    About Kirby:
Kirby Pábalan-Táyag Aráullo is a renowned Filipino Culture Bearer and currently the National Coordinator for Culture and Heritage for NAFCON (National Alliance for Filipino Concerns). He is a Dátû and Lakan by blood, a direct descendant of the last indigenous Paramount Kings of Luzon (of both Lakandúlâ of Tondo and Rája Matandá of Maynílâ), and of the anti-colonial revolutionary Katipuneros who fought for the liberation of the Philippines from colonialism. Kirby's upbringing exposed him to the contradicting worlds of traditional politics and grassroots activism.
With a keen interest in varying fields (such as history, culture, government, and human rights) and a strong commitment to serve the community, Kirby studied in some of the world’s most prestigious universities, such as Harvard, UC Davis, and Université catholique de Louvain. Kirby is also the Co-Founder of the Bulosan Center for Filipino Studies and author of the book “Black Lives & Brown Freedom: Untold Histories of War, Solidarity, & Genocide.” He is a visiting professor at various colleges in the Philippines and a research fellow with Sínúpan Singsing, an institute for indigenous advocacy and the study of Kapampángan language, history, and culture.
Dátû Kirby is an educator who is well-rooted in his culture and passionate about his heritage; he strives to decolonize Philippine history and democratize Ethnic Studies through knowledge and play.

Very good video. it really focused on very little known topics. overall very good and informative, keep up the good work.
the death of the gomburza really did a lot for the political and religious systems of the philippines and also their death sparked something that filipinos don't really think about, the philippine reformation. the gomburza were priests that wanted to address the corruption of the church, the use of religion in the philippines to control people (when Jesus died for setting people free) and the racist, unequal treatment of filipino priests. and with their death it put more focus on these problems in the filipino clergy, and caused them to ask the pope to change these practices but was sadly quashed by european sense of superiority. due to the unfulfilled desire to change this, the some catholic clergy left the catholic church and made their own church (just like the church of england), a schism of sorts or a reformation depending on which side you look at it. it became a bastion of the first government's parliament and was very popular in the capital region of the time and luzon, some islands of visayas and some parts also of northern region of mindanao. many famous people were part of that church Emilio Aguinaldo being one.
the Aglipay church/Aglipayan church/Iglesia Filipina Independiente/IFI at the start was more addressing, in terms of theology, followed that of the Catholic theology with influence from the Anglican Communion particularly the "Book of Common Prayers" which is an integral part of the Anglican Church. another huge influence in theology, particularly in symbolism and concepts, is free masonry. they still believed transubstantiation following the catholic eucharist style they did their mass in a reformed latin tridentine liturgy, adopting the vernacular instead of spanish or latin, but they still kept the spanish language mass too. modeling it also to the Anglican Book of Prayer. they abandoned clerical celibacy, allowing their priests to marry. as well as allowing women to become priests. being free mason and nationalistic, in the sense of change they want to see in the filipino society, they sing the national anthem in service as well as nationalistic symbols and also showing the national flag in the church. they also reject the exclusivity of the apostolic succession by the papacy. when they started, the church followed trinitarian beliefs like most sects and denominations but over time the leader and founder became more and more unitarian, or someone who believes that there is only one person in Godhood and that though Jesus is a savior he was not God or God incarnate but was only inspired by God's moral teaching, it isolated a lot of people that still followed trinitarianism and caused ultimately for the movement to not spread and cause wide spread factionalism and doctrinal conflicts. the two main factions were the trinitarians and the unitarians, ultimately the unitarians left the faction or got integrated into another church (the philippine unitarian church), the trinitarians being the majority reinstated the traditional liturgy and theology before the unitarian ideas when into it. and also joined the communion of anglican churches. and integrated the the ideas of equal gender, and allowance of contraception. from the other nationalistic churches.
their a very fascinating church with their theology and history, with the fact that the founder of the church and as well as being part of the first government's congress.

In the book Jose Rizal, by Jose Baron Fernandez, it says Jose Rizal's true surname was not Rizal, but Mercado. Because of the accusation against the GomBurZa with the Cavite Mutiny of 1872, the surname Mercado was under suspicion, since Paciano, Jose's only brother, had contacts with one of the 3 priests, which is Burgos. The Mercado family kept the Rizal surname as the second name because the spaniards didn't allow to change Mercado to Rizal. To avoid suspicion, when Dr. Jose Rizal enrolls in Ateneo Municipal in Manila, directed by Jesuits, he used the second name "Rizal" as his surname.
Also, please make videos about the Thomasites and Andres Novales!

Actually secularization was the giving of the parishes to secular or diocesan clergy, rather than the religious orders such as the Augustinians, Dominicans, Franciscans, Jesuits, and Recollects. Fr. José Burgos continued the work of Fr. Pedro Pelaez who advocated for the handing over of parishes from religious orders to Filipino secular or diocesan priests. Burgos argued that the parishes of already established town should be given to Filipino clergies because the religious orders were supposed to be focused on missionary activities. His nationalism showed when he advocated for this transfer through examination or tests, the position of parish priests were to be given through tests. He argued that Filipinos often outdid their Spanish friar counterpart, but the Spanish friars were favored because they were Spaniards. In one of the articles Burgos wrote in response to a friar, who argued against Filipino parish priests because they bred revolutionary ideas, Burgos pointed out that revolutions often came from parishes run by Spanish friars rather than Filipinos seculars. Hence, Filipino parish priests were more loyal. Burgos rose in a high position within the archdiocese of Manila, he succeeded Pelaez who died in 1863. He, along with Frs. Gomez and Zamora, advocated for equality among the clergy when it came to parish appointments. This issue continued, it influenced the creation of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente and Fr. Gregorio Aglipay. This struggle is reflected in the portrayal of Padre Florentino in El Filibusterismo, compare it with Padre Salvi and Damaso.

This is very significant (the reason why they are in their Priestly Garments at the time of death) The Spanish Government demanded that they be defrocked but the Archbishop of Manila, Meliton Martinez refused. He even requested that the Church bells be tolled that day in protest.
