60x, 100x, or 200x depending on your budget Or the Godox SL60 is a classic more budget version of that
Brendon your first video I watched how you presented OTTO plugin (and I also bought it thanks to your video) great work, second I watched how you presented your Squier guitar VS 6 (again it inspired me and I bought a similar guitar) and now this. .. all your videos are great and incredibly inspiring and informative, I have owned an iPhone for many years but I never thought of using this, thank you so much and I look forward to seeing more of your videos and the music you make...
Hey I greatly appreciate that! I received a lot of interest on how to film a playthrough on the phone. Luckily in December Blackmagic released the app which is amazing so I had to include that
This app has been a great one to check out for a while now, definitely good advice my guy. 🙌🏻 Just learning the settings and applying camera rules to it like you taught makes it such a step up. People have always been blown away if I show them what their phone can be capable of. 😂
Absolutely. It’s scary what phone cameras can do now. Especially the 15 with LOG. It’s insane lmao. One of the colonists I watch compared it to Alexa footage and it’s scary how close it is lmao. Especially if you have those moment lenses like the anamorphic to add vibe. So insane
Always a pleasure to watch. I wish you could shoot a video detailing how you set up your mixing/mastering template, including routing and other techniques 🙏
Dude, it's amazing. Be able to chose where you focus is and literally choose anything you want is unbeatable. And resolve being free. It's insane lol. Thanks for checking it out my man!
I wanna buy a camera to record guitar videos again but I still havent decided if I should buy a camera or invest on an Iphone because I will need to switch phones anyway sooner or later. Thanks for the vid
No problem! I have a video coming out very shortly on the Lumix S9 and why I think it’s amazing for musicians and “content creators” so stay tuned for that
@@BrendonKPadjasek I’m so new to it all I couldn’t give you a worthwhile opinion yet. I need to try the logic one, seems more user friendly for people like me. Just quickly, I’d like to get a dedicated camera rather than use my iPhone 15, ideally something user friendly and that I can frame myself with. Zoom/stream ability would be even more useful due to my job. Do you have any recommendations ?? Thanks
@@BrendonKPadjasek Always a difficult one.....let's say $500 - $1000ish?? Its would support my job so as long as its not crazy id wait till I had more if it reaped a lot more reward.....
Ever since the blackmagic app I don’t. But I’ve actually been using it in some productions. I recorded a live off the floor for an artist and used my phone as a 3rd angle and it surprisingly worked really well. It’s just overly sharp but you can blur it in post to make it look a bit more real
First of all, thank you so much for all your useful content! Second, I'm using an iPhone 15 Pro Max which allows me to shoot in log format, but I'm a little confused because I'm definitely not a pro when it comes to video stuff. In the Blackmagic App I can choose to shot in ProRes, after that I choose the Color Space where I can select Apple Log. Now to edit my footage, I read that I might need a conversion LUT, right? And after adding the conversion LUT to my editing Software (FCP), I can then choose another LUT, which is made for Rec709. But I'm super confused because I can already choose Rec709 in the Blackmagic App instead of Apple Log. Now I really don't know the correct way to process everything...
First, thank you for the kind words. Second I believe the conversion lut will bring it from Log to Rec709 and then you would do you edits from there. It’s tough to say because in Resolve I do my conversion kit after all my edits but I don’t know if you have the capability to do so in FCP. I’ve only used it once haha If you have Log, I’d say 100% use it. It’s so worth it. I wish the 13 had it
IMO Lumix is killing it. I think the Lumix s5ii /s5iix is best bang for buck and the lens ecosystem is more affordable than others. Sonys autofocus is better but it’s so much more expansive for the cameras and lenses. And the autofocus on the Lumix just got a firmware upgrade and it rocks What’s your budget ?
For some reason both of the video editing apps I tried (DaVinci Resolve and InShot) both distort the quality of the videos specifically the strings of my guitar. It looks perfectly fine in Blackmagic, and my camera roll, and in Dropbox, but as soon as I bring it to an editing app it looks bad. Any suggestions?
hmm, I'd need to know more info. Bad in which way and which settings do you have set in the blackmagic app? Also you may have proxies/ low res enabled in resolve?
If looking to film vertical for Social Media, go Settings - Camera - "Enable Vertical Video"
I actually didn’t go over that. My bad. In the menu system there’s an option for “enable vertical video”
@TheAulGuitarist thank you for pointing that out haha. I always shoot wide screen and crop it later for social media
