He is a Dátû and Lakan by blood, a direct descendant of the last indigenous Paramount Kings of Luzon (of both Lakandúlâ of Tondo and Rája Matandá of Maynílâ), and of the anti-colonial revolutionary Katipuneros who fought for the liberation of the Philippines from colonialism. Kirby's upbringing exposed him to the contradicting worlds of traditional politics and grassroots activism.

Kirby is also the Co-Founder of the Bulosan Center for Filipino Studies (UC Davis) and author of the book “Black Lives & Brown Freedom: Untold Histories of War, Solidarity, & Genocide.” He is a visiting professor at various colleges in the Philippines and a research fellow with Sínúpan Singsing, an institute for indigenous advocacy and the study of Kapampángan language, history, and culture.
    Dátû Kirby is an educator who is well-rooted in his culture and passionate about his heritage; he strives to decolonize Philippine history and democratize Ethnic Studies through knowledge and creativity.

    Question lang po
    Napansin ko lng sa mga ancient pilipino
    Wala pp ba tayong mga sinaunang tsinelas or sapatos?
    Kahit kahit datu at raja nka paa lng
    Meron din po kaya tayong sapatos o tsinelas noon?

  • @sweetgurl1040

    Question: Magkakapareho ba talaga ang language ng sinaunang SEAsians? Pano sila nagkakaintindihan? Kasi kung ngayon pagbabasihan, di ko sila maiintindihan. Or baka meron silang international language noon? Or meron dalang interpreter. TIA.

    • @KirbyAraullo
      @KirbyAraullo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mayroon silang tinatawag na "lingua franca" o common/international language na ginagamit sa pakikipagugnayan sa iba't ibang bansa. Noong mga 1500s ito ay ang Bahasa Melayu. May mga interpreter na din noong unang panahon pero mahalaga ding tandaan na likas sa ating mga ninuno ang pagiging polyglot o multi-lingual, lalo na yung mga kabilang sa royalty, nobility, at traders. Magkakaugnay at magkakamaganak din ang mga languages ng Southeast Asia kaya madali lang matuto ng ibang wika :)
      Actually fun fact, si Rajah Matanda ay may Spanish-speaking interpreter na noong 1521, ibig sabihin bago pa nasakop ng mga Kastila ang Maynila ay may Spanish-speakers na din sa Maynila.

      @@KirbyAraullo I see, so kung hindi tayo nasakop ng sinuman, malamang eto rin talaga ang laguange natin. Or baka iba ang bansa natin, or baka magkakaibang bansa ang buong Pilipinas.

      Di ka ba aware na kapag monarchy ang Pinas, ang caste mo ay mas mababa pa sa Indio(native Pinoy) dahil descendant ka ng chinese immigrant. You will be on the last priority kapag mag-aapply ka ng trabaho dahil sa caste mo. During pre-colonial era and even during Spanish era, mababa ang tingin ng mga Spaniard and Indios sa Chinese immigrant. Kaya nga yung tatay ni Rizal nag-asawa ng Spanish Filipina para hindi ganun kaSingkit ang itsura ni Rizal. One time nga nilatigo pa si Rizal dahil nakalimutan nya magBow sa Guwardiya Civil na dumaan(Ang mga Guwardiya Civil ay anak ng mga dugong bughaw kaya sila nakapagTrabaho sa gobyerno). Lower caste people are expected to perform courtesy sa mga dugong bughaw. Your caste is based on your father's patrilineal surname. Your option is either to change your surname to Japanese or Mongolian to hide your caste. If your surname Ang pinyin is 洪 it becomes Kō in Japanese, if your pinyin is 安 it becomes "Ando" in Japanese, if your pinyin is 翁 it becomes Okina in japanese. When Jose Rizal was in Japan, he didn't feel the caste discrimination because his actual surname Co柯 (Lamco) belongs to commoner caste there, not slaves caste.

    I have been thinking lately, baro at saya were philippine clothing that was fused with spanish style designs, what if the colonial spanish houses were not really precolonial house designs and Spaniards just claimed it theirs? I was curious about paoay church and the seawall that is ancient seen in manila bay.
