Adam, if you go into test flight and set your trim there, there's a key command to save your trim controls and they'll be auto-set upon entering any match. This works even for planes with no in-flight trim (i.e. the mechanic adjusts the fixed trim tabs on the control surfaces) EDIT: It's called Trimmers Fixation
Also if I may make a suggestion, it looks like you're constantly flying with right sideslip in the turn, due to the p-factor from the engine. If you have rudder pedals I'd suggest adding some left rudder while pulling and right rudder while pushing the stick.
@@AdamTheEnginerd Yes per plane, and this is essential for German planes as they don't have active Aleron trim, however, they have preset trim tabs on the wings so you should be good if it is set up right in test flight! Can you handle yourself in realistic battles? I have just tried playing with a stick, but keeping the situational awareness from within the cockpit without eye tracking and loosing control because of pulling too hard from time to time, was to much for me. In Sim it was easier, because everyone has the same struggles.
In RB, its just unfair. In SB, everyone is equally blind, equally confused, and equally vulnerable to spins and stalls. That's why it mostly comes down to the better man in SB, not necessarily the best meta
I honestly really wish Air RB were like this, where you're locked to cockpit view. That would make it much more satisfying and give Gaijin a reason to have nice cockpits...for _all_ planes. It would also let me use my HOTAS in something other than sim while still being accessible, just like how Star Wars Squadrons is.
Cockpit view with mouse aim is awful. You’d basically be forcing the entire playerbase to adopt sim controls. Well, I suppose some players could eventually work around the difficulty.
@@J7Handle That's not true, using mouse-aim would quite literally not be sim controls. I don't exactly like how mouse-aim is in cockpit view right now, but the only difference for the player would be the view, not the controls...unless they _chose_ to use sim controls like the mouse joystick or HOTAS. That would be the point of this: to make using sim controls a legitimate choice against mouse-aim users so they can play together with neither having a great advantage over the other, while still making the game accessible enough to draw in casual players who don't own or want to use HOTAS. This works pretty well in Star Wars Squadrons. As far as improvements to mouse-aim for cockpit view, it's quite shaky right now when you make smaller adjustments like when you're trying to aim. It would be nice if they added a slider in the options to provide some smoothness to that. Additionally, I would want them to widen the diameter that you can move your mouse around outside of freelook (so while the mouse is still controlling the aircraft). As it is, I find it pretty restrictive and think it slightly hampers the player's performance. Rather, it should be just like how it is in the third person view where you can look all the way behind you. This will make it so you can still maintain visual contact with your target while you're controlling the plane. With those improvements to mouse-aim, I think this all would work pretty well. You could also throw in some control to turn off auto-roll like you can for helicopters, but that's kind of another discussion.
@@AdamTheEnginerd yes its a pain looking for dots, but gradually, dot-hunting and even identifying becomes bearable. Yes you learn to recognize who's who from their tracers, movement patterns (BnZer? turnfighter? Bomber?), and eventually, from their shape. Ohh and watch out for The Hun in The Sun!
Small tip if you don’t know: if you hold the joystick in one hand and mouse in the other, you can use “mouse look” to see around. I also have buttons on my mouse assigned to “lean right”, “lean left”, and one button for head raise and head forward both. The head movement controls massively increase visibility in almost any plane. Only downside is you can’t do rudder maneuvers with your hand on the mouse, but I got around that using “mouse relative control”. Although to be honest, “mouse relative control” kinda feels like cheating. It’s kind of close to mouse aim if you set it up right (there are three different mouse y-axis inversion booleans in the controls menu, if you do them wrong then your camera or flight controls may be inverted).

Spitfires, if modeled correctly, should be almost impossible to fly with a desktop joystick. It has to do with the length of throw versus the deflection of the controls. The actual stick is like 30" long compared to maybe 7" for most desktop setups so without going into the settings to fine tune curves the spitfire was a rough choice here. Part of why a lot of people try one or two games of sim at low tiers with their favorite plane ( the spitfire 'becuz best dogfighter') barely manage to take off after the 5th try and then flop and flat spin in any time they try to turn and write off sim entirely forever

I'd argue that full real controls might have a bit of an advantage in maneuvering, because you can push it beyond the instructor's limits. However, it severely hinders aim.
Even if you don't exceed the instructor's limits, you benefit from pulling exactly the G force you want, and thus get the ablity to perfectly select your energy retention, while doing smooth coordinated turns that reduce drag. This is basically impossible to do smoothly in mouse aim, unless you spam the pitch down button while mouse aiming, which gives you a very crude approximation of that, and even then the turn is anything but coordinated.

Does the plane handle any differently in realistic game mode with full sim controls vs. how it handles in sim mode with full sim controls? Or is the only difference between sim and realistic the control types/automation and viewpoints allowed?
If you're using Full-Real Controls, I believe the only technical/control difference between SB and RB is the third-person view in RB. The technical performance of the aircraft is identical.
@@BleedingUranium using 'realisitic controls' (it goes mouse aim, simplified, realistic, full real) the only difference I can tell with realisitic and full real is that you dont have to trim the aircraft and you are not limited to cockipit view. I think Joe would have a better chance if he stuck to 1 circle fight since u are limited in the field of view and gives him more opportunity to fake. What are ur thoughts on this adam? am I right in this statement?
I disagree, he's better off staying out of a simple turnfight, it makes it easier for me to know where he is and control my plane appropriately (maybe turn a bit better with sim too).
I feel like something is off about War Thunder sim controls. The controls always seem jumpy and like you said it's really hard to keep guns on target. In DCS the warbirds are a lot easier to deal with. I don't think it's a flight model issue. Something about the way the stick input is being interpreted is weird. Maybe there's a delay? Also I just cannot get the force feedback function to do something reasonable. Instantly tanks my frame rate from 100+ to 3 or 4.
Fellow force feedback user here. Yeah, what is the problem with WT and Force Feedback? I use Microsoft Sidewinder FFB2, if I go to test flight with ground based aircraft, the fps tanks. No problem with carrier aircraft and sim game sessions though
Well the button trims the aircraft by how much you moved the stick, so if you were holding your aircraft in level flight and then you press the trim button, then you would be trimmed for that speed in level flight.
Anyone know of a community that can help with manual engine control? For some reason on some planes I get a massive horsepower decrease when I use MEC and I have no idea why. I can't find anything about it anywhere either.

Same here, though with a controller as I'm on console. I'm glad Pointer Aim exists because of how drastically it opens up WT's playerbase (the game probably wouldn't have made it anywhere near as far as it has without that accessibility) but personally I want to *actually fly* the plane myself.
@@BleedingUranium - I dont type without looking at the keyboard, so when I got interested in Warthunder I was pleased to see how customizable their controls were and bought an entry level ($50) Thrustmaster Hotas something or other and mapped the ground vehicle controls to it too. the throttle controls the forward and backward on the tank. The rocker (yaw) is steering. The joystick is all the turret controls. It's a slick set up. I love me some sim battles. That's real dogfighting not the point and click adventure of mouse aim
I suppose.
@@AdamTheEnginerd :)
yaaaaay adam is back
a very warm welcome adam
i have been playing simulator battles and it's a lot more rewarding than Air RB
in that case i didn't need the help of premuim account tho
since the simulator battles gives 4X rewards as the Realistic
also unlike Air RB spotting by eye is like fun for me
hey i am actually on discord
but i am shy to play with a top best player in the entire war thunder
Spotting dots is what doesn't entice me, but the rest does.
I wish you had flown the mustang with full real- it’s a fucking monster. The instructor pulls way too much aoa and runs it out of speed, with a stick you can control that
Oh really?
use a flight stick and use a trackIR for looking around or make a DIY one yourself, a whole new experience bro
Yeah I've done it with my phone in the past.
@@AdamTheEnginerd I've tried phone tracking at first it's just not as accurate as actual IR tracking, it also keeps drifting to the side and I'd have to keep recentering it, so I just built myself a headtracking setup for 20$ using a ps3 eye cam and a bunch of IR leds on a cardboard
adam stop beeing so good please its making me fell bad about myself
its a joke but fr how are you so good
Haha well practice. Though I don't think my sim skills are anything special.
At least Joe won in spirit.
He did well.
Good to have you back adam.
Good to be back!
The return of the king
:).
Finally! I've waited for your video
Yes I've been busy lately.
Man... And then there's me who struggle using sim control with only mouse n keyboard
Natural I imagine.
Ι see Adam , I click.
Thanks for the support!
@@AdamTheEnginerd you are welcome mate
Watch out. It looks like a church but has a hitbox of 10 story office building.
Haha classic.
Impressive flying as always! Maybe you can try to get an ace in RB with full real controls?
Thanks!
Maybe!
Ayyyyyy sweet vid guys. How was school Adam? U gonna start streaming again?
Thanks!
It was good. I feel like I work a bit harder in my Masters than my Bachelors, but might be just an impression. Thanks for asking!
Yeah I should stream from time to time this summer.
finally some a sim vid :D love it
:).
Haha i play in RB, but tried sim once i a Gladiator. had to ask in chat how to even get the engine started, died 3 times taking off. once airborne and managed to see an enemy plane i entered a flat spin of death :D
Haha nice. Yeah you need to be cautious with your controls in sim.
You heard my suggestion! Thanks!
My pleasure!
@@AdamTheEnginerd Hi Adam! I bought the F8F today.. some sugestion for its MEC?
No track IR? Do you use joystick to pan you head around then?
I think he is using the keyboard buttons, but im not sure
I think he's using his joystick hat and has massaged the control interface to approximate snap views. T hat's my guess anyway. Mine isnt as crisp as his
Yeah joystick.
I love this channel
Thanks for the support!
@@AdamTheEnginerd its just been so cool watching you, you make me smile every time you upload. :)
Should've taught Joe about rudder use
One thing at a time ;).
your content is amazing, you are extremely informative and i always learn something from your videos!
Happy to hear that!
is that a sign you're getting ready to move to *better games*?
I wouldn't take it like that.
Real ones saw it live.
Haha I see you're a man of culture as well.
"the only plane i got an ace in"
Yup. He got a few though.
@@BleedingUranium thanks
@@BleedingUranium using 'realisitic controls' (it goes mouse aim, simplified, realistic, full real) the only difference I can tell with realisitic and full real is that you dont have to trim the aircraft and you are not limited to cockipit view. I prefer fighting with the virtual cockpit / realistic controls with a hotas setup. better matches my own flying experience. It's great that the game has this much flexibility instead of trying to fit everyone in the same box
Yeah it's the same, except that there are markers.
What about making video with Spitfire Mk 24? Would be cool to see you fight against jets.
It's on my list!
Please do more! But next time, use the least maneuverable plane like the sunderland
Haha in sim? I wouldn't use Sunderland in mouse aim even...
@@AdamTheEnginerd well, an even better idea! Use the Ki-43 Ostu with 20mm or even the beaufighter! They are both hillarious
Reverse all the control axes and do it again. My test pilot friend does things like that when he's testing his skills. You're winning too easily lol
Lol oof that does not sound fun haha. It was relatively close, I won the Corsair duel and he won the Spitfire.
I think Joe would have a better chance if he stuck to 1 circle fight since u are limited in the field of view and gives him more opportunity to fake.
What are ur thoughts on this adam? am I right in this statement?
I disagree, he's better off staying out of a simple turnfight, it makes it easier for me to know where he is and control my plane appropriately (maybe turn a bit better with sim too).
how did you set up your buttons to look up .. left ... and right???
It's the hat on my joystick.
Some planes are WAY TOOOO UNSTABLE for most pilots in full real controls
Yup.
Good content as usual! now try Air SB with mouse control cam if you can :)
Why not use my joystick?
I think it's mainly related to the Spitfire. Corsair was really nice and stable compared to the Spitfire.
Welcome back!
Thanks!
@@AdamTheEnginerd Meybe you will come back with a J2M Raiden video
This is very interesting
I agree!
An itp m1 video would be well appreciated
I don't think I have it.
@@AdamTheEnginerd thanks for the reply
After playing DCS warthunder feels so bad now
Quite different games.
Also, I thought there an "auto trim" button that will set your trim for that speed?
Well the button trims the aircraft by how much you moved the stick, so if you were holding your aircraft in level flight and then you press the trim button, then you would be trimmed for that speed in level flight.
Anyone know of a community that can help with manual engine control? For some reason on some planes I get a massive horsepower decrease when I use MEC and I have no idea why. I can't find anything about it anywhere either.
My Discord. Check out my video on MEC though, with the rules of thumb in that video you should be set.
i have a steam guide on it
High AoA low speed gonna result in stall?
Yes. A wing stall occurs when the airflow over the wing is broken by aggressive aoa
Just too high AoA results in stall.
Aaaaaaaddddddddddddaaaaaaammmmmmmmm You're back!
btw, What are you doing with your Aerospace Engineering Degree?
Currently doing a Masters in Mechanical, finishing in 1 year at the latest.
@@AdamTheEnginerd so you are an aerospace engineer??
Yup.
I don't want to know what you do with your stick for joy!!! It's a control stick
Haha not where I'm from.
Impressive! Love it
Thanks!
If I am not wrong, the F4 maybe won because they can use the loop or even the energy advantage when you are doing a pass...I think if he don't make turns to close, maybe he would you hit you. Don't you?
Adam is this your first time trying sim plz do these videos more often btw I want to fight you in sim
It's not my first time, but I hardly play sim. I'm looking to get into it more this summer.
@@AdamTheEnginerd ok well can I play with you plz
Nice to see you back Adam, however are you going to post air rb later
And if yes play either the spit mk 24 or the yak 23
They are on my list!
It's nice that you are back! It's interesting to see that you started sim. It would be nice, though, if you don't leave air rb in the corner since your flying really helped me improve (although im only lev. 16).
I was wondering if you the p51d30 is bugged on your end when MEC is on,since when I have it on the plane doesn't want to get past 20kph. Perhaps I should change the settings a bit but idk.
Also good luck with school!
Sry i mean 200kph
That's likely an issue with your prop pitch. It's not bugged at all for me.
@@AdamTheEnginerd I just leave it to 50%
what's even wierder is that at first it's fine but then after a while the engine just loses a lot of power all of a sudden
Oh no, you gotta go near 100% prop pitch for sure.
@@AdamTheEnginerd uh aight, that seems a lot but sure...
Can you give me your MEC setting for the plane? As well as the optimal climb speed?
So is Joe in 3rd person then? If so, I'm guessing Adam won due to the limits of the plane being pushed with the sim controls, while also being able to put more fine tuned maneuvera compared to mouse.
He was. In a sustained turn maybe sim is better, but I would have won much faster if I were in mouse aim as well.
@@AdamTheEnginerd now I want to duel you in sim. I still have your discord.
I fly realistic controls (same as sim without having to manually trim the aircraft) and Hotas in realistic (ground and air RB). Tried the mouse aim thing, way too saccharine for me. I prefer to fly. Nice video and nice flying. You can pull more AoA but you can also stall. it's real flying
Im also an old hold over from Airwarrior (pre 2000's) and so flying with a joystick is a requirement, though Im glad the mouse instructor is there to make the skies full of targets. to your point, it really opens up the game to a lot of people.
Indeed it is.
hell yeah simulator chads rise up
Ye.
Cool! And what are these additional numbers on the left? I just don't have those.

I'm playing sim on ps4 controller without VR, track ir, joystick. And my KD is over 7.0. So If you have xbox or ps4 controller, you'll be a good sim player.
That's impressive.
@@AdamTheEnginerd you don't interested in sim?
I noticed that jet engines run rough at low to idle power, particularly those at the top of the tech tree. Does this impact performance somewhat or is it something to not be concerned about?
What do you mean by run rough?
@@AdamTheEnginerd the Rev meter fluctuates and in some jet aircraft, even the jet engine intakes would show that they’re running rough (buccaneer is a good example)
Also, my throttle hasn’t been moving the entire time and the engines are in pristine condition... otherwise I’d notice right away
@@DelinaSilence Oh that's interesting, I've never noticed. I rarely run engines at low RPM though.
Im playing warthunder siNce 2013 only on stick under real controls and cockpit on arcade.

Can't pull out wtrti info pannale at full screen are you using full screen windowed or you have another way to have it in full screen Adam?
Fullscreen window yeah.
Strange way to play sim, only using a bottom to look up.
A bottom? I hardly play sim, these were the default controls essentially.
What type of input are you using for rudder? Is it foot or finger based?
His joystick probably has a twist axis
Joystick twist.
As a console player the mouse aim is pretty useless especially in matches where everyoen but me is on pc, so I've had to resort to relative controls. And it takes so much longer to actually be able to fly well like that, especially without instructor and getting used to free look controls. But my god just the silent knowledge that every kill I get is worth infinitely more than the other guys and their self flying planes keeps me fueled for life. :)
